We need to talk more about this.
A number of experts (such as Dr. Russell Barkley) have advocated changing the name of ADHD,as it does a very poor job of describing a handful of symptoms, and entirely ignores the root cause. As I recall, his preference was Executive Function Deficit Disorder, which does a much better job of describing what is happening, and has the benefit of being ‘I have a condition which causes difficulty in performing these types of tasks’ rather than ‘I don’t pay attention and can’t sit still’, which more closely tracks to ‘disability’.
