if you walked away from this movie thinking it was gratuitous i think you're just straight up bad at watching movies. the whole point is to shift the focus onto the victims and their feelings, showing ann sobbing while she's forced to undress + holding on the shot of her and george holding each other after their son is killed. the whole point is confronting what the audience finds entertaining and why they wanted to watch a movie advertised to them as "fucked up torture porn" in the first place. though i suppose the messaging wouldn't work if people thought it was just a regular-degular movie now would it
