harry   hasn’t   had   a   drink   in   months—   the   faint   glow   around   his   cheeks   &   the   burgeoning   smile   around   his   lips   are   dead   giveaways.   there   is   little   cause   for   celebration   these   days,   but   today,   a   victory.   a   death   eater   has   been   captured   by   members   of   the   order,   and   it   looks   as   though   he’s   going   to   be   able   to   provide   valuable   information   about   the   whereabouts   of   some   of   the   more   notorious   criminal   elements   of   the   organization.

harry’s   own   cause   is   far   removed   from   the   capture   of   any   one   death   eater,   but   he’s   feeling   good,   nevertheless.   he   lifts   his   glass   to   his   face   and   imbibes   deeply   before   turning   towards   his   drinking   partner.

harry   never   cared   much   for   christmas   before   coming   to   Hogwarts.   after   all,   he   hadn’t   had   much   cause   for   cheer   &   celebration   at   the   dursley’s,   what   with   him   receiving   the   same   meager   present   (   often   a   pair   of   smelly   old   socks   )   each   year.         it   wasn’t   until   he   found   himself   opening   PRESENTS   (   actual   presents   !   for   him   !   )   during   his   first   year   that   he   came   to   find   himself   enjoying   the   holiday   spirit.   

this   year,   however,   there’s   special   cause   for   celebration   —   harry   is   staying   at   grimauld   place   for   the   holidays.   of   course,   his   mood   has   been   significantly   depleted   by   the   attack   on   mr.   weasley   (   his   fault,   his   fault,   his   fault   )   but   harry   can’t   help   but   be   moved   into   the   holiday   spirit   by   sirius   himself,   who   has   really   come   to   life   at   the   prospect   of   so   much   company   over   christmas.

harry   &   sirius   are   stringing   lights   along   a   bannister   together.   with   all   the   hustle   &   bustle   about,   it’s   the   first   time   harry’s   been   alone   with   sirius   since   arriving   at   his   house   several   days   ago.   &   although   he’d   like   to   participate   in   all   the   merriment   &   regrets   having   to   do   so,   he   needs   to   talk   to   sirius   about   what’s   been   going   on.   

“   —   sirius   —   can   I   ask   you   about   something   ?   “   harry   says,   under   his   breath.   he’s   not   sure   if   the   others   are   nearby   enough   to   overhear   them.
