One of the darkest and most disturbing moments of modern Afghan society was the mob killing of 27-year-old girl Farkhunda, student of Islamic law, last year in the very centre of #Kabul by dozens of ordinary men turned into a pack of wild animals when the caretaker of Shah-e Du Shamshira shrine, Zain-ul-Din, started shouting and accusing Farkhunda of burning the Quran and "being sent by Americans" (WTF?!). Despite the fact Farkhunda begged for help, no one of the hundreds of cowards around moved a finger, letting the animals stone her, beat her, drag her body with a car and finally burn her. The police didn't help her either, all officers just standing there uselessly watching the show. During her funerals a group of women carried the coffin, and when men tried to help, they chased them away accusing them: "Don't touch it. Where were you when they attacked her?" In #Afghanistan the government doesn't even require women to wear the headscarf, yet all do and many never leave the house without chador or even burqa, some following their religious beliefs, some because afraid of living in such a misogynist society. #everydayafghanistan #everydayasia #everydaykabul
