Writing your first chapter

Lately I’ve been getting a lot of DM’s asking on how to start a book, so here’s a checklist to help you guys out!

•Did you set the stage for the story? (Setting, weather, past, present, or future)

•Did you start with Danger, A flashback, A creepy or abnormal experience, or an unexpected perspective?

•Did you clearly introduce the protagonist?

•Did you determine your point of view and narrative voice?

•Did you determine a tense? (Past or present)

•Did you introduce a theme?

•Did you worry about likeability too much?

•Do you have too many stereotypes or clichès?

•Do you have a fair amount of action?

•Did you come up with a problem for your characters to solve?

•Do you have a strong idea of where you want the story to go?

•Do you have small details to make your story unique and special?

•Did you end with a hook?
