A portal to Limbo opened, swirling and ominous.
“Well,” Amanti said with a smile, “that was fun while it lasted! I absolutely loved all of it.”
“Yeah…” Rella replied softly. “It was.”
“…You okay? You’ve been pretty quiet this whole time we’ve been here.”
“No. I’m not okay. I’m not going back there.”
“I’M NOT GOING BACK THERE, AMANTI!” she snapped, her voice cracking. “This whole experience—it showed me we don’t belong there!”
“But—what about our friends? Our family?! You’re just gonna leave them-?”
“DON’T SAY IT LIKE THAT.” Rella shouted, tears burning at the corners of her eyes. “You think I want to leave them? I love every one of them. Spirit… she’s like a sister to me!”
“But I can’t go back. And… I don’t want you to either. This is the happiest I’ve ever seen you.”
“So you’re making me choose between them and you?!”
She looked away, her back now to him. Her voice barely a whisper.
She clenched her fists to the point her claws drew blood.
The silence that followed was unbearable.
‘Please say something. Anything. Just… answer.’
“I guess… this is goodbye, then.”
The words hit like a knife.
It hurt more than either of them expected.
Her voice trembled, breaking apart at the seams. She still couldn’t bring herself to look at him.
“C-can you t-tell Ch-Char s-something for me…?”
Amanti didn’t respond—but she knew.
“A-and… you know I l… love you, right…?”
He stepped through the portal.
For the first time in their lives, they were completely apart.
And deep down, she feared she might never see him again.
That thought terrified her.
She dropped to the floor and just let the tears flow.
She would never see her brother again and it was her fault.
