My main artistic interests include bats/chiropterology, non-human characters, Gravity Falls (specifically Bill), Nuclear Throne/Gun Godz (specifically YV), both combined in @love-triangles-au, Flatland, anthros, geometric shape characters, imaginative realism, and a lot more! Feel free to send me requests regarding any of these things, I love them!

Hello there, welcome to my Tumblr! I’m Emily, a polite Canadian with a love for art, science, and a little bit of everything else. As my username suggests, I’m deeply enraptured by chiropterology, having begun working with the Vancouver Island Community Bat Program when I was 15. I am trained to handle bats, was apprenticed by a local biologist, and assisted in keeping track of local populations as well as educating the public about our dear flying friends.
I’m a positive and super nerdy person. I love sunshine, cuddles, parties and bright colors just as much as I love deep-dives into Wikipedia, biology, philosophizing, and poking dead things. My mindset hinges on a marriage between logic and kindness, as I believe kindness IS logical! I’m deeply empathetic, introspective, and believe in compassion and the goodness of people, so I’m pretty chill and friendly. I always strive to assume the best of others as I hope that is what others will do for me in return; I’m autistic and so do not always understand social rules, so being shown good faith is something I consider invaluable. If you ever wanna chat, nerd-out, or just say hi, go for it! I really do love people, though I've been dealing with extreme mental health struggles for the past few years so I apologize that I tend to disappear. <3
About This Blog:
This blog aims to be a place for me to share my art. Perhaps the occasional status update will pop up, but generally I aim to just give you what you followed for! No politics, divisive topics or the like; you don’t wanna see it and I’m too anxious for it. My reblogs are over at @batsylabs so follow me over there to see top-tier memeage and posts from my awesome friends.
I've got a semi-realistic/imaginative realist art style that serves as a love letter to the natural world, with a focus on the diversity in animal anatomy as well as the expressive nuances of color and the magic of light (or, to put it simply, I draw a lot of different animals and love throwing saturated colors everywhere). I love using the tools and mechanics of the natural world to make fantastical subjects and places feel tangible, inspired by how impossible so many things in our world might seem to an outsider — magic is just science we don't understand yet! However I love all kinds of art and hope to experiment a lot more when I’ve refined my main style.
I also draw a lot of fan-art. Like a lot. My favorites right now are Gravity Falls, specifically Bill Cipher, specifically my @love-triangles-au, and Flatland (primarily the novel, the 2007 Film and my original interpretation) but I have a good deal more!
Being hyperfixated on Bill for so long (about eight years so more of a special interest at this point) has done really weird things to my brain and now I also just genuinely love geometric shapes in general, especially “anthropomorphic” ones like him, which is ironic because I’m quite terrible at math. i would freak out if i met a tetrahedron irl omgg
I’m deeply pretentious passionate about art’s technical and philosophical aspects, too. Like just everything about it really; I’m not just an artist I’m very much an art nerd. My personal definition of art is that if at least one person feels it’s art, then it’s art. I feel everything is art, and therefore by my own logic everything is art! From the most abstract of modern pieces to the intricate worlds toiled over detail by detail to the pencil you chew on when you’re trying to solve an equation to the blue shadows cast by telephone poles, it has value if someone’s willing to find it.
About Requests:
I really love these and I’m always open to them, ESPECIALLY ones about my favorite fandoms/interests! Shoot me an ask if you’d like, I don’t bite and honestly the sentiment would make my day! :Dc
DO NOT INTERACT:
- If you don’t want to

Pitched the second img to the Flatland server and @mintytrashcannot suggested red galaxy !! Like redshifting !! I thought it was genius so tested it out with a meme that @cosmomatic sent and I'm a big fan, v fun to draw. I love u Spherius they could never make me hate u Spherius 1 billion kisses
Almost forgot lol Magma dump two !! Movie and novel stuff. Guide under the cut
2. It was bugging me that lipstick is the Movie universe's gender dimorphism so everyone gets it now
3. My take on the Sphereland novel's Hex and Puncto! Still adore the transfem Hex headcanon a lot
7. I love love love love Archimedean solids I love them so much! Here's a truncated tetrahedron, truncated cube, truncated cuboctahedron, and truncated dodecahedron. I'm probably going to keep the t. cuboctahedron I like him a lot
8. Chromatistes! The Magma likes pairing him with circles so I hopped on board; I think it'd be funny if that one circle like fell in love with him after quitting politics to become an artist
10. It's genuinely kind of important to their story that I figure out how to make them cuddle. Took me way longer than it should have
12. Initial sketch for that lil comic I did! I started and then realized I wanted to make it much bigger
Finally got all the way through the Sphereland movie, didn't find it as bad this time around probably because Minty was keeping me company and she makes everything better
That being said I really think it would have benefited from more characterization! It sounded like Hex was dealing with a LOT of feelings but it wasn't really unpacked; I think she could use a pep talk from an oldie to soothe some of that classic young adult neuroticism (but perhaps I'm projecting just a little)
OMG! Place I've been jumpscare; this is Vancouver's Chinatown! My dad and I saw it on a walk and we both thought it was awesome, so I drew it for him when we got home. This is circa March 2021. What a crazy coincidence!
I was complaining to @mintytrashcannot about running out of ways to draw limbless orbs and she just busted out these absolutely wonderful "anthro" designs out of nowhere cause she's the best. I was up super late that night doodling them and haven't stopped thinking abt them
Like WHALE SPHERIUS?? HELLO??? 🥺🥺💞💖💞 I think she did it better than me but hopefully u see the vision. I made him an outfit just so he feels included he's prob gonna stay nakey so he can go Bakugon mode
Another big ol' Flatland sketch dump! Explanations beneath the cut
1-2: movie/film style swap! I believe this was @random1089's idea, and then @mossy-the-thing named them S. Sphere and Ater which I love. It was really dang hard designing Ater, Spherius has too kind a face for somebody like A. Sphere so I needed to change basically everything lmfao. Thought it'd be cool to give him a more fiery sun motif since Spherius is kind of a gentle star, but because there are no other Spacelanders in that movie I had v little to work off of. As for S. Sphere, I debated the glowy eyes but could so clearly envision it as a choice by an amateur 3D modeller with no aesthetic sense, like it's lowk OG Roblox core
3: just a funny lil interaction of Atticus and Angelus in the multiverse scenario. I think it would rlly bring out the worst of all of them tbh
4-5: mostly just having fun thinking about Spaceland ergonomics. Their furniture must be wild
6: that evening's Magma activity was drawing extra cunty A Spheres yk the usual
7: brainstorming Spacelanders in my style!
8: Film A Square's incredibly lame fantasy
9: a bonus B Square design to go with my recent A Square redesign
10-11: more post-war AU stuff, building off of @cosmomatic awesome scenario where these four are just kinda stuck together now which goes so hard. I posted this on my side-blog but lowk love it too much, go check out that post for more context and also Charlie's fantastic art

I've almost finished moving! We're just waiting on the internet router's replacement cable which has like quite literally taken all month cause Rogers sucks. I've got my space mostly set up and am really looking forward to drawing in it! Speaking of which I've switched back to CSP because Krita's painting engine is just a little bit shitty, which sucks because I preferred basically everything else about it, but my art was def getting worse bc of it so it had to go </3 I miss her.....🥀🥀
Some slight redesigns! I realized the twinge of dissatisfaction I had with the earlier A Square was that the values were too close-together and just monochrome palettes generally aren't to my tastes. In contrast I tried to unify Angelus's palette a little more too and adjust the values but I just. man I already love him too much. So he gets both yay
Also used the opportunity to practice eyes! I'm quite happy with them, I feel like they're a lot more distinct with a lot more soul
me when my ellipsoid is barney or whatever (i saw him and wanted to draw him idk)
Omg!! Oh what a fantastic surprise, thanks so much Mossy I absolutely adore it!! 🥺🥺 Him big silly blue eye. dodge ball sfx
Giving me a great excuse to debut this guy on Tumblr dot com as well! Lore dump beneath the cut
Might ditch the lab coat, haven't decided yet
Barney is a story character and serves as a foil to Angelus. He's a good-natured scientist (not sure which kind yet) with an interest in Flatland, but, unlike Angelus, is very professional and by-the-books and believes that regulation is necessary to keep things ethical. He very much doesn't agree with Angelus's decision to throw out the rule book and kidnap a Flatlander.
More importantly, though, he witnesses what the relationship between the two has become and sees it for the unethical disaster that it is. He comes along right as Angelus is entering the low point of his arc (Angelus wants to be the Flatland guy, but if Atticus is able to speak for himself, there is no need for him. So he stifles Atticus's growth on purpose to keep him reliant) and offers Atticus a way out. Unfortunately, Atticus is far too attached.
I haven't really figured out what happens next, but Barney is very much an ellipsoid for a reason — Angelus was not born a sphere! His parents were ellipsoid and he was, too, but managed to get "corrected" at a young age. I'm thinking it could be fun for Angelus to show some bigotry of his own, just to really hammer in that Angelus is not all that far removed from constructs of hierarchy as the Flatlanders he studies.
Anywhoozle, thanks so much again for the art, it put a big smile on my face! Everyone go check out Mossy's blog, we've been having loads of fun in the Flatland community Magma together grins
