"Coming off our first practice and there was, like, 500 people surrounding Crosby. He started talking to me a little bit. He's super down-to-earth. Gives the time of day to anybody. And someone that I'm super happy I got experience being around."

Taryn Bray: So Nicky, when you go back home, whatâs your favorite place to go?
Nicklas Backstrom: I would say my house, actually. I like it there.
Taryn Bray: Do you have a favorite holiday that is Swedish specific?
Nicklas Backstrom: I think my favorite is Swedish midsummer. And thatâs a big celebration we have last weekend in June. Thatâs usually when it is. Have a big celebration where⊠yeah, we do all this crazy stuff, weâre running around a big pole like dancing and stuff, so. Itâs just this weird tradition we have, but. Itâs a lot of fun.
Nicklas Backstrom: I Like To Stay In My House. Sometimes I Run Around A Big Pole For Fun. (indicates with facial expression how much fun he has)

everybody take a break from the horrors
look at buckles shoving fries into boulier's mouth with me instead

A conversation I had at work in Mississippi.
*Guy walks up to me in a Penguin's hat*
Me: You're penguins fan?
Him: Yeah!
Me: I'm a Capitals fan myself.
Him: Eww
Me: Eww
Him: Eww
Me: Eww
Him: *laughing* have a great day!!
Me: Yeah, you too!
Bow down to the rat king!
Q: Is there a moment in one of the Stanley Cup celebrations that was a standout to you?
Ian Cole: Thereâs a lot of them. What rating does your podcast have? (Weâre triple X, so go for it!) Well, I probably have some of those too to be honest (laughs).
But it was a lot of fun. Kinda the Penguins tradition is to take the Stanley Cup into the pool, right, whether itâs at Marioâs house or Sidâs house. And the first year, we were at Marioâs house and Sid was like, âYeah, letâs go take this in the poolâ. And the cup handlers were there⊠They were like, âNo, weâre not going into the pool this year. Donât even think about it. Weâre definitely not going into the pool. We canât have it filled with water at the bottom of the pool again, Sidâ.
And Sidâs like, âOh, totally. Yeah, weâre definitely not doing thatâ. And theyâre like, âNo. Seriously. Weâre not going into the poolâ.
And heâs like, âNo, no, definitely not. Iâm just gonna go and grab a drinkâ. So he grabs the Cup, went in, grabs a drink. A couple of minutes later, he walks out in his bathing suit. And he walks straight to the pool and jumps in. (laughs)
So they were just like, âOh god *facepalm*. What are we doinâ? Weâre back in the pool again with the Cup.â
But luckily everyone was still coherent enough at that time to not let it sink to the bottom of the pool. Because the bottom on the cup isnât airtight, so when that thing fills with water, itâs full of water, and the waterâs not coming out very easily. So that 35 pound cup turns into about a 100 pounds when filled with water, and itâs tough to get out.
It was just a ton of fun in the pool. Mario was bringing out cases of Dom Perignon. Guys were spraying it everywhere. That pool was probably like, half-Dom Perignon by the end of the night.
...agent of chaos Sidney Crosby. also the next year, they jumped into the pool with the cup AGAIN (this time at Sidâs) - mario with all his clothes on.
I recently realized in light of the recent trade that this joke no longer works (this was made during the 2026 Winter Olympics courtesy of Bleacher Report).
Spot the difference between these photos level impossible
Really someone show me the difference
Uncanny
I got this idea at midnight and then stayed up til about 130 making it, if anyone can find the brad marchand 2020-2021 season headshot I will give you a kiss bc I tried for roughly an hour to find it
alt caption ideas:
- a study in breaking your nose
- they just get hotter as they age
- what if you had to watch the new rookies get drafted each year and think âwow they are so youngâ and think âdid I ever look like thatâ and the answer is yes yes you did. you were once 17 years old too and nothing bad had ever happened to you. you hadnât lost that person or lost that game or series or missed that shot or had that injury.
"We started in the room, got her sized up with the gear. She seemed to like it, so that wasn't an issue. We came out here, we threw some balls... took a little bit but she got the hang of it. We did a little bit of running, a little bit of weight lifting... There we go, stretch it out a little bit. What's this? Wanna do that...? It's okay. You don't have to lift weights as a goalie. No, no, no no. Just stop the puck. You're gonna do great, Logan Chompson. We're cheering for you."
Now Iâm thinking about the amount of work the caps put in to making people feel at home. Like if youâve ever had a new person come into your existing friend group or whatever it can be easy to unintentionally make them feel like an outsider. Thereâs actually so much effort and thought that goes into making sure that nobody feels excluded and I just think thatâs so impressive.
Like these guys are in super demanding jobs in an environment that encourages competition and theyâre still putting in the extra time and effort to build a community. Like osh talking about how ovi would sit with the new guys, and âwe want you babyâ and plds whole story about all the calls he got. Those are all active choices that might have been easier not to do but they did it anyway. And I just think that means a lot.
