honestly i don’t trust you if you don’t include addiction and addicts in your activism, if you don’t talk about the socioeconomic variables that play into addiction/addictive substance rates, the racial lines upon which people are arrested for drug related crimes, the percentage of the incarcerated, homeless, poor who ARE addicts, how drugs are marketed to the trans and gay and mentally ill and black and brown population as an ointment to the societal subjugation they face. addiction is a glue that binds all forms of oppression together and our responses to it but it’s either completely ignored in your activism or we’re vilified as selfish, pleasure seeking, unhygienic, etc etc. and even if we are that does NOT mean we are undeserving of your respect. we deserve your honest care and concern, we deserve the option to get help, and we deserve the option to STILL live comfortably if we don’t accept said help. that is the bare minimum every addict deserves and incorporating this advocacy into your usual mantra about so and so rights is what needs to happen from now on. you can’t say you care about poc or lgbt people or any demographic under the sun if you don’t care about the effect of addiction on its respective community and give it the attention that’s warranted
