In all seriousness if you lived in an age without electric lighting and probably without candles, where torches and rushlights were finnicky and your main light sources were the sun and the campfire, where most jobs away from the fire were simply not possible to accomplish without sunlight, you absolutely would have noticed the lengthening and shortening of daylight hours over the year.
