I’d like to extend my most sincere condolences to the friends and families of the student whose lives were cut short in the tragedy in California.

Ashley Donohoe , Olivia Burke, Eimear Walsh, Eoghan Culligan, Niccolai Schuster, and Lorcan Miller, may you all rest in peace. My thoughts are also with those in hospital at the moment with life-threatening injuries after the accident. UCD has opened a Book of Condolences on its website

May I please also ask people in Ireland NOT to buy The Irish Examiner or The Irish Star tomorrow.

The two newspapers both have photos (close up and far away) of the deceased students in body bags on the ground as their front pages. They have no respect for the families and friends affected by this.

What happened is an absolute tragedy and should not be used for profit. They have put no thought towards the people who knew these students.

This is not what their families need to see.
