Bruise and Break | Char....Ben
Hurt. He wanted to hurt her. Anyone. She was closest. Pleading. Target. Someone to make bleed. Keep safe. Run from. Stay close to. Hold. Push. Break. Keep. He needed to run. To get away form her. âLeave me alone,â he rasped, backing away. His hands were flexing, seeking the purchase of someone to maim and break as much as his soul felt now. âLeave me alone, let me do this.â Another time and this might mean something else. Something forbidden. âCanât fix this. Canât.â Hands shaking, breaths unsteady. Needed to hurt someone. Anyone. âGet away from me.â
She held firm in her position. âYouâre out of your damn mind if you think Iâm going to leave you alone now.â Her voice was getting louder, her tone harsher, fear fading from her eyes and being replaced with⊠pity? No, it wasnât that, but sadness that Ben truly felt he needed to be alone⊠that he was alone. She kept him at an armâs length distance this time as a backed away, for the first time wondering what else he was capable of when in this state of mind. âYou donât have to deal with this, whatever it is, by yourself, Ben. Iâm here. Iâm here!â She nearly began shouting at him, an underlying annoyance rising at his deferment. âYou donât have to talk to me, or even look at me or acknowledge me. But Iâm not letting you out of my sight. Iâll stand here in silence. Iâll follow you in my car. Iâll walk behind you. Doesnât matter. Youâre hurt and upset and I understand that, believe me I do, and you⊠you donât have to talk Ben, but⊠Iâm here. Okay?â Her voice softened as she walked with bare feet behind him, her arms crossing at her waist.
I donât knowâŠI justâŠI didnât think itâd happen. Too many obstacles. I-Iâm sorry. Itâs just, remember that time you asked what I am and I said Iâm something? I didnât tell you because I wasnât sure how youâd react to it. But, I wanted to talk to you about it..If youâre still up to it.
We all have obstacles Lydia. Look at Lucas and I. Had you asked me if I thought we'd be where we are today a few months ago I'd have laughed in your face. Yeah... so, what are you? Believe me, I've had a lot worse to react to in the past few weeks. I'm sure finding out you're a werewolf or a vampire or what the hell else ever exists will be just the same as telling me what the weather is going to be like for the rest of the week.
Are you surprised or something? I am, a little bit, at the idea of him and I. Ah, touche, forgive me. Just want to make sure. Iâm doing fine, I guess, as fine as I can be right now. Iâm trying to enjoy this time of peace but I just canât shake the feeling that something bad is going to happenâŠ
Not really, I mean... I don't know. But why are you? And... Lydia. Why would you say that? After all that has happened... please don't be bringing your bad vibes around me. Things are just finally starting to look up.
Oh..you didnâtâŠwell, thatâs awkward. Great, we both need some. Umm, I donât know. How about we start with how you are? Are you adjusted toâŠeverything?
Well I knew he was seeing someone I just didn't... it's not important. Now I know and it all makes sense. Adjusted? Not sure where you've been lately Lydia but I'm well beyond accustomed to the lifestyle so, I'm... alive and so are the ones I care about. In my book, I'm doing just a step above alright, for now at least. What about you?

Hunting. That was always a good solution. He could hunt for a week, tracking down those that violated the bastardization of the Code. Fall off the radar until it was done, come back on and feel normal again.
That was the logical route. Fury and snake-like twin of madness refused to let him travel such a path, though.
It was nearly impossible, wasnât it, to control his temper. To stare down at the woman who had saved his life in more ways than one, who was both friend and companion of the innocent nature. To meet her eyes and feel none of that warmth that was friendship and reliance, to merely see her in this moment as an obstacle. âMaâs in a coma.â Another person had their throat would be grasped, their bodies flung asideâprobably still alive, but no point in assuming. The fact of his hands grasping her arms and bodily lifting her out of the way meant something. âGet inside.â
His family had always been a point of contention, something they never talked about much or at all if she really thought back on it. "Ben, I'm so sor--" His hands at her arms, a tightening grip that pulsed worry and even a small ounce of fear into her heart cut her words off at the half way point. "Let me-- Hey, Ben--" She grumbled as he rose her off the ground in attempts to displace her. "Let me go." She demanded, wiggling from his grip when she found her footing. "I'm not going inside. Maybe there's something I can do to help." She offered, her voice pleading as she stepped up to his side once more, unaware of the limits she was pushing, the goosebumps rising on her skin a mere product of the cooling night breeze.

He needed to be outside. Able to do.. something. Anything to purge this.. this fury. The same he had so recently escaped after months of drowning in it. Ironic, wasnât it, that this round was from his motherâs state. The last from his fatherâs death. Now this. Now she was a fucking vegetable because some dick had messed up, gave her exactly what she wanted and the overdose rendered her body in that limbo between life and death. Now what? What was he going to do? Stay. Fight. Protect. Survive?
Fuck that. No. No, he didnât want to survive. He didnât want to fight, to protect, to stay. He wanted.. Blood. He wanted to shed it, to cause its stain on someoneâs broken and bruised skin. Pain. Ben had a bloodlust to cause it, to feel it. A near-madness for the very thing when he turned sharply from the hand on his shoulder, snagging her wrist and unmindful of his strength. Nor was he of the mad glintâthat of a warrior hell-bent on dying in a fightâin pale eyes as they met her dark hues. âGo inside,â the hunter growled and lightly shoved her back, turned and started to stride away.
Guilt nearly appeared. Ben hated when Charlotte saw him like this.
Her brows bent inward as she inhaled sharply at the tight grip he held on her wrist. "Ben, you're--" She tried to muster out the words but the look in his eyes batted them away. A twinge of discomfort could be seen in the curl of her upper lip as she rose to her tip toes to try and alleviate some of the pain that was beginning to shoot up her forearm. This wasn't like him, he wouldn't grab at her like this-- not intentionally. Something had to be seriously wrong and his mannerisms clearly displayed a great deal of agitation, no-- rage that began to bubble inside him.
She stumbled backwards a few steps as he released and pushed her backwards. Her opposite hand rose up to rub at her wrist, blood resuming its normal flow in the veins that had begun to rise on her skin. Her face contorted into a disgruntled look, ignoring any ill will towards him for his treatment but more so that he was denying her insight as to what had happened. "No." She said firmly, stepping forward, the ground cool beneath her bare feet. They pattered back in his direction against the pavement as he continued to distance himself, side stepping him so that she stopped him in his direct path. "Not until you tell me what's wrong." She insisted, her eyes set on his face, his features dulled by the darkness as her right hand settled on her hip in an act of defiance.

Warning: the following open para will contain heavy violence
Iâm sorry, Mr. Argent.. There is nothing we can do.
Ben was silent for a moment. Waiting for the âbutâ or âhoweverâ or anything that might give the barest glimpse of hope. All that was there, though, lurking on the other end of the phone were sounds of the hospital. The occasional passing by, breaths on the other end, chatter. Breaths timed evenly. Smoothly. Not as a man who was apologetic but instead calm. Unafraid. Apathetic.
Unafraid. Benâs hand clenched on the phone. Unapologetic. âFix it.â A protest begun, interrupted. âYou gave her the wrong pills. You nearly killed her. You fix it or your career is done.â Calmly spoken, seconds before the mirror against the wall shattered, the cell phone flung against it following suit. Rage, as it was, tended to be a swift and consuming thing when it flared in him. Darkening his eyes that gleamed in the hallway before he reached the outside in long strides.
Charlotte had been sitting peacefully in her apartment, empty and quiet. Curled up on the couch with a brand new book was exactly where she wanted to be on her night off from work. A pale purple tank top hugged tightly at her torso while frilled shorts rode up appealing in in her current position. A faint crashing sound drew her gaze to drift from the page to her front door, another loud bang causing her to sit upright as the book was placed at her side. After the Omega attack she picked up on every creek and crack that the building had to offer. She stood up as she heard a door slam in the hallway, slowly approaching her door and her hand cautiously turning at the doorknob.Â
What started as a gently pull immediately turned into a swift jerking motion as she caught sight of Ben storming by in the hall way. "Ben?" She questioned softly, the calling of his name blatantly ignored. "Hey, Ben!" She spoke louder now, her bare feet stepping out into the hallway in pursuit. "Ben! C'mon. Wait up!" She shouted now, an easy jog catching her up to him as she placed a hand lightly on his shoulder. "Ben, what's wrong?"
On the bleakest days you have to keep your eyes onward and upward and on the saddest days you have to leave them open to let them cry. To then let them dry. To give them a chance to wash out the pain in order to see fresh and clear once again.

Oh, thatâs great. Vacations are always a good thing. It seems like you guys had a lot of time away just the two of you this summer, Iâm sure it was nice.
Yeah. We really needed it. And to be honest, he earned it after everything he went through with Natasha.
I want to talk to youâŠYouâre one of Benâs best friends, right? I know it sounds stupid, but I do want to know his friends better. If you want, I have a bottle of Muscato in my bag too.
Yes. Are you two-- I didn't-- oh. Yeah, wine would be nice. It's not stupid. So... what did you want to talk about?
Information. I know weâve never really talked all that much but I know youâre a nurse and I -
well, Iâm just trying to get my GED now, but I was wondering how you went about that.
I see. Okay, well.. I graduated high school. And went to college. Twice. A college specifically with a nursing program the second time around. So, that's how I went about that. But if you're interested in becoming a nurse, I can help get you information on how to do that. As for your GED, which you'll obviously need before you practice anything medically related, you're going to need to study for before you take the test. They sell tons of guides and practice test booklets in mostly all the book shops in town. I'd advise you start there, take a few of the practice tests and see how you do. Then when you think you're ready, we can move forward with signing you up to take the actual tests.
