"Short" lore summary below!
Act 1
Bliss hails from Easthaven, one of the Ten Towns of Icewind Dale, born into a family of Tempus’s faithful, known for their valor as captains of the town guard.
Once a bright and eager child, she grew under the watchful eyes of her parents and the god of war himself. But a prophecy spoken by an oracle shattered their peace, a warning so dire that her mother began to shelter her from the world. The more they tried to protect her, the more fiercely she rebelled.
When monstrous forces began descending from the frozen north, her parents led an expedition into the mountains. Forbidden to join, Bliss followed in secret. There, among blinding snow and the ruins of a hidden temple, her attempt to help went horribly wrong. A single arrow, a stray spark, and the mountain itself came down upon them.
Bliss survived. Alone beneath the rubble, trapped for weeks in the temple of the Dread Lord. Starved, she did what she must to live. When He finally spoke, through a figure cloaked in crimson, Sceleritas Fel, she accepted His offer.
And so, in the silence of the storm, Bliss was reborn.
Act 2
Guided by Sceleritas, Bliss was sent east, to the lands of Wa, to find a being who owed the Lord of Murder a great debt. She found Vorshazynth, the Ebon Bloom: a dead dragon spirit bound to a sword, cruel and elegant, who took her in as a student.
Under Vorshazynth’s cold tutelage, Bliss was forged into something sharp and unfeeling, training in solitude atop a secluded hill. For two years, her world was nothing but blood, steel, and silence, until she met Khayri, a charming street thief with a dream of saving the slums. Against all odds, Bliss found warmth again. She quickly made friends with the local orphans who are also in a group with Khayri.
But their peace was fleeting. Khayri revealed that there's a relic shard that said to be able to power a forge forever. He had plans to make use of that to make the slums a better place. However, the “Cindershard” Khayri treasured was the very relic Vorshazynth sought. When he refused to give it up, Bliss was forced to reveal part of her secret that she was bound to a master who would kill her for failure. Khayri relented, giving up the shard, but his curiosity doomed them both.
He followed Bliss home that night and discovered the truth. Vorshazynth caught him and demanded Bliss prove her loyalty. When Bliss refused to kill him, something inside her snapped. The Dark Urge awoke. Her body moved against her will, and she slaughtered Khayri with her own hands.
What followed was carnage. As a punishment for trying to run away from it all, The Urge drove her to the orphans in their hideout, to the only friends she had left, and made her butcher them all. When she awoke, Bliss was broken. Sceleritas came then, whispering and further tearing her down; that violence was her nature, that only through murder would she ever find peace.
For five years, she trained beneath Vorshazynth’s hand and Bhaal’s eye, honed into a weapon worthy of a god. But in the end, her “master” betrayed her purpose: Vorshazynth sought to possess her body as a vessel to live again. Turns out, Bhaal had a deal with Vorshazynth; find a vessel for her, and she, in return, will aid Him.
Bhaal backtracks on the deal and intervened. He offered Bliss His Slayer form, and with it, she cut down the dragon spirit that made her. Her soul drank in Vorshazynth’s power, and her god named her His Chosen.
For years, she roamed the eastern lands as a mercenary, leading warbands and leaving crimson trails across the battlefields in His name. They called her the Butcher of the East.
Then, one night, the whispers began again, the Lord calling her home. To Baldur’s Gate.
