Walking in Christ Church Meadows
âI must confess I thought Iâd have the place to myself this early,â
âWhat can I say? I like an early morning walk in the autumn as clichĂŠ as that may make me out to be.â
@ The Barrel Pub garden
"Ah," Rupert paused on coming back out of the pub into it's garden and finding his table taken. "I appear to have made a mistake in going to get another drink," he commented to the person sat at the table he'd stopped next to. "Do I bother going to retrieve my have eaten packet of crisps do you think?"
"Beat you to the punch with that actually," Charlotte admitted, nodding to the packet of crisps that she'd gone over to retrieve upon seeing the table get taken up. "Figured you might still want them."
âI donât know how you put up with them,â she joked in return. In truth she had absolutely nothing against any of them. Her head snapped round from the book she was shelving. A slight smile tugged at her lips as she refocused on her task, âThereâs nothing to tell,â
"Well, they do have that convenient bias of being blood relations, not to mention that I do actually love them even in their moments of boyishness." Charlotte caught the smile on Desi's face, and it only made her own bud all the further into a grin. "You're an awful liar, you know that?"
âI didnât say no, did I?â
"No," a slight smile tugged at the corner of his lips, "I suppose you didn't," he added,
âThe real question is⌠was that offer serious?â
âI didnât say no, did I?â
"Good, because I am in desperate need of a girls night out,"
âMe too. My brothers have been achingly testosterone-filled lately,â she joked. âAnd that means you can tell me all about the fae you were eyeing up at the party the other night.â
âI didnât say no, did I?â
"I should hope not, you're way too gorgeous for that,"
âAnd you are too kind, as usual. I could hardly resist the offer.â
âI didnât say no, did I?â
âWell⌠the temptation is real. But I donât know how many more of Magnusâ feathers I should ruffle. Iâm already on the couch.â
âIâm not saying I recommend it either. But it is a big gamble where Magnus is concerned. Heâd probably make you move out to the swamp with Thaddeus for any more property damage.â
âI didnât say no, did I?â
Dante purred softly, leaning in just close enough to brush his nose over hers. âDidnât your Daddy ever teach you to not trust strange vampires? I could simply drain you dry and leave you in a gutter somewhere.â
Charlotte didnât move back at all, but didnât really move forward either. The action and words from the vampire did little more than make her blink. âMy dad allowed me to make my own judgements towards all those things that go bump in the night,â she replied plainly. âThat being said, Iâd recommend refraining from attempting that.â
âI didnât say no, did I?â
âWell⌠you certainly should have.â
âBut I do know him. Youâd be hard pressed to find anyone in Chicago who doesnât know Magnus Bane.â
âI didnât say no, did I?â
