mike lays his head on top of your desk, covering your chemistry homework. he has on that face when he really wants something. puppy eyes looking up at you and his bottom lip puffing out a little.
“mike. i’m like three days late on this! i don’t have time for distractions. i need to get this done,”
you drop your pen and sigh. in all honesty you were a little frustrated because your boyfriend has been disturbing for the past few minutes. of course you love him and you want to show him that you do, but you can show him affection everyday! this chemistry assignment does not have the same privilege.
you lean down to give mike a quick peck on the lips, just to keep him satisfied for.. a few seconds..? when you pull away, you find him chasing your lips.
“i promise i’ll give you as much attention as you want after i’m done with this, okay?”
“yeah.. but i think i remember you saying that you were good at multitasking a few days ago,” mike responded, lifting his head up off your paper to give you another peck in an attempt to go deeper into a full on make out. you pull away and go through your chemistry papers,
“okay!! that’s enough, i actually have to do work now.”
“i’m great at chemistry, i can help you,” mike props his head on his palm and looks at you convincingly, “under one condition.. a kiss for every time i give you an answer,” he snickers.

you had asked mike to come to your house after school, it had become a routine ever since you two got together. he’d come over, listen to you ramble about whatever you were irked about, and then you’d have a makeout session… and maybe get high.
it was currently four in the afternoon. you had just finished washing off the sweat from another exhausting day at hawkins high. halfway through changing, with your tank top strap sliding off and panties on, you heard a soft but firm knock on your window. despite being partially naked, you walked over to the windowsill and opened it. a messy-haired head popped through the crack. it was your latest boyfriend, mike wheeler. his figure was softly lit from the lamp on your desk, he stood out from the gloomy weather behind him. his pretty brown eyes scanned your frame, his gaze lingering for longer than a minute.
"are you going to come in or are you just going to stare at me like a creep?" you finally spoke, eyebrow raised, hand on your hip, leaning on your right leg. he tore his eyes away, his cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
"y-yeah, sorry," he responded before frantically scrambling his lanky body into your carefully curated room. once he was fully inside, you shut the window closed and turned back to your closet to finish changing. mike sat on the edge of your bed, staring at you. god was he infatuated. he was looking at you as if he was trying to memorize every single detail on your body. your moles, your goosebumps, and the way your skin stretched along your body as you moved. once you finished changing you grabbed something on your desk and turned back to him,
“so, red or gold?” you asked him, referring to the marlboro packs you had in your hands.
“gold. for sure,” he responded back, not really minding for them. honestly he was just here to be in your presence, not to smoke. that was just a plus.
you grabbed a cigarette & put it between your lips,
“okay, but we’re gonna have to share this one. i’m running low and i don’t feel like going to the store,” you tossed him your lighter, moving to stand in between his legs.
he put his hand on the side of your face, bringing you closer to him. his thumb pressed down on the spark wheel, the warm light from the fire illuminating your faces. you stared at your cig while he lit it. he stared at you. it was a very sweet subtle gesture between the both of you. you took a drag of the cigarette & blew it into his face, causing him to cough,
“what was that for?!” mike complained, still coughing and blinking his eyes. you laughed and laid on your bed, resting your head on mike’s lap.
“you were getting way too lovey dovey for me, looking at me with those big cute eyes of yours,” you responded, looking up at him.
you took the cigarette out of your mouth and put it in between his lips. he took a drag, and made sure not to exhale in your face. you pulled his head down to yours, kissing him. his cheeks flushed, even though this is your usual behavior, teasing him before getting touchy with him, he still got flustered by you.
once you started pulling away, his free hand pulled you back into him. he wasn’t ready to separate from you. the taste of tobacco filled both your mouths. you gave into the kiss but finally pulled away,
“don’t be greedy,” you patted his cheek and grabbed his hand to put the cigarette in between your lips.

it was saturday, and you were hanging out with your boyfriend,
mike wheeler.
the winter weather was cold and gloomy, so you both decided to stay at your house for the day. the two of you were just sitting on the couch watching some random television show while embracing eachother's warmth. mike sprawled out on the couch with you laying on him, your head pressed against his chest.
you were playing with small strands of his hair when suddenly a thought popped up in your brain.
"mike, you need a haircut," you said softly, looking up at him.
"you think i need a haircut," he replied back, with a hint of sass.
"don't like my hair anymore? 'thought you said it was cute," he mumbled teasingly.
"of course it's cute! i never said otherwise! its just that it's getting too long," you retorted.
he huffed out a laugh. you could feel the vibration of the action coming from his chest. he moved his hands to cup either side of your face. the warmth from his hands was comforting for your cold cheeks.
"wanna cut my hair then?" he asked, his eyebrows raising slightly, a small smirk slowly creeping onto his face. a sweet smile appeared on your face at his question.
"yes, please. you'll let me do that? you trust me?" you sputtered out in excitement. he let out a short grunt-like chuckle at your enthusiasm,
"yeah, i trust you. just don't shave all my hair off."
you tossed the shared blanket you two had been using off, the chill of your house hitting you. you stood up and grabbed his hand, yanking him off the couch very eagerly. your smile grew wider at the thought of 'customizing your own mike'. you ran to your bathroom, mike's hand in yours. you sat him down on your vanity chair.
"okay, wait here just a minute," you said while walking out to find the tools you needed to fix his overgrown hair. while you were gone for a bit, he sat still and admired all the little details that led back to you. to your hair brush, make-up palettes, your very lightly scented grape hand cream, and hair ties.
you slid back into the room with a very packed bag in your hand. mike smiled at you.
"okay, im back. so, what haircut would you like today my good sir?" you inquired with an accent.
"you shall do as you please, your royal highness," he replied back with the same tone. you giggled, that smile still present on your face. you spread out the styling tools onto your vanity, deciding which one to use first.
“hey, should we give you that orange mohawk you wanted a while ago?” you snickered, you laid your hands on his head and smirked. mike’s eyes widened at the memory.
“oh god, no! why would you bring that up i totally forgot about that!” he quipped, trying to sound offended, he really wasn’t.
he looked up at you through the mirror you both were facing, you stood behind him. with that same boyish smile he’d always had. his eyes were filled with so much love, you could feel your heart start to beat a little faster than normal.
“okay well, there goes my first and only idea for your haircut,” you lied, acting bummed out, putting your hands on your hips to enact it. mike turned around to face you,
“i’m sorry,” he said, indulging in your little act. he then cupped your cheeks and gave you a quick peck on the lips.
“it’s okay,” your cheeks flushed at the small action.
he turned around back in his seat, facing the mirror. you grabbed a pair of scissors and starting trimming small strands of his curly hair. you were very focused, dark hair slowly piling up on your vanity and the floor. mike sat very still the whole time, his eyes heavy lidded like he was about to fall asleep. then all of a sudden his head nodded down mid-hair cut.
“mike! are you falling asleep on me?” you gasped in shock. he awoke from his short slumber.
“m’ sorry, i like it when you touch my hair, it keeps me calm,” he mumbled, still a little sleepy. he kept his eyes open for the rest of the haircut, even though he felt so relaxed that he could fall asleep at any moment. mike kept his eyes on you through the mirror, admiring you. you slightly bit down on your bottom lip, thinking about something.
“..mike, i’ve never really told you this but i’m very thankful for you.” you muttered, looking at him through the mirror, both your eyes meeting.
“what do you mean,” he says, genuinely a bit confused.
“i mean, you know how my past relationships were. they weren’t very, good, to put it short. but you’ve been treating me with only love and good intentions, and for that i’m grateful. i don’t think i’ve been this happy in a while.” you said, getting a little emotional.
he turned to face you, his eyes dilated looking at you. he gently grabbed you arm and pulled you closer to him, his lips landing on yours. his hand moved up to your cheek. he kissed you, not aggressive but softly, like you would break if he had been rougher than that. you gripped onto his bicep for stability. he pulled back but not too far.
“i love you, y/n,” he said breathily, his cheeks had a hint of red on them.

you jumped off your bike and tossed it on your lawn, running into your house with tears running down your face. earlier today, you and the party were hanging out at the wheeler's house. you all had planned on watching return of the jedi. you were sitting between mike and max on the couch, lucas next to max. you and mike shared a blanket. will, dustin, and el sat in their separate armchairs.
"i'm getting hungry.." el said, looking at the group.
"yeah, me too, uhm, el and i are gonna go get some snacks," mike added frantically. you turned to him,
"okay, can you get me a-"
"coca-cola, yeah, of course, we'll be back!" he stood up and walked up the stairs, el following behind him. you just smiled and turned back to the television.
"don't take too long, the best scene is coming up!!" dustin yelled up the stairs.

it's been approximately ten minutes since they left; it doesn't take that long to pick up a few snacks. you tossed the blanket off your lap and stood up,
"i'm gonna go check on them, maybe they need help carrying the snacks down," you said with a small groan from sitting so long, then rushed up the stairs.
you turn to close the basement door, leaving it open a sliver. you make your way to the kitchen, and there you see mike, his back facing towards you. you don't see el, you look back around the hallway looking for her,
"hey, are you done getting the snacks? where's el?" you turn back to look at mike, he jumps. he turned to face you, oh, that's where el was.
his eyes wide, mouth parted slightly. mike was holding onto either side of el's body, their lips faintly swollen, but still noticeable. el's lips pursed as she looked away from both you and mike.
"..i'm going home," your breath hitched, you turned to the front door, grabbing your shoes and quickly putting them on.
"shit." mike whispered. he turned between the spot you had just left and el. mike rushed to the door,
"wait! y/n- shit, can we talk?!" he yelled out towards you, watching you hop onto your bike,
"i don't want to talk to you, michael!" you cried out, pedalling as fast as you could. tears welling up and threatening to spill. you've felt this before, not as intense as this, but you have.
el and mike used to date a while back, before he got with you. you always felt a little insecure about it since she is beautiful, and she has powers. powers! how could you even compete with that? but mike had reassured you that their feelings were neutral, that he only had eyes for you, that you were the only one.
max and the rest of the party came up after hearing mike yell. el had her head in her palm, mike struggling to put on his beaten-up shoes.
"what the hell happened?" lucas asked,
"where's y/n?" max looked at mike, eyebrows furrowing looking for an answer.
"she left," el responded, "i'm going home too." she sighed and grabbed her jacket from the hanger and walked out.
"i messed up, bad, i have to talk to y/n," mike spurted out. dustin looked at mike with eagle eyes, like he was inspecting him.
"dude. were you and el.." dustin made a motion with his hands to which mike sighed and clicked his tongue at. that said, max and lucas put two and two together.
"not cool. that is so not cool," dustin dropped his arms to his sides.
"what the hell is wrong with you, man? really? if you're planning on apologizing and getting back with her, it's not going to work," lucas pointed out. mike turned to face lucas,
"look, i know what i did was stupid- and i'm going to make up with her! i just-" he groaned and turned to face the door in annoyance before making up his mind,
"i'm going," he opened the door and grabbed his bike.
and that's how you ended up in this situation.

once you reached your house, you slammed the door behind you, sinking down with your back pressed against the door. you had your head in your hands, the wetness of your tears staining your sleeves. you heard footsteps on your porch,
"y/n, can we talk?" mike said behind your door, knocking rapidly.
"i said i don't want to talk to you mike!"
"please, just let me in, i'm sorry i'll explain everything- i'll make things right!"
"go away mike! i won't let you in, and there's nothing left to explain. i've seen enough," you sniffled and wiped your nose with your already drenched sleeve. your eyes were already getting puffy.
"i was wrong, i hurt your feelings when i did.. that, but i learned my lesson! i'll stop acting like a kid, please.." mike leaned his forehead against your door, his fist lying beside his head where he was knocking.
"can you give me one more chance?" he mumbled, just loud enough that you could hear it through the barrier separating the two of you.
"you said you were over her.." you muttered, "that i didn't have to worry, did you mean any of that, did our relationship even mean anything to you?"
"of course it meant something!,"
"i can't live without you, please don't do this. i'm sorry, it was a mistake, i only have eyes for you, i swear."
mike sighed, tears prickling from his eyes.
"that was your last chance mike, and you blew it."
"go home, mike."

you and mike have been friends since the third grade, you were a bubbly kid and approached him first. since then, the two of you have been inseparable. until mike started to ignore you, brush you off, and today, you decided you had had enough of it.
two weeks ago, you and mike had set up a hangout at the arcade, to which he never appeared, and he was always early to your hangouts. you missed hanging out with him, truly. when you got to school, you noticed his bike in the rack, so you knew he was already here. you walked into hawkins high and there he was,
"mike, what the hell is going on with you?" you exclaimed, trailing behind mike to his locker.
"nothing's wrong,"
"then why have you been ignoring me these past days? we planned a hangout for wednesday, remember? where were you?"
"i was busy, you know finals are coming up," he responded, monotone and cold. he didn't even bother looking at you; he just opened his locker, picking up his binders. you scoffed, crossing your arms,
"if that was the case, you could've just told me, but i know that's not the case. i rang you seven times the other day, you didn't pick up."
mike slammed his locker and turned to you, holding his backpack strap,
"i was busy, okay! what more do you want to hear?" he sighed,
"all you do is whine.."
the last part was muttered under his breath. you didn't respond, just looking at him with quivering lips. were you really that annoying to him?
"look i really don't have time for this right now, okay? can we talk about this later,"
"oh, so now you want to talk about it later? there is no later mike, i called you seven times, seven times, mike! i'm going to class," your voice shaky, eyes going glossy, like you were going to break down at any moment.
mike opened his mouth to say something, but when nothing came out he just sighed and closed it. he watched as you turned away from him and walked away, disappearing in the crowd of students in the hall.

the real reason why mike was ignoring you was that he was afraid. not afraid of you but afraid of letting his feelings for you show. his brain made up a bunch of situations of what could happen if he were to tell you how he felt. you would look at him like he had just confessed that he murdered someone, or you'd stop wanting to be his friend, or- who even cares what could happen between you, it's not like he even plans on telling you anyway.
maybe if he got you angry enough at him (because you are always oh so sweet to him), his feelings would go away.
you and mike shared sixth period together, your final class. and since you guys have been friends for forever, obviously, you two chose to sit next to each other at the start of the year.
your shared desk was filled with an uncomfortable silence, the repetitive clicking of mike's pen and his leg bouncing up and down was the only noise that filled the room.
"can you stop that," you turned to him, he didn't respond, but he obliged, the clicking stopping, and the sound of pencils writing filled in the silence.
"the class is silent today huh, mike and y/n you two finally decided to stop interrupting the class?," your teacher, Mr. McCoy, said with a very clear hint of sarcasm.
the two of you just glanced up, rolled your eyes, and turned back to your papers. usually in this class, you and mike would be laughing at the stupidest shit ever in the back of the class. playfully hitting each other, leaning into one another when you laughed too hard, drawing on each other's paper, and writing small notes.
the whole time during class mike was thinking about ways he could get out of this awkward situation with you. maybe i'll just suck it up and tell her, or i could just say that i caught a cold and i didn't want her to get sick or something... no, that doesn't even make any sense! mike sighed and shook his head slightly at his thoughts.
"we're going to talk after class no excuses," you mumbled, contrary to what you said this morning. you missed him so bad, you didn't have time to hold grudges. but what you didn't know was that he missed you just as bad, if not even more. mike glanced at you and just hummed, returning back to scribble whatever on his paper.

the sun was hidden behind the clouds in the sky, there was a slight chill in the air. the campus was practically empty; almost everyone had already gone home. you and mike were at the bike rack. you lived in the same neighborhood, so you'd usually bike home together.
“so.. do you want to tell me why you’ve been distancing yourself from me lately?” you sighed in that same soft voice that you always use when he would have a problem that would make him go quiet. you fidgeted with your bike handle, you stared at your foot, lightly kicking the gravel on the ground.
“have i been too clingy, did i do something wrong? i mean- if i did- ,” your eyes shooting up to look at mike,
“no! no, you didn’t, it’s just..” he groaned,
“i’ve been feeling.. these things and i don’t know how to.. god, i just don’t know,” he ran a hand through his hair,
“you can tell me anything, friends tell each other everything right?”
friends, yeah. that’s what you two were, just two best friends. mike didn’t want to be friends; he wanted more, but god was it hard to voice it.
“yeah, okay.. i don't want to be friends,"
"what?"
"i'm sorry for pushing you away and i'm sorry for saying all that shit earlier, i didn't mean it. i just- i thought that if you were angry with me and didn't want anything to do with me, then the feelings would go away and everything would be okay, but they didn't. you.. you're all i think about, i don't think i've felt complete until the day you entered my life. i can't live without you," he let out a breath and tilted his head down, hair falling onto his face in the process.
"mike.." you reached to grab his hand. with your other hand, you move away strands of hair that fell on his face.
"i feel the same way, it hurt being away from you, i missed you so much," you murmured into his chest.
he leaned his head on top of yours, pulling you in closer, holding you like you would disappear if he didn't.
"i don't really whine all the time do i..?" you asked,
"you do, kind of. but that's okay, it adds to your charm," mike huffed out a chuckle.
