I’m so excited I got accepted somewhere, but to be showcased next to other paintings and artworks about a crucial topic. The painting will be shown, not the drawing. Quick sketches from friends who answered a question- “What’s your favorite part of the forest?”
To help me develop a secret sense and emotion of how the forest makes other people feel. I have a new “Lake Forest Aesthetic” series coming up! Stay tuned!
When a short study turns out how you want it! Yay :D
Notice that it’s not a pretty set up. All artist work with whatever space they have. Flexibility, some might say. Using a reference picture as I guide, I wanted to do a vertical landscape again. It is NOT done. Though it’s gotten to a good stopping point. Might dig it back out to work on again while the seasons change. A paradise to escape to. My favorite so far are the boats along with a pink sandy ground~
When your best friend is on an amazing trip to Korea and this moment right here, I’m in love with the place! She is the most beautiful, has a gentle soul, and capturing such an amazing experience...is all I can ask for. Will give this away to her as a gift, in a frame, 12″x12″ raw canvas of gold and red now turned gorgeous! (Stay tuned to find out if she likes it and what it looks like hung up in her room!)
Heliconia- The False Bird of Paradise
Class of 2019, Summer Work May-July 2019
Grown in the rainforest of Puerto Rico, I decided to pick a flower to study and paint away from the nationally acclaimed flower, but one that was unique in shape and unique in growth. The El Yunque Rainforest is home to this flower. Progress shots & final layer.
“Forest Swing” & “Self Destruction”
Both paintings are the last ones I created in my final year of California College of the Arts. Sad to think these where born and created in my tiny cube studio on campus. I tried incorporating female figures into them to reference my “Comforted By...” big girl from my senior show ‘Nature As We Are’. I’ve always stuck to warm, tropical places, though the colors are slowly evolving into a warm palette of paint themselves. The purples and browns show through, so what is the future for Chel Lynn Art? Stick with me and you’ll enjoy the adventure alongside me! <3
Nature As We Are
By Chelsea Lynn Rodriguez
"My collection of paintings desire to bridge the relationship between humanity and nature through light, color and space.”
Nature and landscape in large horizontal paintings of unknown lands and sublimity are evidence of a home away from home, the harmonious bridge absent from modern routine. My style tackles nature with a new breath of life. The new breath emphasizes how the condition of natural landscapes connect to a human condition of isolation and urgency. I pick landscapes that reference a summer, tropical feel due to where my grandmother grew up and the tender love we share for the nature that grows by our feet. My style of painting includes vertical compositions, duality of loose and tight rendering, and hard to soft edges to portray space and atmosphere. I zoom out the perspective seen in my landscapes to bring a divided distance between the audience and desired landscape. Humanity separates itself from nature within a secure, concrete jungle away from wild, dangerous environments. Separated and isolated, humanity is distracted away from nature and by nature at the same time. Longing for a unity and stronger sense of urgency to take care of not only ourselves, but nature as a whole, I strive to create works that tell intriguing narratives with natural phenomenon we’re too distracted to embrace.
