He sighed in small relief at her words, glad to be home, to be together, and even more glad that he hadn’t pulled her away from something she’d wanted to stay at. And being as this particular event was smack in the middle of two full moons he had no good excuse not to go - not that he ever told her no if he could help it. But still, it was for her happiness, not his own, and he felt the rest of the tension leave his shoulders as she helped him.
Shawn’s eyes snapped back up to hers as she continued, suddenly worried. Had he spoken too soon? Had she wished he would have stayed longer with her? He hated the idea that she may be disappointed and it be his fault, even if indirectly. But this was easily fixable, wasn’t it? “Oh yeah?” He murmured, pointing his wand quickly at the Wizarding wireless and hoping for an acceptable song - which for once, the universe obliged. “I think there’s still a little time left tonight.” Shawn smiled softly at her as he opened his arms in invitation and took a step closer.
A smile stretched across Julia’s face as she moved closer, letting his arms around her. “I’ve always liked this song.” She hummed along for the first few notes as they swayed together to the rhyme. She closed her eyes, drinking in the feel of him, so close and so strong. She rested her head on his shoulder, feeling perfectly happy and content.
The moment soon came to end with the song, however, and Julia sighed regretfully as she opened her eyes. She didn’t pull away right away, though, and just stood there for a moment longer. “It’s getting late,” she said softly. “I should go.” Little did she realize that the light snow fall had started to turn into a blizzard.
He felt his smile grow wider as she stepped into his arms - something he couldn’t seem to keep at bay like he once used to. It was a smile reserved only for her, even if she couldn’t see it - a smile only she had ever been able to pull from him. Shawn’s eyes flitted closed with a contented sigh, listening to the soft sound of her humming and letting it relax him.
His arms tightened reflexively around her as the song ended, almost as if he were still afraid to lose her after all this time. After all, how could you fully trust something that was far too good to be true? But she didn’t back away yet, either, and he turned his head to kiss her cheek. He looked up then at the same time she did, his eyebrows furrowing as his arms loosened a bit. “Uh, yeah, about that....” Shawn started, meeting her gaze and letting the rest of the sentence go unfinished as he saw she’d noticed the snow, too.
