I haven't got the energy to go into a full rant now, but:
Part of the reason why I found the ending of DMC3 so beautiful was precisely because there was no romance between Dante and Lady. They came to understand each other through their shared experiences dealing with their difficult family, with Lady teaching the careless Dante the importance of responsibility and duty. The ending of DMC3 remains to me one of the most beautiful, subtle, and elegant story endings, with Lady's incredible kindness to the grieving Dante that acknowledged his pain, offered him comfort, and allowed him to save face being brilliantly written. I don't think I'll ever forget that. Of course, you can read romantic subtext into their relationship if you want to, but to me, they've always felt platonic and like siblings at the end of 3. Their understanding and bonding wasn't predicated on mutual attraction but by shared experience and common ground, and that is much more elegant to me than the relationship and entire conclusion to the game being fueled by a romantic attraction.
Dante didn't change and grow because he fell in love with Lady and wanted to be worthy of her; Dante changed and grew because Lady showed him that he had to grow up and step into the responsibility that awaited him because it was his duty as the son of Sparda and Vergil's brother. He couldn't keep running forever and living his happy-go-lucky carefree and careless life, there were things in this world that only he could do and so he had to do them. That, to me, is incredibly powerful and it's what makes Dante into a hero: the fact that he decides to do the right thing when there's literally nothing in the world that can force him to do so if he doesn't want to. He makes the choice and decision of his own free will, inspired by Lady's own relentless determination and resolve to put an end to the chaos her father created, to step up and be a hero and a protector of humanity like his own father.
It wasn't his love for Lady that made Dante do this. Lady showed him, reminded him, even, of the right path, and so he chose to take it. It's so much more inspiring and beautiful to me if Dante makes that choice not out of love, but because he realized it was the right thing to do.
Sure, you can argue there's a parallel between Sparda choosing humanity after falling in love with a human woman and then Dante doing the same, but again, not to repeat myself: I think it's a more beautiful narrative if it's not love for a single person that motivates Dante, but the acceptance of duty and responsibility, legacy and inheritance. It also plays into the larger themes of the series, DMC3, and the narrative itself, with a lot of focus being given on familial bonds and how they affect the remaining members. Family is one of DMC's biggest themes, and I'm not saying romance has no place in it (Nero and Kyrie are right there, and I've been shipping hundreds of ships in the decades I've been in fandom), but DMC3 in particular goes heavy on it. Lady and Dante bond specifically over having messed-up families.
There is that whole moment in the library where they do look like they're going to kiss, and Dante's comment of not going out with women who shoot him in the face, so again, if you want to build a romance between them after the story, go for it. But within the story itself, it's difficult for me to see any heavy romantic subtext or tension between them when that's just... not what the story is about, to me. (It's been a hot minute since I last played DMC3, but the two moments I mentioned are pretty much the only things that come to mind when I think about subtext between them.)
So... yeah, I'm not surprised Netflix DMC shoved them into a relationship. It's just another piece of evidence that they don't understand or intentionally disregard the source material.
I've been playing a lot of Kjerag-only Integrated Strategies, and I see now why CN said the ideal combo is Gnosis (α module) + SA2. Gnosis is powerful on his own, as is SA2, but their combined forces catapult them into a whole new tier of power. The map-wide control and passive buffs they give each other lets them reach heights they wouldn't be able to reach alone.
Their gameplay now reflects their lore lol...
The close third is Pram2. She's the next one I recruit after Silverweiss, but she also depends on them: she needs SA2's regen for more aggressive placement and Gnosis's damage helps her dominate the map even better.
The three of them can basically handle anything. They have CC, anti-air, and sustained and burst DPS. Mobs? Not a problem. Bosses? They crumble.
After that, I've been reaching most for SA1 over Degenbrecher, though I often hesitate which one to choose. But generally, I'm finding SA1 is more useful at E1 than Degenbrecher unless she has ASPD or SP relics. I'm basically leaving him on S1 (which I have M3) the whole time now. With Gnosis's IS module, he can do stupid high damage on S1 and permafreeze some enemies from afar before they even reach him. His stocks really went up immensely with the module.
Of the 5-stars, Snow Hunter is a stand-out. She's an absolutely fantastic addition to the Kjerag team, with her long range and high damage being extremely valuable in IS and in the regular game. She's like a ranged Lord, and being able to snipe dangerous enemies before they get close is great. Her one flaw is that her archetype means that she doesn't attack when she's out of ammo, but the rest of the team can cover when she's reloading. I've been starting with a team of Snow Hunter, Courier, and Cliffheart in IS3, and it's a great, well-rounded opening team until the powerhouses can be recruited.
The other Kjerag operators are of... varying use. Cliffheart is always good for her flexible placement, True damage, stun, and shifting. Aurora is good for elites. Pram1 and Kjera are a bit meh. Steward is good depending on relics. Harold is a must if SA2 hasn't been promoted yet, otherwise he can be a bit redundant once the core trio of SA2, Gnosis, and Pram2 are assembled. Courier is definitely for starting only as he becomes useless once SA2 is on the map. Matterhorn supposedly can become incredibly tanky with SA2's talent, but being as I'm playing mostly IS3 and IS6, where's there's not really much demand for tanking, I can't really comment on it.
On the whole, the Kjerag team is extremely powerful and quite fun. I've been enjoying them a lot!
IS6 endings 1-3 completed with Kjeragknights! That leaves just ending 4 now. :D
Perhaps this team will also finally help beat Izumik, as I haven't gotten that ending yet. In general I am way behind on the previous ISes (level 50 for 3, level 30 for 5, and 0 for 4, I've literally never touched it), but now I'm more motivated to go baxk and grind out those rewards.
(Ignore the fact that I'm a weenie who plays on D0, I'm here to have fun, not make myself suffer needlessly.)
IS6 ending 4 with Kjerag only completed! Honestly, Beyond Mount and Sea was harder than the boss itself. It wiped my last attempt so this time I cheated and refreshed it with a coin. I ended up sending Harold and Snow Hunter into the scroll as well at the end, but honestly, the core team of Trio (double SA) + Enya did 90% of the work and Snow Hunter just helped DPS some of the statuegeists. Ju is not immune to Freeze so Gnosis deals with him almost singlehandedly and Degen bursts Hou down in phase 2. I'll probably give it another go at some point.
Ignore the temporary recruit Aurora, I had a brain fart and grabbed her instead of my own for some reason. I also got very lucky on this run because my first entry into Remnant Consciousness did not have a shop node and I was only able to obtain the Unsealed Case at the end of floor 4 and was lucky enough to have a coin which allowed me to refresh a node into a Scout node.
So with this, IS6 all available endings have been cleared with Kjerag only.
Remaining:
IS2: ED3, 4
IS3: All endings completed
IS4: 0 (I've literally never touched IS4, I'm gonna do it after IS3's reward ladder is completed)
IS5: 0 (again, barely played it)
IS6: All endings completed
I would really like to do all of 2, but the ending encounter RNG is so bad...

Ngl the insistent prevalence and popularity of SilverDoc (especially after OS, where his character was given even more development and we got a whole PV effectively calling out his misconceptions) and the way his character is flattened into a very specific archetype has been grating on me. The constant jokes that "teehee Silverash quit his job to live on Rhodes Island and (try to) fuck Doctor" and the way his complex writing is just smushed into the mold of a desperate, clingy, pathetic sex pest is really grating on me. Even more irritating is the fact that it's practically a meme with him and still attached to those senseless dead horse bloodline jokes. His "gacha mc ship bait" lines are more blatant and obvious than ever, yet clearly they work because people latch on to them and run very very far with them.
"Ur just salty bc u ship him with someone else"
I'm salty because 99% of SilverDoc doesn't even try to cook with it. It's always just ~Ooh Silverash the dom daddy CEO~ ~Ooh he's sexually harassing me but it's okay because he's just so in love~ or "Haha Silverash wants to fuck Doc sooo badly haha isn't it funny how badly he wants to fuck Doc?"
I've heard it a million times, and I am Tired. I am Tired of seeing a character I love have all his complexity, nuance, and depth discarded in favor of a worn-out meme and a self-indulgent fantasy. I want to appreciate him as a character, as he's written, and seeing him widely treated like this is... frustrating.
"lol just let people have fun"
They can have fun over there. I certainly do not go looking to see what they're doing in their sandbox, and I'm happy to stay in my sandbox as long as they stay in theirs. It's just very annoying how their sand mold is so mainstream, even if only for its simplicity and how easy it is to digest. But I do not engage with fiction and play in my sandbox looking for toys that are simple; I like complicated toys that I can play with for hours, turning them over and over again and still finding new things. That's how I feel about Silverash, and I feel like sometimes I'm holding him up and going, "Look, isn't it so pretty and complex?" while over there, people hold up a completely bastardized version that has had all its fascinating and interesting facets stripped of it, and an enormous amount of people laugh and clap at this extremely watered down and simplified version while ignoring the real one. The audience of that version isn't mine and they aren't stealing my audience, but the lack of appreciation and conversation is frustrating.
/end rant
Look at my Kjerags. I'm so proud of them. :)
("But Harold--"
I love him and they need a medic so he comes along. Arguably the most useless op here is Courier now with the release of SA2, but I love him too. Maybe I'll swap him for Pram1, but Pram1 in general is just inferior to Gnosis, although her RNG Cold with mod3 lets her contribute a little bit more to the team now. So the team members can be rotated as needed, particularly as not pictured as well are Steward and Leto.)
Now the question becomes whether I should max level everyone, mastery their bad skills, and mod3 those who don't have it yet. Pondering.
It's also completely intentional that Gnosis is sandwiched between Silverashes and Degenbrecher is the next closest. :3
Did the grid meme! I'm very Kjerag-pilled (to the surprise of absolutely no-one).
I don't really have a favorite sniper or defender, but I like Fia and Nearl most (I love Nearl's alter, really, but.)
Choosing a favorite E2 is really difficult but Kjera's always strikes me with how majestic it is. Choosing a favorite pretty and cool design is also difficult, and I was trying not to fill every square with Kjerag lol...
I would put SA as my favorite alter, but in terms of "how justified the alter is", Enya wins out over him so I chose her instead.
Finally, I love Gnosis and I will never shut up about Gnosis.
OS-S-5 CM, Kjerag only, by me. I redid my original clear to be cleaner and less panicky at the end, though throwing Kjera and Degen at the final rhuul was definitely overkill. I didn't see that Degen had almost come off cooldown until after I had already deployed Kjera.
"But Harold isn't a Kjerag operator"
He's an honorary Kjerag to me and I love him. He gets to come along.
Everyone here is full potential and mod3 other than Kjera, Harold, Matterhorn, and Snow Hunter (they're all mod1). Silverash is S1M3. MVP for this clear is definitely Snow Hunter, couldn't have done it without her to deal with those bats. Silverash and Cliffheart kind of struggle and she's the only one who can reliably hit that far and OHKO them. The CM condition means I have to deploy Aurora very late to deal with the storisbits rather than chipping away at them at spawn.
In hindsight, I probably could have faced Reignfrost down or moved him over a tile so he could chip at the storisbits, but my primary concern was dealing with the huntsmen ASAP to keep Snow Hunter alive. She's the most fragile after Harold and the most important.
As I said in my previous post, this clear took me a good 2-3 hours to work out. Either it was not enough DPS for the bats, or everyone explodes in the middle (and then not enough DPS for the bats). But I'm pretty proud of this clear, so here it is.
This is my first time using YT and I have no video editing software to speak of and my computer is very much a potato, so forgive the extremely bare bones video.
Since I've been talking about Karlan Trio as a throuple, Imma talk about my romance headcanons for them.
Enciodes that classical romance guy who does roses, chocolate, and poetry. He writes his own poetry when he has the time (and he's actually not terrible, though nobody tells him this lest it go to his head). He does dates that start at the theater or opera and end with a fine three-course dinner and fine wine. He's a blue blood and was raised on a very old-fashioned way of wooing and flirting and winning affection, so he's prepared, willing, and happy to kiss hands and kneel and go on long devoted speeches about how his heart belongs to his beloved alone and they're worth more than the stars and the sun and all of that... except neither of his beloveds have the patience for that song and dance. Gnosis has a sweet tooth so he'll accept chocolates but doesn't care for flowers or poetry or impassioned declarations of undying love (it's more of Enciodes's brand of overblown everything). He'll listen to a poem or two to make Enciodes happy, and lets Enciodes call him "darling" and "dear" and "my love", but that's it. Degenbrecher similarly is far too down to earth for all that hoity-toity stuff and much more blunt about it so Enciodes doesn't even try with her like he does with Gnosis. She'll laugh at him, she's got ten years on him and anything he does is just cute to her, including when he tries to treat her like a high class lady.
Fortunately(?) for him, he's a quick learner and figured out very quickly what the others would tolerate and what they wouldn't. Initially he wilted a bit at Gnosis's resistance to romance, but with the same single-mindedness with which he pursued Gnosis in the first place, he was quick to begin trying everything until he figured out what Gnosis liked.
Gnosis lets him do the whole fancy date thing, and over time he's gotten more into it, if only because Enciodes takes such pleasure in it and Enciodes is cute when he's excited and being genuine (and Gnosis finds him the most endearing when he's being himself and not wearing his stoic and arrogant persona). Enciodes, having a hopeless romantic streak, is happy to be in love and is still in the honeymoon phase twenty years later and gets all sparkly-eyed for date night even if now that he's older he's better at putting a lid on it and being suave, and Gnosis will never admit it but he thinks it's adorable. That's worth enduring some tedium when it comes to a movie he wouldn't otherwise go to, and even Gnosis isn't completely immune to Enciodes's charm.
Gnosis is borderline allergic to romance. He doesn't like PDA, he doesn't like fuss, he doesn't like noise. The thought of saying "I love you" makes him break out in hives and he'll sooner stab himself than do it. Romance for Gnosis is being together with someone in peace, doing something they both like together, or just quality time giving each other their full attention and no pretenses. He doesn't get fussed about separation or constant affection, but he likes being fully present in the moment and warms up quickly to gentle touching even if he almost never initiates it. He's a bird and doesn't like to be restrained but likes to have safety and comfort to come home to, and that's what he gets from Enciodes and Degenbrecher: they're there, solid and reliable, and they wait patiently for him to come to them instead of pinning him down and demanding things from him. He'll stay up inadvisably late working, but he'll be happier than he can ever express to snuggle into a warm body that hugs him when he finally goes to bed. He appreciates small gestures like bringing him a cup of coffee or food, things that make him feel remembered even as he likes to seclude himself to work. He's comfier with affectionate bickering than he is with heartfelt words, but he makes an effort to be sincere with Enciodes and Degenbrecher and he's definitely softened up over the years.
Since he's a crane, I have a headcanon that he likes to dance and is actually very good at it (and ice skating), and it's one of his special romantic activities he likes to do as his form of flirting. Enciodes is his preferred partner and Degenbrecher just can't. While it's canon now that Degenbrecher has a motorcycle, I've long had the headcanon that Gnosis also knows how to drive a motorcycle and had one in Victoria that he used to blow off steam because he is a radical with a taste for danger (and this is where I joke that Enciodes is that rich upper class girl who's weak to bad boys, given Gnosis and Degenbrecher both being outcasts and rebels), and he and Enciodes go for rides when they have time (Enciodes is in the back and loves the thrill).
Degenbrecher is similar to Gnosis. She doesn't like ceremony, she's very no fuss no muss, very casual. She doesn't see the point in long declarations or making a big show of things. She's very simple. She likes someone, so she hangs out with them. She's a rough-and-tumble person: she'll throw her arm around Gnosis's or Enciodes's shoulders, put them in a headlock and muss their hair, give big bear hugs on occasion and hoist them onto her shoulders or pick them up and toss them around for the fun of it (Enciodes likes this because he's a cat, Gnosis less so). She'll show up outside their door with a bag of takeout because she wants to eat together, inviting herself in without waiting. She'll physically drag them to lunch or dinner. She doesn't have patience for lots of talking, but if it's something important or serious, she's a good listener. She'll also be the first person to knock sense into either of them by saying, "This is stupid, you're being stupid and overthinking/overplanning/worrying." She's perfectly happy being in the same room with them and not talking and working on separate things. Actions speak louder than words to her, and she likes the easy intimacy of coming and going whenever she pleases and having a constant open welcome, and she's not shy about doing and taking what she wants. She lets herself in and out of the Silverash mansion and Gnosis's house and allows both of them the same access to her flat. They all have each other's keys, and are the only ones to do so.
Degenbrecher appreciates that both of them trust her more than anyone else and let down their guards with her, and she reciprocates that trust in turn by letting them see the parts of her that nobody else sees. To me, she's absolutely covered in scars from her childhood and her arena days and they don't bother her, but most people find them a little unsettling so she covers them up so as not to alarm the Kjerag locals, but when it's just the three of them, she lounges in a t-shirt and shorts (or even less than that) since Enciodes and Gnosis aren't bothered by them, and Gnosis has bandaged her wounds more than once. Degenbrecher values "being herself" and "letting her do what she wants" the most, and that's what she gets with both of them. They love her as she is and for who she is and don't care about her titles or championships, but love her as their friend.
Gnosis and Degenbrecher are much more compatible when it comes to their "styles", and they both enjoy it because they vibe so well together and because Enciodes, as much as they love him, can be a little tiresome sometimes. Gnosis and Degen's dates look very different from their dates with Enciodes. They do things together that they wouldn't do with him, like go blow things up (I like to think they both have a penchant for destruction) or just go eat fast food in hole-in-the-wall diners; very casual and unpretentious, though usually it's Degenbrecher picking because Gnosis simply isn't good at planning dates with the "allergic to romance" thing; he forgets and he's lazy and prefers being the passive partner (in both senses). They'll go watch terrible movies rather than Enciodes's highbrow true art, and even the way they talk to each other is different from with Enciodes; they might use some dirty words and slang they normally refrain from doing with him and make some off-color jokes. Despite being a grade-A turbo nerd STEM student engineer, Gnosis to me has more street smarts than he lets on (see the manga) and absorbs information like a sponge, and he and Degenbrecher have the almost exclusive ability to deadpan the most seemingly-unexpected comment out of the blue and make the other almost cry with laughter.
Degenbrecher and Enciodes have adjacent hobbies in that Degenbrecher likes to fish and Enciodes likes to hunt, and a date they'd both find fun is engaging in both activities separately and rejoining at the end of the day to share their spoils and engaging in the messy work of butchering them together (then ideally, Gnosis does the cooking, but he doesn't always have the chance). I can also see them just exploring a city together, Enciodes seeking out the hidden nooks and alleys and Degen behind him to protect him from his own curiosity but his adventurous spirit is infectious. Enciodes being the cat that he is, meaning that he sometimes likes to knock things over for the fun of it, he occasionally causes a spot of trouble and Degenbrecher has to sling him over her shoulder as run for it, but for all that she grumbles about him causing trouble, she enjoys how he never lets things get boring. Enciodes's playful, often mischievous streak is the part of him that Degenbrecher likes the most, his eagerness to try new things and have new experiences. Enciodes, for all that he can be absolutely insufferable, is the person who brought light into both Gnosis and Degenbrecher's lives, and he continues to do that just by being himself, and so both of them like him most when he's doing that and they can share that with him. Like I said, Degenbrecher has ten years on Enciodes, and she's seen it all already—but Enciodes's verve and tireless desire to learn refreshes her. I also just love the idea of Enciodes retaining a sense of childlike wonder despite everything and figuratively and literally taking Gnosis or Degenbrecher by the hand and leading them into the unknown (and assuredly he did this to Gnosis as a child all the time). I also have the headcanon that Degenbrecher keeps her hair long out of preference because it's very impractical in a fight and she enjoys taking care of it, and I love the image of Enciodes helping her comb it from time to time (being the older brother of two girls, he's got some experience).
Their triple dates look something similar: Enciodes usually picks the activity or venue because he's the leader by choice of the other two (and Degen is unmoved that Gnosis's taste in food is weird), and he does his best to select something they'll all like. Enciodes feels to me like a holiday person, and I bet a local (non-Kjerag) fair or festival would be among his first choices: new or exotic food, things to see and learn, and a place they can explore together and where nobody knows or cares who they are so they're free to be relatively incognito and be themselves. Sometimes they just lounge in some bar and drink and eat together and laugh until the wee hours of the night. Sometimes Enciodes and Gnosis hatch some ridiculous scheme and Degenbrecher has to carry them both under her arms and run. Other times, they go their separate ways while they're on the road and unite at the end of the day at the hotel to flop together on the bed and share their experiences before they go to dinner, sometimes bringing gifts.
And of course, they all bicker affectionately with each other the entire time. :)
I'm both proud and exhausted to say that I cleared EVERY Retracing Our Steps stage with Kjerag only (+Harold)... including OS-S-5 CM, which must have taken me... at least 2 whole hours, maybe 3. Maybe I'll upload it later, but for now, I am beat. This one really was challenging...
Regular mode wasn't too bad, but CM really messed me up since it effectively locked Aurora out of dealing with the Storisbits and made me have to stall to deploy SA1 on the left side to deal with the bats and Degen isn't available for the middle. On the whole, using SA1 with S1 and Cliffheart to deal with the bats really isn't great. Snow Hunter has to help out from the middle, but inevitably she dies at some point from the avalanches. SA2 deals with the huntsmen from the upper right, and the middle lane is a whole... issue with attempts to rotate DPS to deal with the waves. I used Pram2 S3, Gnosis S3, and Degen S3, but juggling DPS for the exploding guys AND trying to keep ranged DPS alive to help with the bats is a whole ordeal.
Ugh. I'm tired.
IS3 all endings cleared with Kjerag only!
This is actually my very first clear of ED4/Izumik, I can barely believe it. The last time I reached him I got stomped and didn't think I could do it without meta, especially as Silverash and Degenbrecher dodged me entirely on this run (I think I got a Guard voucher exactly once and I didn't have enough Hope for either). It was a bit dicey at the end but I squeaked out a win with a little body throwing! Yay!
I'm debating if I want to try for ED4 on IS6 next, or if I want to go try all endings on IS2. I've never beat Big Sad Lock or Mouthpiece more than once, after all. But my rewards are maxed out while IS3 I'm actually still grinding (hit about level 75 just now). Hmmm, we'll see.
Managed to get one more Enya from the gacha, so both siblings are now full pot and fully maxed! Yippee!
Thinking about Karlan Trio again.
Thinking about how in RS, Degenbrecher feels like Kjeragandr is blessing her when she sees Enciodes and Gnosis walking towards her after the battle.
Thinking about how in OS, Enciodes says he's truly grateful to have both Gnosis and Degenbrecher in his life.
Thinking about how Degenbrecher holds Gnosis in equal importance to Enciodes, the man who arguably saved her life and gave her a true home.
Thinking about how Enciodes places Degenbrecher on the same tier as Gnosis, his eternal partner and whose happiness was part of his motivation to lock in for Kjerag's future.
Thinking about how Gnosis tells Enciodes he wants to save him before his arrogance kills him, how he bids Enciodes live and see his dream with his own eyes, and how Gnosis tells Degenbrecher she's going to get herself killed, how he would have risked starting an international war to secure her life.
These three are so incredibly close and tight-knit. They are a unit. Each member means so much to the other two; each one of them holds the others so dear and precious. They care so much about each other. Beneath the surface, where they bicker and bitch and complain about each other, these three are unbreakable. They will fight to death for each other. Hell, they'll even fight about which of them gets to fall on the sword for the other two first and it's only the other two saying, "Can you not, I want you to live," that prevents it.
They love each other so much. It still amazes me.
I also think they're fucking but that's a whole separate post lol
The more Gnosis gets sidelined, the louder I will champion him. The more forgotten Gnosis becomes, the more I will remember him. The more Gnosis is pushed out of the spotlight, the brighter a light I will shine on him.
It's wild how he's clearly well-treated and well-regarded by the writers and the gameplay team; the former give him plenty of time to shine and write his individual lore (oprec, modules) with care and depth and don't shy away from how important he is to the Kjerag storyline, and the latter of which gave him a unique niche which he still retains after years and a busted IS module.
But when it comes to any sort of visual content or important marketing or promotion stuff, he's pushed out. I'm aware that he's very unpopular, but damn, is it really too much to ask for him to get a CG that has his full face in it after three whole events and not a single one? Just why was he left out of AS26 when he fit the theme of "technology of the future" perfectly and literally all the other Kjerag 6-stars got in except him?! It was a literal Rhine/Kjerag collaboration and instead Passenger of all people is there! Hell, Silverash and Degen didn't need to be either when they don't fit the theme, but if they had to be there, then why was Gnosis left out? After he was finally getting included with Silverash and Degen after Rides for a little while, he's left out again.
Archetto, Mizuki, and Ho'olheyak all got new skins with their IS modules, and yes, it's not a rule (Kal'tsit, Swire, and Irene didn't), but it still bugs me that he hasn't gotten his second one yet, and Silverash and Degen both have L2D skins. He got his skin at Stultifera Navis--that was four years ago. (Yes, I know there are ops who still don't have skins and some which have only the one also, but when some ops are getting their third, let me bitch a little.)
How does he keep getting significant lore achievements and progression, yet can't get some visuals to accompany it? The visuals are what the fandom latches onto the most and has the most "wow" factor, and he deserves it too for how intricately he's written and how important he is, and how damn forgotten he is.
/rant over
I just love this bird and want him to get some love too. :(
IS6 endings 1-3 completed with Kjeragknights!
M9 siblings done! Waiting until the last day for Enya's pots. :)
This post has been sitting in my drafts since February, take it.
I love Silverweiss, and I love the dynamic that is Silverweiss + Degen. There's something hilarious to me about the idea of married couple Silverweiss who never go anywhere without their platonic bestie because it's just not right without her. Romantic vacation? Degen comes. Dinner? Degen comes. Some bonding activity? Yep, she's there. She's always tagging along with them even when they don't technically need her because she completes them. When they take the clothes off she leaves but not without teasing them first.
But I also love Karlan Trio as a romantic throuple. To me, it's just a natural evolution of their close friendship and it's so interesting! All three axes of the relationship are great!
Silverweiss are twenty years together and extremely married, partners in crime who promised each other a future and would do anything for each other, asshole husbands who understand each other like no-one else and need each other more than they'd ever admit. No need to elaborate more on that than I already have.
No, I want to talk about Degen and how she fits into it. I know it's popular to ship Degenbrecher with a female character because of her canonical charm, but I'm not the kind of person who ships things without some sort of basis to work with—and she has the most basis with Enciodes and Gnosis, and they mean so much to her. I will never let anyone forget the fact that it's text in RS that she literally feels as if she's being blessed by a higher power when she sees them walking towards her after the battle. They are her everything. She's in Kjerag primarily because of them. She'll never leave them. She'll be by their sides until the day they die.
So! Degenbrecher and Enciodes. They're actually the most "normal" axis of the three, and I've seen people write them rather generically and in far too boring a fashion; very rarely do I see people actually capture how playful their relationship is, how well they understand each other. Degenbrecher never hesitates to criticize Enciodes and tell him to shut up, but I love that line of hers from BI where she tells him, "Okay, let's shove those thoughts back into your head." She's watched him grow from a nervous yet determined teen into the confident, experienced chessmaster he is today, and I'm sure she looks back on those early days fondly and teases him about it. Enciodes trusted her with his life despite having known her only for three months, and it was that act of trust that truly touched her heart and made her choose to stay with them. She's the only true friend he has outside of Gnosis, and we know too well how he had an internal meltdown the day she forgot his medal and made him believe she hated him. They trust each other implicitly, and they have their own funny backhanded joking language that I so adore: the way Enciodes jokes to her at the end of RS that maybe he really is just another unscrupulous businessman like those from Kazimierz trying to use her, and Degenbrecher just smiles and says she's used to it, both of them fully aware that if he was anything of the sort, she wouldn't be there. It's so good.
Then there's Degenbrecher and Gnosis. Oh, DegenGno my beloved! There's so much to explore here, the push-pull of their relationship, colored with a layer of mutual tsundere, snark, and playful antagonism. I love their relationship so much. They'll complain about each other to their faces but they'll fight tooth and nail for each other. They have exclusive dragging rights to each other. They're the kind of friends that will laugh if the other falls on their face but offer a hand up afterwards. They're the kind of friends that will fight over the last bag of chips but god help you if you speak badly of one of them within earshot of the other. Bickering is their love language.
Gnosis is the bottom of both relationships to me, (he can top Enciodes if he wants but he just doesn't feel like it most of the time, it's too much work) and with Degenbrecher, his masochistic side has the perfect partner. Enciodes will make it hurt if asked, but he doesn't have the same sadistic streak as Degenbrecher, so DegenGno to me has a lot more edgeplay and brutality and that's exactly how they like it. I can so easily see Degenbrecher domming the living daylights out of Gnosis and making him cry and they both love every second of it (and she babies him afterward). She'll peg him to within an inch of his life, and he'll complain and beg all the while but never actually mean it and never have to safeword because she knows his limits and exactly how far she can push him to leave him absolutely wrecked.
Degenbrecher also tops Enciodes, because she's the top of the relationship and because I believe in bottom rights for Enciodes. Not only is he just as powerless before Degenbrecher as Gnosis, but the trust between them so thick that he could give himself up and let himself be dominated by her (albeit in a gentler fashion than Gnosis). For the chessmaster who believes that so long as he has enough pieces or cards in his hands, he can work out a win, I can imagine him enjoying just letting go for a little while, and who else is he going to trust to hand over control to other than Degenbrecher? She'd gently but firmly bully him in bed, just as playfully as the rest of their relationship, colored by the fondness of the years but neither of them letting the other forget they have a bit of teeth.
And while Degenbrecher may be the top of the three (of course), that doesn't mean she can't be pampered by them. For the champion who's tried and seen it all, what would she enjoy more than being in between the two people who mean more to her than anyone else? Than letting them worship her, than letting them please her? Calling the shots but relaxing between them, trading playful barbs all the while that do nothing to diminish the shared pleasure? Where else, with whom else would she be happy if not these two, her boys, her idiots, her drama queens? Where else would be more natural for her to be than with them?
