Why I’m not playing MCLUL anymore, and why you should too.
So, recently, I’ve decided to stop playing MCLUL. I have many reasons for this, and here they are:
1. Beemoov is run by 5 year olds with no sense of business.
Remember when Beemoov responded to well-formated complaints with a crying emoji? Remember when they told us they would look into changing the system and not only did nothing, but didn’t tell us about it until very recently? Dude, I acted like that when I was 12. The people at this company don’t know how to take criticism, and they definitely aren’t close to learning at all.
2. The AP system is VERY BADLY USED
On MCLHL, the new system is bearable.. Not great at all, but bearable at best. On MCLUL, the new system is UNPLAYABLE. Our character keeps on rambling about if she left the stove on and how it reminds her of high school for a week worth of AP! It’s super annoying, it gets you out of the action and it’s useless! If you think that could change, please refer to point 1 and think again.
3. Earning less than [insert badly paid job or a person of disciminated race here]
5$ a day, really!? To put you in perspective, working for one hour a day with minimum wage in Canada would get you 12$, aka TWICE THE AMOUNT YOU MAKE ON MCLUL. Plus, if like me you’ve made a new account to re-play the real MCL, you’ll have noticed that they ask you to buy stuff all. the. time. And, to be honest, it’s unbearable!
4. The writers weren’t fair with Lysander’s faith.
Unlike real life, they could have written whatever they want. How is it that Kentin got to have a good ending but Lysander got worst ending 10/10 would never read again? Here’s my tip: Either you give everyone good endings, or you give NO ONE good endings. It’s not fair for the players and you should know that.
But what can we do about this, then?
You can sign this petition that could possibly change the way beemoov thinks! We can’t garantee anything, but at least we can try as a group. If you want to know more about the people who have made this petition, you can go here.
Anyway, all of this is why I will not be touching MCLUL anymore. Not until beemoov grows up a little.
My Candy Love Campus Life - How one could save the AP system(Yes, it’s possible)
I see a lot of people saying the new AP system is a disaster, that it should never have existed. But I don’t agree with that. It’s badly executed, yes, but not the worst idea if applied well. The real problem is that the dialogues are way too long and they don’t matter AT ALL.
Let’s look at the differences between the new and the old AP system.
NEW: Allows more room for important things to be done if applied well. Disallows the player from being in the mood of the story if applied wrong.
OLD: Allows more room for non-stop dialogue. If used wrong, can be very tedious, because characters are hard to find.
Let’s look at another game; one that I don’t like, but whose system works well. Anticlove. In the original, it’s a movement based system, like old MCL, but there is a screen that tells you where you need to go in order to find the characters, so you don’t have to search for them for months. The problem is, the story is really badly written, so that just ruins the whole experience.
Now, MCLUL is not the first game to have used dialogue-based systems before. Tictales, another otome game company, uses this as well. The real problem with paying per click is that it breaks the flow of the story. Imagine a character is about to DIE and you run out of AP, what do you do, then? You come back the next day, completely out of it, and you watch them die again. One has to write very well in order for this to work. Unfortunately, the team at Beemoov doesn’t.
The main problem with MCLUL’s writing style is that it’s WAY TOO LONG. When Candy wants to do things like enter her dorm room, she goes on like this: “oh no. i have to go in my dorm. how tragic. i don’t like the girl. i don’t want to see her. maybe she won’t be in there? i don’t know. i can’t stand here forever. i need to go in. but i don’t want to! did i leave the stove on? oh wait. I don’t have a stove. ha ha! i go in my dorm.” and that’s a full day of AP you just spent on absolutely nothing!! Instead, they could do this: “I unexitedly go to my dorm.” IT’S THAT SIMPLE, SO HARD TO DO!!
TLDR: The system is not wrong, the team just needs to shut Candy up a bit.
But yeah, in my opinion, both can be applied well, though the movement based system is way less risky, and much more fun when you can code fine.
Why Nathaniel’s party addiction makes sense
As you may know if you’ve played the beta of MCLUL, you’ll know that Nathaniel has stopped studying and, instead, just goes to parties. It came as a surprise for everyone... Or did it?
Let me give you a situation first: If you forbade you child of eating sugar for all of their childhood, and they left the house after high school to then discover the magic of sugar, what do you think would happen? They would probably LOVE it, so much in fact that they might develop an addiction. And because you never taught them how to eat it responsibly, they won’t stop.
Now, this doesn’t just apply to sugar, as you may have guessed, it also applies to a lot of things. Generally, these things are called self destructive habits: When you watch your child too closely and, by consequent, forbid them of making mistakes, they do not learn. So what happens when they get released into the wild? They discover things, they forget to do other things.
Self destrcutive habits not only include things life self-harm, but also things like alcohol addiction, drug addiction, sleeping too much or too little, eating too much or too little, not taking showers... You name it: If it destroys you in some way, it’s self destructive.
And, to come back to Nathaniel here, what did his father do to him? He beat him. This is a form of abuse(obviously), and it, too, leads to self destruction. Nath was never able to live his life fully and do what he wanted until he got into university. He saw all of that sweet, sweet sugar and decided to only consume that, and do nothing else.
Hence, this is probably the reason why Nath stopped studying. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
MCLUL Beta Review & Other Things - An Essay
Okay, let’s make this brief:
The Good Stuff
The art is really good! It looks really great, the colors are good, and the designs are very well made. I personally prefer these to the MCL ones.
The new personalisation options: I like them, even if I didn’t like the obligated long hair at first, but then I remembered I didn’t care because CGs are impossible to get, so it’s all good.
The new candy base! It’s much more realistic than the first one, and I’m already having fun drawing clothes for it!
The graphics in general are really, really good; that’s the one thing they did right here.
And the game is a lot more realistic than the first, which is good.
The Bad Stuff
CGs are absolutely impossible to get; I’ve played the first episode 3 times, and I got CGs only when I found a guide. That’s when you know you’re not writing your thing right. There’s just too many things to click right! And there’s no way to know what’s important, either.
The boys are gone, and that’s making everyone mad. Either you keep them all, or you keep none of them. Plus, giving some of them bad endings is, though realistic, unfair to the players.
Candy is asshole 5000, like, I get that she had to leave her city, but did she have to contact nobody? Like, she didn’t even know what happened to her own boyfriend! Rude, much?
The limit of a 1000 AP will be very limiting, since I can’t pay money for this game. With this logic, you can only save up for less than two months before not being able to get more. That’s ridiculous!
What I would have done differently
Of course, I don’t consider myself better than anyone who worked on this game, but I do know what I like, since I’ve played my fair share of otome games.
I would have done one last episode on MCL to explain Candy’s faith before going for a 4 year gap.
I would have left out every boy, so I would have scratched Castiel, too. Bringing back dudes who you couldn’t date before(Dajan, Jade...) would have been a much better idea, since they were not available before.
Otherwise, I would have kept them all, but different. I know a lot of you are pissed you can’t get your farm boy, so perhaps scratching the realism COULD have worked. Perhaps, by some kind of coincidence, all of the boys are going to the same uni, or hanging out near it.
And now, you might tell me: “If you think you know so much, why don’t you make your own?” Honey, I wish I could. If anyone has experience in business, please contact me
Honestly, I’m not even mad.
After all, it’s not the first time that beemoov makes a decision that we don’t like. Every time, we hate it, we threaten to leave, but we always come back.
What I just really don’t like is Beemoov’s lack of response. They fucked up, and they know it. And yet, they just sit there and say nothing. I would have liked to see an apology; an explanation. Even if most of you would not have liked it.
Personally, when I first saw the dateables, I clicked to none of them. But what do you do when you like none of the characters? Build a character that will like one of them. Build them to fit the story imposed to you. It’s the same as having a rather uninspiring assignment; work. around. it.
It’s what I do every time a new otome game comes out: I want to test it, and I work around it to get the best experience possible. I think that’s what Chino would like for us to do: to try her game before screaming. If you don’t like it after that, then you are free to leave.
TLDR: Beemoov should have responded, and you guys should try the game before screaming the death of your life.
Hey kids of the MCL fandom, here’s a better and more fun way to cope with deception: Work around it.
None of my characters for MCL quite fit with MCLU, so I made a new girl: Catheline.
She used to be with Lysander, but they lost touch and now she does not want to think about farm boys. She’s fine. Don’t ask about it. She’s fine, she’s fi-
Well, moving out of the city really changed her: She used to be a cute, flowery girl who liked poems and such, and now she’s a glittery edgy asshat who likes medieval art.
Likes: Weird medieval babies and animals, glitter, fancy things
Dislikes: Farm boys(She’s fi-), loud parties, fireworks(but, like, on a fear level)

Dear My Candy Love Fandom: You will never cease to dissapoint me.
Seriously; the team is really excited about their new project, and they want to give you a really cool event, and YOU come here, and you wine because you won’t have your new clothes in the new game... Seriously!?
Let me recapitulate this for you: The model for MCLU is different, so they can’t draw all of your precious clothes, or else there will never be a new game. Also, they allow you to buy clothes so you can keep customizing your high school candy, BECAUSE IT WON’T DIE WHEN YOU GO TO MCLU it will keep being there to make replays and new accounts! i’m saying that because some of you seem to think that MCL is going to decease as soon as the new one is out
Sorry, that was harsh, but some of you really are particular in your ways of respecting the team...
Otherwise, I’m very proud of the team, and I think MCLU is going to be great
