Names are important. Thatâs something that every person knows.
For Clones, names have individualityâ it shows that theyâre just not a number. But sometimes one just has to wonder: What exactly is in a name?
A shiny, no name yet (officially, but his brothers called him âBabyâ too often and really, he wasnât looking for it to stick), has curiosity unmatched about this. Takes up all of his courage to talk to the Jedi Generals about it, and goes to ask the Generals.
The first one he runs intoâ obviouslyâ is General Obi-Wan Kenobi, quickly followed by Anakin Skywalker and their usual commander and captain. Both Cody and Red just nod to the shiny as the two Jedi explain their names.
Obi-Wan explains that his name is split between two parts with Obi meaning âbeltâ and Wan meaning âpaleâ. He states that itâs in reference to his eyes which were a paler color when he was young.
Anakin proudly states that his name means âHe who is favoredâ and that itâs something his mother wanted for himâ favored by fate to be freed.
Next he runs into General Mace Windu, joined by General Plo Koon, General Depa Bilaba, Commander Caleb Dume, and Commander Ahsoka Tano, the group of them talking about something or another in regards to Commander Tanoâs and Dumeâs next (class) assignments.
Mace grimaces in embarrassment, but admits his name means âgift from the godsâ to which Caleb and Depa both chuckle at. Caleb happily tells the shiny that his name means âbraveryâ and âboldââ which is suitable for such a confident padawan.Â
Depa tells him that her own name means âlightâ.
Plo just gives him an equivalent of a smile and tells him that his name comes from a many form of thunder that sounds around Dorin, and means âone who will become wise and strongâ in the Koon Clanâs original dialect.
Ahsoka then chimes in proudly that her name means âwithout sorrowâ
The shiny moves on from there after thanking them all.
Next he runs into General Eeth Koth, and while trying to keep General Agen Kolar in line, he tells the shiny that his own name means ânoble spiritâ and âfearlessâ while telling them that Agenâs name means âone who returns from agonyâ and jokingly tells him thatâs why Agen always bounces right back from his injuries so quickly
While watching this, General Bultar Swan tells the shiny that her name comes from the Kaut word âTo join or Fastenâ and so her name means âone who brings others together
General Lissarkh just shrugs, doesnât question why they need to know but tells them that her name is broken into two parts: "Lissâ which means âGift of the godsâ and âArkhâ meaning âthe Sunâ and so combined: âThe gods gift of sunâ
General Sha Koon just states her name means the same thing as her uncleâs before the three finally take pity on Eeth and go to help reign in their crèchemate.
The shiny moves on, runs into Generals Kit Fisto, Saesee Tiin, and Shaak Ti.
Kit laughs and tells him that his name to the nautolans comes from an ancient instrument called the Kithara, so his name means âone who makes musicâ roughly.Â
Shaak Ti smiles, she knows this shiny, of course, and tells them that her name, unlike Ahsokaâs name, is one that has meaning when whole. The name âShaak Tiâ means âShe who is powerfulâ and ofc that brings a chuckle from the other Jedi.
Saeseeâs name is also one that is split into two: âSaeâ and âSeeâ with Sae meaning âbloomâ and see meaning, well, to see. So together, âOne who sees the blooming flowersâ. He admits heâs not quite sure why he was named as such, but he does tell the shiny that Iktotch is a rather barren and rocky planet, to see flora is a rare occurrence
The shiny asks Master Cin Drallig when he and a few of the Guard, Padawan Bene McCallum, and General Serra Keto are doing a routine check in the Hangar:Â
Beneâs name meaning âGoodâ and âWelcomingâ and she admits her name isnât as interesting as others before Serra jabs her for that like any sister would.
Serra just grins, her name is derived from the name of spirit-like beings âSeraphinusâ and mean âFiery onesâ, making her name as âOne who is like fireâ
Cin holds off for a bit, as he explains the three Guardsâ names with them. He doesnât tell them what they are, but he does explain that one means âCunning Warriorâ another means âOne born of the ash treeâ and the third meaning âOne who speaks the truthâ
When prompted, Cin just is somewhat reluctant, but states that his name means âgift of the moon goddessâ in some dialects but in others it means âOne who is born of Flameâ.
The shiny bids them farewell after thanking them and moves on.
There are many many other Jedi who he asks but then he runs into General Voolvif Monn who sighs in defeat.
âMy name, Voolvif Monn, is just phonetic. Vool becomes wool, vif becomes if. Monn becomes man. Combined, woolif man. Wolf-Man. My Finder named me, it wasnât creative.â
