take these, beloved comrade, you are going to need them today:

“One day there was an anonymous present sitting on my doorstep—Volume One of Capital by Karl Marx, in a brown paper bag. A joke? Serious? And who had sent it? I never found out. Late that night, naked in bed, I leafed through it. The beginning was impenetrable, I couldn’t understand it, but when I came to the part about the lives of the workers—the coal miners, the child laborers—I could feel myself suddenly breathing more slowly. How angry he was. Page after page. Then I turned back to an earlier section, and I came to a phrase that I’d heard before, a strange, upsetting, sort of ugly phrase: this was the section on “commodity fetishism,” “the fetishism of commodities.” I wanted to understand that weird-sounding phrase, but I could tell that, to understand it, your whole life would probably have to change. His explanation was very elusive. He used the example that people say, “Twenty yards of linen are worth two pounds.” People say that about every thing that it has a certain value. This is worth that. This coat, this sweater, this cup of coffee: each thing worth some quantity of money, or some number of other things—one coat, worth three sweaters, or so much money—as if that coat, suddenly appearing on the earth, contained somewhere inside itself an amount of value, like an inner soul, as if the coat were a fetish, a physical object that contains a living spirit. But what really determines the value of a coat? The coat’s price comes from its history, the history of all the people involved in making it and selling it and all the particular relationships they had. And if we buy the coat, we, too, form relationships with all those people, and yet we hide those relationships from our own awareness by pretending we live in a world where coats have no history but just fall down from heaven with prices marked inside. “I like this coat,” we say, “It’s not expensive,” as if that were a fact about the coat and not the end of a story about all the people who made it and sold it, “I like the pictures in this magazine.” A naked woman leans over a fence. A man buys a magazine and stares at her picture. The destinies of these two are linked. The man has paid the woman to take off her clothes, to lean over the fence. The photograph contains its history—the moment the woman unbuttoned her shirt, how she felt, what the photographer said. The price of the magazine is a code that describes the relationships between all these people—the woman, the man, the publisher, the photographer—who commanded, who obeyed. The cup of coffee contains the history of the peasants who picked the beans, how some of them fainted in the heat of the sun, some were beaten, some were kicked. For two days I could see the fetishism of commodities everywhere around me. It was a strange feeling. Then on the third day I lost it, it was gone, I couldn’t see it anymore.”

I have managed to get my hands on a computer that can edit video again, so I’ve been posting a bunch of my old recordings, and more recent ones!
I will also post the final image here later.
Pride's not over yet! @chardove, thanks for sticking with me and being so great, my lovely. I'm so excited to move forward into our future with you, and looking to many more years with you! There aren't words to encapsulate how precious you are to me. <3

This feels like the visual sequal to One Wounded.
You got ur battered badass leaning against a compositionally central object, v stylish boots, similarly positioned arms, 0-fucks-given attitude, lighting from the upper left (I think) and the leafy background. And the blood. Lots of it.
It's just great and also, lying off screen somewhere is some poor fuck's crushed and broken body bc it looks like Toecrusher saw some action. Fewer bodies, but just as scary.
Thank you for the reassurance that tracing is alright, I've always had a bit of a hangup about it but when I draw from reference I always get something about the proportions wrong unless I have it over the drawing semi-transparent instead of just having it to the side. Like, the side by side thing gets it looking like the original still, but there's always certain parts that are just a bit too wide or a bit too squashed because of the way I focus on things
This is how I feel about accuracy…
You don’t need to be accurate to make good art. It’s way more important to be consistent, to be conscious of your choices, and to know why you’re making them. That’s where style and individuality come from. That’s what makes the art yours.
But if you are trying to develop accuracy skills so that you have more choices, then do whatever you need to make room for those choices. The entire point of art, at least in my opinion, is that you care about yourself.
So I mean. Tracing can be bad if you’re using it to skip over that, you know? If you’re not caring about what you do or not giving yourself choices, then you’re limiting yourself.
Use tools in ways that make you stronger.
Jumping in here, I just wanted to drop my two cents about tracing. My mentor always told me tracing is a great way to learn, and it is! If you find yourself having hangups about a particular subject, trace it! It helps you work out the problem areas and work out the kinks in your process.
But like Elicia said, don’t learn to rely on tracing alone. It is limiting to rely on that instead of developing your own technical skills and powers of accurate observation.
I myself will sketch my gesture or base over my references, especially if I’m doing a study, and then I will cover it up with an opaque layer so all I have is my base sketch, and the same reference off to the side. From there I will soley use that reference, no tracing, unless I really hit a problem area. I’ve found it’s a good balance of using tracing as a learning tool without being too reliant on it.
(I also wanted to add that @aerorwen once gave advice to an anon wanting to know how to get better at drawing their ocs consistently. Their answer was to learn the face by tracing over your own drawing of that oc, in addition/combination to exercises like the 25 expressions meme. It’s honestly been the best advice I’ve ever seen for drawing ocs. It blew my mind, and my ocs have gotten much more consistent, so yeah. Tracing is A-Ok.)
