Freida Pinto for Interview Magazine August 2011
Charlie had just finished up a day of education at the local elementary school, and was carrying a large box full of wildlife pamphlets, conservation bracelets, hands and more. He was too busy admiring what an incredibly beautiful day it was, as he was staring up at the clouds with a wide smile and not watching where he was going when he felt himself collide with someone or something directly in front of him. His box of goodies fell, scattering every which way, and heard the unknown person speak minor apologies and shook his head, feeling like a clumsy moron.
"Oh shit, I’m so so sorry, no it’s my fault, "Charlie began to blabber, quickly kneeling down to help the woman when he looked up and saw her face. She was incredibly beautiful and he was at a loss for words. His mouth gaped open and closed as it seemed he had lost his ability to speak. Instead he stared and began to grasp at his things awkwardly.
"Perhaps it is both of our faults," She said to him, admittedly, casually grabbing her belongings and shoving them back into her bag. "We should always look what is ahead of us while we're walking." She looked over to him and managed to return a smile. He looked familiar, someone who worked in the building. Couldn't be a teacher, never have she has seen him in the meetings. If he was a teacher, she would have noticed, or another teacher would have pointed him out to her eventually. Nadia brought the strap over her shoulder again and helped the man place his packets and other items back into the box. "I hope you didn't exactly have everything in order... Organizing everything in that box again would just be exhausting..."
Looking at the packets, they all seem to be all about the same matter. Plants, the rain forest, and other wildlife matters. "Are you the new biology teacher, or substitute teacher here...?" Nadia said a bit confused. "Well, I mean..." She pointed at the box with all of his paperwork and little bracelets. "From all of that,"
Travis had been walking home from his long day at his job as a journalist for the local newspaper when he passed by the schoolhouse. He sighed when a few children ran past him on their way home, just narrowly missing him, and wondered why he took this route home. Travis wasn’t exactly the biggest fan of little children, so he just tended to shrug them off. They weren’t worth getting upset about.
As he was focused on not running into any kids, someone smacked directly into him. Travis turned his attention to whoever had just ran into him and rolled his eyes when he heard her apologize. “I can see that,” he muttered under his breath. The boy hesitated a bit before bending down to help her gather her things. “Watch where you’re going next time,” he said a bit harshly.
The tone of his voice surprised her. He could of been a little bit more understanding, but the world is a very surprising place. Everyone isn't the same, and that makes everything different. Nadia nodded, trying to bite back some words that she would have probably pointed out about his rudeness. But, she was the one who after all bumped into him. "Thanks," Nadia finally said while he was helping her pick up her rolling writing materials from the dirty ground.
"Sorry, that was totally my fault. I've had such a day and I honestly just want it again. I hope I didn't hurt you or anything? I mean by... From the impact." Shut up Nadia, just shut up, the woman said to herself. She would have literally head palm herself, but she would of embarrass herself even more. From behind her, she was hearing her name being called from the little children, telling her to have a good evening and that they'll see her tomorrow morning. Even a few teachers even waved her good bye. "I eh, I work here."
Once the school bell went off, Nadia was the first to head out of those large wooden doors of her classroom, dodging every child that ran past her. "No running through the halls!" Nadia shouted before she placed her fingers on her temples, beginning to rub them gently. She adjusted the strap of her semi large cloth bag that was filled with ungraded paper work that was digging into her shoulder.
Not watching where she was going while trying to search for her car key in the large bag, she accidently bumped into someone in front of her, making her drop her bag. Having pens and pencils rolling out of her bag along with dropping her keys. "Sorry, I can be clumsy sometimes..." Nadia admitted while she was pulling some hair strands behind her hair.
"I’m not saying you should order the pie, but you should definitely order the pie."
"What exactly is in the pie...?"
"And so the sun has suddenly appear. Thank the gods," The Native said to herself while looking at her own reflection through the pond. It was a long week in the dangerous that she was hoping to never go through again. But, luckily she had the help of others to make the process not incredibly stressful.
HARRY POTTER HISTORY MEME: [1/3] Historical Witches: Circe
"Circe was a witch, who lived in ancient Greece, specifically the island of Aeaea. She enjoyed transfiguring lost sailors into pigs."
Tink nodded in understanding as Nata spoke of the other world. she’d been there with Peter many times before, flying away and bringing home new children to take on wild adventures through the Neverland with. When times were more innocent, the second star to the right was not such a dangerous place to venture through. “I know it. The land where time moves and people age.” A horrendous land full of poverty and war, a land she hoped Neverland would never become. Reaching the pond, Tink slipped off her boots and never one to be shy or self conscious, allowed her long dress to fall from her petite frame so that she may enter the pond, naked. “Did you come here to escape the violence?” Tink asked, back to the woman as she stepped into the water.
Nata nodded, following the glowing white-haired woman next to the pond with the magical water. She dipped her legs into the water, and rubbed her legs with her hands to clean off the dirt of her feet and legs. "Yes, we did. The weather was terrible, and our tribe was always under attack by the surrounding tribes. Not only that, there was people from our lands declaring that they have discovered our land, and claiming as their own. They were also very violent. Men with guns, bringing their diseases from their hands over to ours."

Gaining Alliance // Nata + Chua
Nata should make no mistake that Chua had changed very little, it was the shift in his emotions that bothered him. He had been a certain way for centuries and there was no guarantee he would ever lost certain aspects of his personality. No one had ever cared for him, nor looked after him. He had always been an outcast, even in his own tribe. He was the lone wolf, the shadow in the dark that needed no companion.
The Warlord dropped his hand slowly, “He will need much healing, for they were forceful with the boy.” The native was sure Nata would understand what he meant. He turned back toward some of the male villagers, then to Nata. “Four men at each entrance of the village, two on each. I do not know how long the black will last.” Chua told Nata, then headed toward her hunt and ducked inside. Chua sat in front of her fire, secretly pleased that she now keep it burning at all times, and waited for her to join him.
Nata felt sorry for the little boy, worried that what he had to go through would have destroyed him. She honestly just hoped that whatever happened to him will turn into into a very powerful man once he grows. "How tragic," The chief said to him. It was better now that the little boy is back, his parents as being very worried, and now they have their son back. If Nata's child was kidnapped, she would search for her kid night and day, and will kill anyone who gets in her way. This was why she is somewhat terrified of having children of her own, because not only does she must worry about her people, but also the safety of her family. Nata will go crazy if her children were taken from her. It was every parent's fear.
Once he walked away, she had the vibe that he wanted her to follow. And when he went into her hut, it convinced her. She pulled up the covering and walked into the hut, sitting across from her over the fire. She pulled her hands out, feeling the warmth on her hands. "I remembered what you said about always keeping the fire lit. Since then, I haven't let it burn out."
Gaining Alliance // Nata + Chua
Chua was the last one to enter the camp when the party returned. He heard Nata giving orders about shifted watches through the night. The hunters tossed the severed heads they had been carrying into a pile in the middle of the village for all to see. The Warlord walked up to Nata, his eyes focused on her as he carried his own prize, then tossed it in the pile with the rest of the heads. He was once again covered in blood, and thought nothing of it when he turned his attentions back to Nata, and to the body that lay at her feet.
"These were all we found, and a boy." The native commented, his voice much rougher than usual. Chua saw the wound on Nata’s neck and his eyes softened as he stood right in front of her and examined it carefully. One could say that the native had almost shown concern in his eyes. He was unfamiliar with how it felt to care for someone else’s well being, and yet there he was, feeling it all the same and became slightly angry at it. He was not supposed to care for a woman, he had always viewed them as lesser than a man, incapable of being a warrior. But clearly his encounter with Tink, and now Nata, was quickly shifting his views. As his hand was examining her cut, his thumb swept across his cheek, "Are you hurt my dan?”
She didn't realized how many heads they were until she looked down closer, it was plenty and she was wondering if there was enough sticks to place them on. She liked the way how he was adjusting to cultural by taking the enemy's head prizing it on a stick, to show the strength and fearlessness. "Impressive," The chief said to her men, and they even managed to smirk a little bit when their chief was approving of their work. "You have all been brave and strong. You shall all be rewarded in due time," In due time, meaning when the sun rises up again and everything is back to normal again. She never lies, and that was a promise she was giving to her hunters. They have kept the tribe safe as much as they can, and she is very thankful for that. Even with Chua, he impressed her in ways she will not admit yet, but in her eyes tells for her.
Chua has changed in only a matter of days, and so did Nata's views on the man as well. She hated him, everything about him. But, now it seems that whenever she tries to push him away, she is only getting closer to him. She moves, he moves. "I am well, it's only just a little scar." She admitted, placing her hand gently on the top of his on her cheek. "How is the boy? I didn't get a very good look at him,"
"They don’t all hide. Some are brave, many are in fact. The cowards will be long dead, now." She spoke without mercy, eyes grey and lifeless despite an animated face. Tink was a rather unforgiving person - and she had little time for cowardice. Tink looked down at her hands, bloodied to the elbow from her digging about within intestines, ribcages, ending with a heart in her hands. She picked up the trophy and nodded before standing. She supposed she should clean, the woman known all over the island surely couldn’t be seen in such a state, much as she enjoyed the blood. She joined Nata, knowing the pond she spoke of and moving in its direction. "Tell me of your tribe."
Nata rubbed the blood that was on her hands on the fur of her coverings, and then started to walk into the direction of where she said the pond was at. This pond is very spiritual for her tribe. Whoever bathed or drinks from the water of this pond will be healed from all injuries and will live a very strong and meaningful life. "As you may know, my tribe and I are not from here. We're from another world that changes seasons, and violence was what we had to face for many generations." Talking about the history of her tribe will be quite a lot for Nata. She was going to talk further more about it, but she had realized that she stopped before the death of her parents, and when she became the chief.
Gaining Alliance // Nata + Chua
Chua led the other hunters deep into the woods, guiding them with his night vision as they moved. They eventually stumbled across a small band of pirates who had caught a member of his town tribe, a small boy who was perpetually the tender age of nine. He was beaten bloody and the men of the seas were taking turns violating him. The native knew the boy would never be the same, and his growled as he held his palm out, ordering his own hunting party to stop. Only one of them would escape with their lives tonight. The Warlord silently gestured the other natives to surround the pirates, leaving no option to escape.
Their hoots and laughter did nothing but breathe more fire into the Warlord’s belly, and one would not want to be on the end of his wrath, Chua signaled and the hunters released their spears, impaling three of the men, why the rest charged in with this machetes and axes. Thought the execution was too slow for Chua’s liking, the result was more than adequate for them. They did not hold back their own rage as they slaughtered the men.
Chua ordered the hunters to hold the pirate that looked like he was leading the others. Eventually the native slowly emerged out of the darkness and slowly began his walk toward the soon to be dead pirate. As the hunters held him down, Chua ordered one of them to collect the boy and returned him to Nata. He would need the best healer if he was to survive. The native said not a word as he stopped in front of the kneeling man and stared him down as if trying to burn a hole right through him.
He ordered the others to release the man and they complied, stepping back. "Please, please don’t kill me..he was trying to steal from us, we were.." The pathetic pirate began to beg, but Chua felt nothing, and did not want to hear his pleas. The Warlord commanded the man up with a loud roar. A beastly roar and the pirate fell back, shaking like a frightened child, his bowels releasing out of fear and terror. "I said STAND!" The Warlord said again and the pirate scrambled to his feet. Chua wanted the last thing the pirate saw, was his eyes before his death.
Without another word or expression, he grabbed him by the throat, lifted him off the ground and sliced his sharp dagger, the one he had been holding since he emerged from the vegetation, across the man’s torso. Bloody intestines poured out and onto the lush grass, a look of terror and disbelief spread across the pirate’s face.
"Take all their heads..but leave one. Let him return to his Leader." Chua ordered as he replaced his dagger and pulled out his axe to decapitate the still breathing pirate. He would return to the village with his souvenirs.
She could only wonder what was currently going on, what her men has to face in the darkness, and not seeing anything or anyone around them. This curse, whatever it was, it was affecting everything and everyone. It reminded her of the times back in her other world. 30 days of night, it's usually the most brutal months of the year. While everyone was inside one large tent, trying to sleep while their mates were off to hunt, Nata stood in front, guarding the hut to make sure no one would enter if they were an outsider. The night was quiet, and nothing moved. It was a very unpleasant feeling and placed the Chief in a very off edge feeling. She held two spears in her hands just in case something were to approached, but it was completely dark and she could barley see that was in front of her.
Until she heard movement, someone running towards her. She held out her spear, getting ready to strike until her name was shouted. It was a little boy, a child she has grown to love and adore since his birth. The sighting of him was unimaginable, and she couldn't present him to his mother in his condition. But, she must -- since he has been missing since the sun set, saying goodbye to the island and welcoming the darkness. The little boy ran towards her, wrapping his arms around her for comfort. She quickly dropped her weapons to return his hug, placing one hand on the top of his head and her free arm still wrapped around him. She leaned down, balancing herself on her knees to be at the same level of the little boy. "You're okay now. You're home, and you will be treated. Get inside of the hut, and promise me to stay quiet no matter what you hear from outside. Do you hear me?" Nata said to the boy, putting both of her hands onto his shoulders before she dismissed him and opening the hut's covers to have him enter.
If he escaped, who else did? Nata picked up her spears again and held onto the tightly, worried about what else would appear in the darkness. She heard screams, unsure if there were the screams of her people, or from the enemy. Without even realizing, a man approached her from the back and grabbed her by the neck with his arm. He whispered some things into her ear that she couldn't fully understood. The man was dirty, and smelt like he hasn't bathed in weeks -- must be a bloody pirate. He eventually poked a dagger upon Nata's neck, pricking her skin slightly once he placed pressure. The chief grunted a little, struggling to get out of his grip. The one thing she hated was to be manhandled, that is the one thing that really ticks her off.
The pirate must be a fool, not seeing the spears that was in her hands. As he spoke, talking about the most disgusting things that he was going to do to her, she positioned the spear so that it was facing towards herself, the sharp end of the stick facing her body. When she couldn't deal with his disgusting lips over her neck, and his hands exploring over her body, she stabbed the pirate in the gut. And once he did, he sliced her in the neck as well, making her draw blood as well. The man loosened his grip, and Nata quickly turned around, removing his arms off of her neck. She dug in the spear more into his body, not caring if she was pressuring any of his important organs that will keep him alive. He touched her without her permission, and he shall be punished for. Nata looked at the man directly in the eyes, watching him die. She wanted to make sure she was the last thing he saw when his heart stopped.
Once the pirate finally died, that was when the hunters came back to the tribe, and Nata ran over to the men to greet them, checking if there was any injuries on them. The woman walked over to him and stood close to him. "Is anyone injured?" The woman said to him. When she faced the other men, they pointed out her wound that was on her neck and nodded. Telling them that it was just a scratch when clearly it wasn't. "We're going to need people to take shifts of guarding."
