Things that I knew about: that the mass incarceration of people in the USA , particularly black men, has direct ties to/is an extension of slavery.

I’m from Mississippi and it’s like this in my home town. Enslaved prisoners clean roadways, pick cotton, everything they’ve done since before slavery was supposedly ended. What they teach in schools is nothing but propaganda.

Hi, I've been waiting to send this ask anonymously because I'm uhh. A bit socially anxious.
I wanted to thank you. I'm a Black TTRPG player but I often felt nervous to put my experiences as a Black person into the characters I'd play at my tables. I felt like it was my responsibility to remain palatable and "good". Queer experiences, disabled experiences, neurodivergent experiences, etc. were all things I knew I could portray "safely", but of course, those all coexist with my Blackness in complex and beautiful ways. They cannot be talked about without one another.
But recently I made a character who reflects my experiences overcoming my internalized racism and the feelings I had growing up in a predominantly white community and having higher expectations and more rigid boxes placed upon me because of that. And because this character's Blackness is so central, I have been much more open about how I want them portrayed because I want to respect me and mine. And I refuse to let myself feel like I'm annoying or taking up too much space for doing so despite the instinct to make myself small. I'm still trying my best to be more assertive even if old habits make me feel like I'm being inconvenient.
The clear love you have for us and the desire you have to teach others how to portray us in a way that respects us and actively fights against racist stereotypes genuinely gave me a lot of confidence and a desire to portray my experiences because my Blackness and that of my characters does not make my characters somehow less relatable or less worthy of being treated with care and having our stories told. I don't want to be palatable, ever. I want to be me, and experience the joy of being me.
So thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I'm sorry if this message is a bit cheesy I'm actually on the verge of tears from emotion and anxiety haha.

Apparently some people still need to hear this so: using an 'ai checker' is still using ai. If you are feeding someone's fic to one of these checkers, you will still not be sure their fic is ai because they are not 100% accurate, but you can be 100% sure that you are using ai. For fic. Furthermore you are doing the work of an ai scraper for them. You are, personally, feeding the machine. There is no actual excuse for using an ai checker on fanfic as a hobby. YOU are the problem.
If you think a fic is ai, mute it and move on. That's it. That's all you do.
