a solo โ trigger warnings ahead.
There was never a time in Brynnโs life where she felt like she truly belonged anywhere. And while growing up in Portland, she grew up not knowing anything about her father, except his first name. โPiney Winston was his name.โ Her mother would always answer the same way, whenever she was asked anything about her past relationship regarding her father.
Brynn also has a half-brother, Opie. Her mother didnโt speak of her past, it was almost as if her mother was embarrassed about having Brynn as a daughter. Her mother never took her out anywhere, not to her company gatherings or family events. Brynn was by herselfโ 99.9% of the time.
With being by herself a vast majority of the time, she had to learn how to raise herself, and because she was different from the other kids, she was bullied throughout her school years, but it got worse in highschool. The people got meaner, more ruthless at making others miserable.ย
Needless to say, she fell into the wrong crowd; she started drinking heavily, and began to experience numerous amounts of drugsโ she became a troubled child for her mother . . . Not that she paid her daughterโs cries for help any mind.
After the night Brynn got arrested for drinking and driving, the minute she was released from prisonโ her mother finally had enough of her daughter bringing โhellโ to her family name. โYou want to know where your father lives?! Charming fucking California. Iโm sick of you constantly asking about that part of me, and Iโve had enough of the constant bullshit. I tried. Go be his problem.โ She yelled at Brynn one night after a heated argument between the two. Brynn felt every fiber in her being filled up with rage, and she packed up her belongings and never spoke to her mother again. She packed up her room which wasnโt a lot of things and made her way towards what would be her new home: Charming, California.
She was more nervous about heading to Charming than she had been about anything her entire life. Brynn stepped off the bus from Portland and on to the rocky ground beneath her feet. Charming. Her city of โSecond Chancesโ as sheโd call it.
Brynn knew that this had to happen, and that she needed to be here. Not only to get to know her father and half-brother, but for her own mental wellbeing as well.
Brynn had found an old card with Pineyโs phone number on it, and she put it in her phone when she arrived in Charming. It rang a few times, and when he picked up, her heart began racing out of her chest. โExcuse me,โ she said. โIโm looking for Mr. Piney Winston?โ He explained that this was who she was talking to, in fact Piney.ย
โIโm calling in regards to a Miss Janet Monroe, my name is Brynn Harlow Monroeโ Iโm the daughter of you and Janet.โ She said he nodded and wanted to meet her as soon as possible because he remembered Janet, and was more or less pissed off that she was kept locked away from them.
โIโve just recently gotten to Charming, where would you like me to meet you?โ She asked into her phoneโs speaker while she typed in an address. โIt looks like Iโm about fifteen minutes away, Iโll see you then. Bye!โ She said with a hopeful smile.
Brynn couldnโt ignore the fact that she had never experienced any form of love from a familial figure. She was about to meet, and connect with her real family for the first time in all of her twenty-eight years alive.
As she walked up the steps to Pineyโs home, she jumped when someone came out immediately to greet her. โYou must be Brynn,โ an older man smiled. โAnd you must be Piney, my father.โ She smiled softly as he pulled her into a hug. She stood there awkwardly, unsure of how to react to this new profound affection.
โItโs nice to finally meet you,โ Brynn smiled softly as he let her go out of the embrace. โAnd you as well.โ Piney said with a grin. Brynn was led inside Pineyโs home, and led to the spare bedroom which would serve purpose as her bedroom until she had enough money saved up to buy her own apartment.
While talking over coffee, Brynn asked Piney about the relationship that he had with her mother, and he explained the reason why they broke up, everything that happened between them, he explained it all and Brynn was not even the least surprised.
Piney asked Brynn if she did any form of drugs, and she answered him honestly. She told him about her drug problem, her arrest and her drunk driving charge. Piney explained that there would be no hard core drugs, weed and shrooms were okay but no heroin, cocaine, or anything harder than weed or shrooms. She agreed to his terms, understanding the reasoning behind it completely. Brynn knew that the drugs she had access to in Portland would be /much/ harder to get in Charming, so she decided to stop them completely: minus the occasional blunt and mushrooms.
Deep down in her heart, Brynn knew that leaving her toxic mother behind was the best thing for her, but she was nervous for the future.
