Gotta tell you guys something wild in the Chinese fan sphere

So some fanartist drew a “sexy” (read: booby) version of a (cartoon) character who is traditionally very non-sexualised. Fans of the character got mad about it because it’s kind of groundbreaking how that character is written and portrayed and this art totally ignores the entire point of the character. They demanded the art be deleted. In response to that other people said, well what the fanartist did may be distateful but they have every right to draw what they’re into. The two sides fight for days and each starts a harassment campaign and even report their “opponents’” accounts.

So far so typical. But things eventually come to a head and they decide that this will be settled by votes - not through a poll. Through donations to a children’s education charity via each side’s portal. Whoever can get the highest amount of donation wins.

And that is how this charity received over 1 million in donations in three days lol. Oh btw the “freedom of expression” side won by a landslide (960k to 40k)

he doesn't prefer it, but he's used to it by the time the petrification happens

all of my notes are now safely compiled to the LL doc, the timeline for 3-4 yrs is updated,

oh actually i still have the post-2nd meeting experiment w/ ten diff. parameters. but it's not filled in all the way bc i don't know enough abt magnet properties on cylindrical objects and ferromagnetic paint in general, so the results of some of the ten are blank rn. and some of them have results but not a reason why. thats me going 'i know this fails bc its not possible, but how would it fail in this situation?'

but i am not there yet so i got time to look into it and maybe puzzle out answers.

i wanted to check specific ratios on ao3 and while this is not the 1-week post-ep34 count i thought the halfway mark would be kinder bc there's not a hidden search operator to exclude fics created past a certain day (so i had to manually figure out from fics updated, which wasn't too hard atp)

anyway! i was very surprised at the outcome but of the 43 stanxe fics uploaded to ao3 since last thursday, 37 did not have the stanley&xeno platonic tag doubled onto the ship tag!!! nearly 6:1 was not the ratio i expected but it did make me happy to see this number of fics tagged correctly (even then it's not like i checked to see if both tags DO apply but i think i have the majority of all of these either bookmarked or read or pulled up in a tab to be read, and of those uhhhh lemme check. there's only 1 - phenomenal) significantly higher than the other.

actually upon second thought this is not correct, but i had tag limit n couldn't elaborate. i'm p sure what i've been doing before is 'think of a sound reason, even if you don't agree, as long as you can justify it' and what i changed is looking for ideas that would have 0% of my approval. and then i tried to start by excluding any 'this is the only option' reasons, but then i thought, why do people think that way? why is it the only option and this is justifiable enough to pursue it? (aside from money, which would've been the first thing i thought of no matter what specifically bc it doesn't apply to LL despite it being i think the most common reasoning.) and then i found my answer somewhere in the middle of the two.
