no bc it pisses me off because i know shannon won’t deal with this properly. like yes, YES, keefe is really insecure. it makes sense, with his upbringing. and even if everyone says that they hate that fitz and keefe’s friendship got ruined, babes that was meant to happen. if it wasn’t sophie it would be the silent resentment that keefe was growing.

it would make so much sense that keefe unconsciously painted fitz as this angry guy, because that’s the only clear bad ‘trait’ that he’s ever actually recognized on his bestfriend. we know how first book fitz was pictured. we know keefe and fitz didn’t have anyone really till the other, and yes, because the vackers were a much more stable family, the escape that that place gives him makes him resent his best friend. he’s an immature 15 year old boy who projects vicariously. it’s not even about fitz. we see it through him and tam’s dynamic. he’s sooo scared of losing his ‘place’ that he is not even interested in actually knowing the guy. tam is not like fitz, but also not like dex, who never gets that treatment because deep down Keefe is NOT jealous of him. He doesn’t see him as someone he’d rather be.

so yes, i believe he would rather act like that when he has this feelings for a girl for the first time and knows deep down that he’s competing with his best friend, who she has liked since the beginning. keefe doesn’t want to accept his flaws because that would mean accepting he deep down doesn’t deserve foster. he’s an empath, sure, but he lacks rational thinking. that’s why he acts that way in unraveled, where we can see two clear things:

1– his attachment to sophie is NOT healthy.

2– his insecurities make him find alvar relatable. and suddenly it doesn’t matter how much that guy has traumatized the girl he’s supposedly so in love with.

if shannon actually finished this series acknowledging the nuances of her characters, all of this would be good writing. and god i hope i’m wrong, but it most definitely won’t end like that.

I actually do really like Sophitz where the relationship label is neither friends nor dating but "Cognates." It almost feels cheapening to put their relationship to romantic dating tropes when it's about trusting each other with their entire selves—every memory they've ever had! People love to poke fun at Fitz for putting so much importance on the idea of Cognates, but it's clearly an enormous deal, and the fact that they could have that bond makes their relationship arguably the most important in the series. Imagine how much power they could unlock together to defeat the Neverseen with that bond! "But we're Cognates!" Not boyfriend and girlfriend, and not exactly friends either, always. Cognates.
