Toy Collecting with BAPE
By Jauretsi
BAPE founder Nigo is a big fan of apes. His penchant for primates began with naming his company off the 1968 film, Planet of the Apes. The name is a reference to the phrase “A Bathing Ape In Lukewarm Water.” Since choosing that title, Nigo has built one of the hippest global empires, with a career that includes a stint as co-owner and head designer of Pharrell Williams’ clothing brands Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream. In short, BAPE products are the types of things cool kids wait in line around the block for — be it in Japan or New York.
The Bearbrick 3-piece BAPE set (pictured above) starts bidding at approximately $93. A slew of other BAPE gems — from hoodies to pillows — are floating on eBay as well, all ready to be gifted this holiday season. To check out the latest products and news, visit the US BAPE site so you don’t miss a beat.
