Taishou Roman Osomatsusan tapestry (2016 october)

Taishou Roman(大正浪漫) refers to a trend of thought and culture in the Taishou period in Japan (the era from 1912 to 1926).

Osomatsu - policeman (in those days, they carried Japanese swords.) Karamatsu - bankara (male student put on Geta/Japanese style wooden clogs in combination with western style school uniform as fashion is called Bankara, rough and uncouth style with the atmosphere of rudeness.) Choromatsu - Japanese army (Japan entered the WW1 on the Allies side in 1914.) Ichimatsu - student (male student who was called Shosei, usually put on western style shirt in combination with kimono wearing a school cap.) Jyuushimatsu - Jananese navy (at that time, navy’s entrance exam was highly competitive.) Todomatsu - haikara gentleman (the word, Haikara, it was used to mean westernized appearances or lifestyles. the word Bankara[Karamatsu’ s style] means rude or barbarous was created as an antithesis of Haikara. )

This article on a blog about anime sequels dissects the possibility of an Osomatsu-san continuation (be it TV series or OVA) from measuring up its various sales (home video, Dramatsus, etc.) and popularity.

They also watch the amount of secondary creations by fans for each character and the show itself.

Some of the info in the article is out of date or yet to be brought up to current trends, so video and fanart popularity for the “Stockmatsu” may also be taken with a grain of salt (and should anyway, it shouldn’t affect your personal preferences).

The TV Tokyo remarks are also examined, from the “We never said it would just be two cours” to the immediate follow-up comment that regardless of any continuation, the series would end in March.

The different possible sequel hints in ep.25 are also laid out, from “two in fall”, “movie and stage in July”, and “Second broadcast decided!”.
