Noodles & Butter For One
I'd never even heard of noodles and butter until I watched the Steven Universe episode Onion Friend, and I immediately Googled it to discover to check that yes, it is in fact exactly what it sounds like.
Oh, it’s just a little dish I like to call ‘Noodles & Butter’.
I really wanted to try it, so I ended up smushing together a recipe using a few different ones on the internet (the most influential recipe was this one, because one of the commenters mentioned their kid’s additions which ended up totally making the dish). When I asked my partner if he wanted to try noodles and butter he refused, which is why this is 'for one'! He lacks the adventurer's spirit.
Ingredients
1 cup of noodles (think shells, spirals or macaroni)
1 cup of cold water
A pinch of salt
1 teaspoon of butter (more if you'd like it!)
Optional extras: 1/2 teaspoon of chicken salt, 1/2 teaspoon of pepper, a couple shakes of Kraft's Grated Parmesan Cheese (it’s that crazy powdered jar cheese)
Directions
Put the noodles, water and salt into a microwave safe bowl. Stir a little to combine.
Microwave your noodles on high for about eight to twelve minutes (you can also do it in two minute intervals to check on it regularly if you haven’t cooked pasta in your microwave before) until they’re cooked. If the pasta runs out of water before it’s cooked, add a couple more tablespoons of water to the bowl.
Remove the bowl and strain the noodles, then pop the noodles back into the bowl.
Slice the butter into about five gobs on top of the noodles. Wait until it's melted then stir it through the pasta.
Add any optional extras you’d like and serve!
Final thoughts: I tried the straight noodles with butter and even though most of what I eat is really plain (I'm from the Jerry Seinfeld school of 'none of my food may ever touch') I couldn't handle it. Food is nothing without seasonings! But with a bit of pepper, some chicken salt and Kraft's weird parmesan-in-a-jar it was pretty yummy. 10/10, would try again! Serves one.
