Braham becomes the Wolf.
Thinking about doing that challenge where you get your character to lvl 80 plus 50% map completion minimal.
It includes:
- No mounts (except for nasty WPs)
- No quests that conflict with the chars morals
- Wear appropriate attire to the weather
- Remain nourished all the time
- No gameplay at night (so the char can sleep)
- Only use lvl up tomes in a library or home instance
And I saw this challenge today but can’t find the post again so I’m not sure of the other details besides it being One Life and it’s over.
It just sounds like a tonne of fun so if you know the OG post hmu
Me, watching Braham absolutely snap whilst defending me: haha yeah son *bleeding out and possibly about to die* that’s my boy look at him go
I drew my soft boy, Muffles Inkclaw. Well, a rough sketch. He is a loveable squish who is somehow with pirates.
big old question for the GW2 community: what do you think is the best GW2 class to start off with if you’ve never played before? i am very curious since opinions seem to differentiate quite a lot.
I think either Ranger or Guardian would be good classes to start off with. Maybe just because I started off with those classes, but I feel they are easy to use and have straightforward and effective attacks
Oh yeah the guardian. A lot of the weapon abilities have some form of heal/protection/aegis/retaliation so guardians tend to not die as much. Perfect for noobs who may or may not be getting used to mmo keybinds.
Im pretty sure the professions menu was built with this in mind? My go to ‘newbie friendly classes’ are warrior, ranger, necro (and guardian as my fourth) which i think also happen to be the leftmost classes when you pick. I normally just say “left is easy, middle is middle, and right can be a challenge unless it sounds interesting to you specifically”.
Not that i followed my own advice when i first started with a mesmer lol
Honestly, I never noticed this about the professions menu but it makes a lot of sense regarding survivability and now I feel silly. That said, you made a rad point in the tags that if a profession speaks to you and you think it sounds fun then picking that regardless of difficulty is gonna be way more fun and rewarding than picking one because it’s ‘easy’. That said, I love Mesmer and Elementalist despite my main being a Ranger. They’re fascinating and pretty complicated but I play them anyway and over time I’m learning what works and what doesn’t so it might be a bit of a steeper learning curve but if you’re not opposed to a challenge then definitely just go for it. And hell, if you start off with a more ‘difficult’ class then the worst that can happen is that you decide it’s too complex and choose one that’s a little less intricate (and dear god how do Elementalists do it?? It baffles me I am in awe it’s so much wtf I always press the wrong buttons). TLDR: some classes are easier, some are harder. Find one that sounds like fun and try and make it work. If it doesn’t then that’s okay. There’s always more to choose from.

A second notion in favour of Guardian, of which I entirely agree! I think Guardian is pretty perfect in terms of getting new players used to the controls, mechanics and also that healthy dose of survivability.

I started on Ranger too (and he remains my main cuz I love the pet mechanics) and I agree it’s a pretty solid all-rounder, the pet really is super helpful and especially when you get to soulbeast it becomes super fun. I don’t have too much experience with Guardian but what I have tried and tested is that they’re sturdy and not too complicated but still fun, if in a very different way.
