I spent a couple of months this summer working for my good friends at Sleep Ninja Games, animating bunches of little pirate critters swinging and slashing and avasting and the like! It was officially released today by @cartoonnetwork Games.

Get it today on iOS and grab life by the cannon balls!

This is a short ‘un using the mouse rig from Animation Mentor. Sorry if anyone clicked my last post. I tried posting a gif of it but Facebook and Tumblr both threw fits so I took it down.

Trying out Rough Animator, another iPad app for animating. This one has layers and onion skinning, etc. it’s hard to draw accurately on an iPad, but it’s fun enough for a $3 app.

Giving a short talk about squash, stretch, and overlap tomorrow night at the Portland Indie Game Squad's talent talks. This is a visual aid I made for it.

Okay so It's not Citizen Kane

It's another loop. A quick jump. It's a little drifty at the end, but I just wasn't used to the frame rate. The Legs are funky, and I think what I learned there will stick with me whenever I go to animate a jump.

I'm Looping

There's this $1 iPad app called loop. It's for animation, but it's hard to draw in, has hardly any features, is a pain to use, and is riddled with bugs...

..all of which makes it the perfect app to whip out a quick practice sketch with. Here's my chintzy walk cycle from yesterday. I don't feel like I get enough practice with basics like these, so I'm going to try to use Loop more.

My final project for my Intro to Acting class at Animation Mentor. It may look rough to anyone who knows their cartoons, but I'm actually amazed it turned out as well as it did. Lip sync is tedious business, but interesting. When the class was over, I downloaded The Artist's Complete Guide to Facial Expression by Gary Faigin. The book was even more tedious, but it must have done the trick because I'm really stoked to attack my next project with lip sync.

Color and Composition

Ever since I read "The Noble Approach," a really fun book by Tod Polson that's filled with advice from master of animation design Maurice Noble, I've been wanting to try out some of what it teaches about color and composition.

This is based on a photo I took on a rainy night somewhere in Tokyo. Pretty much anything good about it can be attributed to that book :)
