Update on New Spider-Man BND Fanfic!!

can you tell I tried to make the title Spider-Man themed?? (╥⁠﹏⁠╥)

I'm starting to write a new Spider-Man fic, in a series with my fic 'What The Fall Couldn't Take' about Jean Grey and Peter Parker being siblings, where Jean recognizes the shape of Peter's darkest year (set after BND, thus MJ's rejection) because she's survived her own. Here's what I have so far:

"Jean Grey had promised herself, a long time ago, that she would not read Peter Parker's mind without asking.

It was a hard promise to keep. Most people's minds arrived at her like weather, unavoidable, a pressure system she had to actively wall herself off from rather than something she had to reach for. Peter's mind was louder than most, not in volume exactly, but in texture. It had a static quality, a low, constant hum underneath the surface thoughts, like a radio tuned between two stations. She had noticed it the first time they'd worked together, back during the DODC business, and she had noticed it every time since, and she had never once let herself listen closely enough to find out what the static actually said.

She noticed it again on a Tuesday in September, in a briefing room that smelled like burnt coffee, while Peter sat two seats down from her nodding along to a mission report he clearly was not absorbing, and the static under his thoughts spiked, just for a second, into something sharper. Something with an edge on it.

She didn't read it. She promised herself that, again, silently, the way she always did."

I would love feedback if you're willing to give!! I'm at a little bit of a roadblock, I know what I want to write in theory, but actually writing it is giving me a headache 😞😞 I really want to make their sibling relationship shine through
