as an american the scariest part of horror podcasts from other countries is how often they call ambulances like i know there's a scary monster that injured you or something but you don't CALL AN AMBULANCE you'll be in debt FOREVER
Some practical advice for USA peeps: look into ambulance insurance. In some states/counties it's not available/allowed (illegal in Washington?!?) and in others you can bundle it with Life Flight insurance. In my area both of those (Ambulance and Life Flight) can be purchased separately.
The ambulance insurance is about ~$60 for the whole year, covers the *entire household*, and if you have a call-out (EMT's check on you & assist without actually transporting you) OR a full transport, anything that is not covered by your insurance is automatically ZEROED OUT. I will pay NOTHING for an ambulance ride.
My mom gets it for me as a Christmas gift each year (though the cycle is June to June so it's a gift in summer lol). Life would be very different for me right now if my hour-long ambulance transport from my rural town to the next big city over hadn't been covered. I get it as a gift for a friend who lives absolutely paycheck-to-paycheck with her husband and 2 small kids. Someone else in her family was stuck with huge payments for 10 years, and her immediate family has only one car. If her kids were hurt while the car wasn't available I didn't want her to ever have to even THINK about the cost if she needed to get help for them.
If you have this available to you, please look into it. I know our system is shit but you may have a fairly inexpensive way to protect yourself against it.
(also listen to more indie podcasts, they're awesome and you may hear my voice from time to time! Apparently I make a good "hardass but caring space/sea captain" lol)

H O W
I’ve had this sort of thing happen.
At least it explained why the package took so long to get here.
I appreciate that they have an Entire Stamp for “Missent to Nepal”
No one said “hey let’s stop missending things to Nepal” they just said “let’s make a stamp for this” and called it a day.
I’m gonna get Missent to Guam tattooed on my arm in commemoration.

Get Moist von Lipwig in charge of the US postal service ASAP
Ok I know this is super old now but I work at a post office and I was curious about the price so I did some digging and I still don’t have a definite answer because THE REASON it says “no shipping services available” is because all shipping services were actually suspended to Guam at the time. As in no packages, parcels, letters, or mail or any kind could be sent to Guam. So not only is it mind boggling that it got sent so far in the wrong direction of its intended destination, but because nothing should have been able to get in to Guam period.
You QUITE LITERALLY could not have sent these cookies to Guam if you tried.
Wait wait wait I had this SAME THING happen to me in the last year!!! Package I ordered took absolutely forever and for some bizzare reason had a pit stop in Guam!!!
What the hell!!
A magical forest in MY fantasy show? Say it ain’t so! https://crowdfundr.com/FallenMemories
I crocheted a series of hyperbolic planes and strung them up into a garland. Each module is one more round than the one before, and each round has twice the stitches as the round before.
I made eight iterations; the largest one took an entire skein of cotton yarn. I really liked how this shows the change in curvature as cross section of the plane expands.
...and this is why we should have things like crochet and knitting in schools!
Happy Pride!
Every pride, you must reblog this. No exceptions
I love that four different people on my feed scheduled this joyous person to reblog by 8am on June 1. I look forward to seeing this a dozen more times today.
When my mother forgets a word, she is the queen of coming up with new words. Words that would take a third National Treasure movie to fully decipher. I was talking to her yesterday, and she said this: “You know the time for los jibbities is coming up. You must be so excited!” Oh, is it time for los jibbities already? I must have missed it on my calendar. Are we celebrating something? “Of course! We should all be celebrating, shouldn’t we?” OK, so los jibbities is a happy thing. It’s not like something is giving you the heebie-jeebies, which would have been my one and only guess. “Los heebie-jeebies? Now you’re making things up...and this is my show.” You’re right. The time for los jibbities is coming up. Is this a season? “Yes, the season for love. The season for pride.” OK, los jibbities. “Yeah, sound it out.” Los…jibbities. LGBTs! “Sí, mira cuz you’re gay!” “You couldn’t just say pride season? You couldn’t just… *laughs*
HAPPY LOS JIBBITIES EVERYBODY!!!
The time for Los Jibbities has arrived!

If Sam Reich teamed teamed up with Misha Collins to run a new Gish... I think we'd all explode somehow. Or cure all the ills of the world with duct tape, maple syrup and Kansas covers. Or both. Both is possible.
"The beast screamed inside Vimes. It screamed that no one would blame him for doing the hangman out of ten dollars and a free breakfast. Yeah, and you could say a swift stab now was the merciful solution, because every hangman knew you could go the easy way or the hard way and there wasn't one in the country that'd let something like Carcer go the easy way. The gods knew the man deserved it…
…but young Sam was watching him, across thirty years.
When we break down, it all breaks down. That's just how it works. You can bend it, and if you make it hot enough you can bend it in a circle, but you can't break it. When you break it, it all breaks down until there's nothing unbroken. It starts here and now.
He lowered the sword."

Twice was a coincidence. Three times is a pattern...
The first time I heard this insane loud buzzing in the warehouse area of work. Looked up and spotted a hummingbird who was desperately trying to get out of the skylight. I left it some sugar water in the hopes of luring it down and out the bay doors, and a while later walked through and heard nothing.
But then I looked down and found this tiny little body on the floor.
I took him outside with the sugar water. Sat in the sun with him for a good forty minutes, putting little drips of food against it's beak. Eventually his beak moved a little, then his tongue was slowly flickering, then he was lapping up nectar in earnest. Eventually he flew away into a nearby shrub and I left the rest of the nectar out for him.
Then it was the kingfisher adventure. Same warehouse, new bird. Heard him flapping about and realize pretty quickly it wasn't a sparrow. Called a friend who is an avid birder and wildlife worker, confirmed the species. Ended up calling out the maintenance guys, who showed up with a scissor lift and went on the roof and duct taped tarps over the skylights to block out the light and help it find its way out the bay doors again. I was playing kingfisher noises outside to try to encourage it that way. He eventually found his way out.
And now it's the silly little dingbat sandpiper-adjacent shorebird who has decided to plop four eggs in the middle of a lawn beside one of the buildings - a lawn people routinely walk across and run their dogs on for exercise during lunch. Spotted momma doing the classic "ooh I'm a helpless bird chase me!" routine and immediately groked she was trying to lead me away, spotted the nest, panicked and emailed the same maintenance guys and birder friend. Today I was out there with an armful of plywood signs on stakes the maintenance dudes made for me, marking out a wide perimeter and hoping to shit the email I sent out campus wide reaches the dog peeps.
Why am I the Person Who Finds Birds In Peril At Work? Why has that become my Thing? 😂 A couple of years ago I was The Person Who Rescues Garter Snakes From The Building, now this!
Ooh! I totally forgot about the damn chickadee who decided to just hop through the barely open window of my *office* and then freak out when it couldn't get out again! I had to eventually let that one come to rest on a box lid and veeeeeeey slowly move it back to the open window to get it back out. I have a butterfly net in my office now! Though it probably wouldn't help if the friendly neighborhood ground squirrel decided she wanted to come in for a visit, too... That's why my window now has a wire so it can only open a little narrower than a squirrel's head.
Oh and I completely forgot about the FIRST time I rescued a hummingbird from a friend's garage...
Jeez what is my life.
Lemme tell you, SCA events with bunches of men who look like this - blacksmiths and knights and shirtless dudes in kilts - it's a very nice place to be 😁
My love to the gals in armor too - some of whom are tiny (and absolutely *deadly* on the field, I heard of one gal who literally charged her opponent roaring and then RAN UP HIS BODY to head shot him and then launched off his shoulders as he went over backwards like a freaking badass holy shit) but those absolutely built lady knights who could probably hammer throw an average human? Yes please. 😍
I've always loved this about cats!
However, I worked at an assisted living place once, and there was one lady who liked her linens changed while she was out volunteering at a school - and she had a sweet little loopy cat.
As much as I would have LOVED to play with the kitty as I changed the sheets, I was also always on a time crunch because they were criminally understaffed in a literal way and I was always working alone and so needed to hustle but that's another story and so I needed to work quickly.
I discovered the easiest and most fun way for both of us was to take the sheet I'd just pulled off the bed and unfurl it over the floor. The little kitty would dash under it like a kid on parachute day in gym and the sheet would settle down over her. She'd dart about like a lump under the sheet happy and purring and i'd have the bed free and clear to make up quick. 😸
Holy cow I’ve never been so locked. I’ve taken tests worth 50% of my grade for less

The story, the fanart, the fan theories, the headcannons...
Since it's constantly rattling around in my head, tonight as i'm cooking my dinner i'm thinking, yeah, Grace has statues back on earth. Of course he does, he saved our world.
And Rocky does too.
Of course Rocky has statues on earth. How could they not? Some standing with Grace, some of their own... Of course they do. Because the videos are out there. I'm betting everything that the fact that Grace was an "unwilling" savior is kept well and truly under wraps. That isn't allowed to break containment. But why wouldn't all that time in a coma mess with your memory? Of course the videos we saw would have him learning what happened, figuring things out.
And we know, we KNOW, what being out there on the edge of everything alone can do to a person. The other astronauts were dead. Grace had no one. He was more alone than any human has ever been. And what were the chances he could have ever accomplished all that he did on his own?
Rocky fucking saved us. They made the chain and the collection module. They made the containers to breed the Taumeoba. And they kept Grace ALIVE. Not just when the ship nearly came apart and he was injured, but every day. Talking. Bouncing ideas off each other. Keeping Grace's brain active! We know what being out there on the edge alone can do. What it must have already been doing to Rocky, stuck by themselves for DECADES.
Rocky has statues. We'd need them desperately. Look at what humanity had just come through! Decades of so much death and not knowing if it was coming for all of us or not. So much anger and struggle and war, and you know we're not coming out of that with a sense of global togetherness. Hell no.
We'd NEED those statues. We'd need to see those two incomprehensibly different beings up there who had overcome language, culture, danger, the fact that our very air was deadly to each other - and despite all that had saved us. Saved each other.
And look at us here, in the real world, obsessively studying screenshots to make our drawings and our plushies and our own wee custom puppets as absolutely right as possible. You think we as a people would be any less gloriously neurotic about getting the details right for a statue of our rescuer? Those statues would have every tattoo and detail humanly possible to portray.
A Rocky as real as possible, who is able to stand in our air and feel the breeze in safety.
And on the plaques, the history of who these two were - metal formed into raised letters that is readable by both human and Eridian. Not just the words in English or Japanese or Swahili. But the best translation we can manage of spoken Eridian too, transcribed into musical notation. And generations of people who can sight read would stand there and try to hum or whistle those words, and wonder if they could, in some small way, be understood by the figure they stood in front of if they were really there.
Maybe the statue itself was made in such a way that when the wind blew just right, it whistled back.
And yeah, i just about broke down crying and may have overcooked a quesadilla just thinking about it.
