Hello!! I’ve (unofficially) put out the first three chapters of my book!! As a part of my BFA work, I made an illustrated novel of my own story Le Sang of New Orleans to go along with it. I figured out I love writing and this has been a dream to “finish” (it still has more work, but for now it’s finished lol)

LJ Benet and Ali Louis Bourzgui covered Total Eclipse of the Heart for Miscast nd I need to take a moment to cackle at this brilliant full-circle musical moment. Because that song was included in the vampire musical that started(? unless there was one before?) the American vampire musical curse - Dance of the Vampires, the Broadway version of the German musical Tanz der Vampire. The Broadway version sucked out everything that made the original a classic all for the sake of Michael Crawford's ego and his terrible Temu Mel Brooks comedy. Anyway, Total Eclipse of the Heart was originally written by songwriting legend Jim Steinman for a Nosferatu musical in the 70s (that never happened) and Jim reused it for Tanz der Vampire under the title 'Totale Finsternis'. And yes it was included in the Broadway version but the problem was that because the rest of the show was so "comedic" the audiences thought it was a joke until halfway through they were like "oh...oh this is serious?" - to the surprise of no one, the show closed pretty quickly and is still considered a punchline for all the wrong reasons.

And NOW the actors playing Michael and David in the very positively critically-received Lost Boys Musical have just done a cover of it. (Have a little scroll through the tag, you can find videos xx)

Do I think that nod to the past musical disaster was intentional? Probably not. Even without knowing that history, it is still an iconic 1980s power ballad so it was more likely because of that. But I am loving it either way.

I thought I’d share some of the test sketches I’m doing for TLB musical!! I’m trying to keep them inline with the costumes, but taking a few liberties with how they actually look (but I’ll probably make some art of the actors in their costumes later)

I love getting a hair shape down, so that’s what I’ve been working on the most. With Star, I sketched last night and I think needs a bit more to her (I’m still ideating on what). I love these sillies though!!!!

I’ve never shared process work on tumblr, but I’m hoping use my off time for finals week to get some more ideation done of them!! (Also if you can read my handwriting, the comments are so stupid and mostly for keeping track of what I like)

The other boys will be drawn (soon) (hopefully) but I’m focusing on these three for now!!

I saw The Lost Boys last night and I knew I was going to like it, but it was absolutely amazing, I’ve been obsessing over the official recording since they came out (and some not official recordings since last Friday). David lost boys Is literally the boy of all time, I am enamored by him. Fanart will be drawn of him, the boys, Star, and Michael this summer while I’m cooling down from college

My favorite thing to do while journaling is signing off with something silly. One night I was talking about wanting another fountain pen and I wrote “w/ money not in pocket”

There’s another one referring to a new story I’m working on (that’s basically fanfic) and it’s signed off as “w/ *ship name* nachos in the microwave”

I haven’t posted on here about my story really, but I’m writing/making art for my book *Le Sang of New Orleans* I’m doing this project both for myself and also as a project for my thesis project for college!!!

I’ll talk about it more at some point, but it’s along the lines of a literary vampire book. the blurb text is a less polished version of what I actually want on the back, but it’s the gist of what the story is. Also my MC (Christine) is the love of my life ❤️❤️
