I know the powers manifested after the Curtis parents died, that being the situation that got the ball rolling, but do you have any specific situations in mind for how each of the Curtis gang figured out their powers? Like did Darry accidentally go through the roof or smth?

For the power manifestation I feel like Darry might’ve grown until his head touched the ceiling when he found out, and then the officers (who I imagine in this world are trained to deal with power development situations like this) rushed to squeeze him through the front door where he continued to grow on the front lawn until he eventually calmed down enough to stabilize. Two-bit probably had an uncontrolled shift into another form and was unable to return back into his normal form for a while. I imagine it was pretty similar for all the others. (Dally setting things on fire, Steve becoming a human magnet, etc.)

Ahhhhh- okay that makes sense!!! I just got a mental image of a spoon flying at Steve-

Do you have an idea for how long the whole power thing had been affecting the world before then? Like was it something Darry was aware of that could possibly happen? Or was it something completely new?

I think it’s kinda like something that’s always been around? Idk, just for worldbuilding I feel like it would be easier if everyone already knew about it 😭✌️! I feel like maybe it’s something that’s always been around, but Darry never thought it would happen to him, yk? Like he’s heard about it happening to other people but he never thought he’d be one of those people.

Got it!! That’s going to make it easier to write lmao- 🤠

I think it’s going to take a bit of trial and error, since I normally write realistic fiction, but I’ll get there eventually!!

is there anything you’ve been itching to talk more about in the au? I’m completely okay with info dumping, I love love love when people give me all the little details and such

Ok! (Keep in mind I have really bad ADHD and my meds have worn off at this point in the day; so these may be all over the place).

Oh yeah, Darry did get revenge for when two-bit put him in a jar, since once two-bit made the mistake of shapeshifting into a mouse and Darry put him in the same jar he put Darry in when Darry shrunk. (Ik it’s so stupid but I just can’t let go of this joke I’m SORRY)

I also feel like Ponyboy loves to mess with Steve and make him think he’s losing his powers. Like, since Ponyboy can move objects with his mind and Steve can bend metal with his mind-I feel like multiple times Steve has started using his powers to bend metal in a certain way, only for Ponyboy to use his powers to stop the metal from bending all together. And then when Steve questions him Ponyboy just acts like Steve’s going crazy. (Pony hating Steve is canon and it’s so funny to me istg).

I also feel like Johnny’s shadow sometimes mocks Johnny. Like, yk how when a teacher is talking and sometimes a student will go and hide behind them and do like bunny ears or mimic them to make the class laugh without the teacher knowing? I feel like that’s what johnnys shadow does with him, where Johnny will be telling pony about how his parents treat him, and his shadows just doing some shit like putting fake bunny ears on his head or flexing behind him while Ponyboy is fighting for his life to not laugh.

Also, dally sets soda’s gloves on fire on purpose because he’s an asshole (joking don’t kill be I don’t actually hate dally). He doesn’t actually do it on purpose, but Sodapop had to get fireproof gloves after this incident to avoid accidentally reading someone’s mind/controlling their minds.

Dally can sometimes fly with his powers (yk how heat rises, so when his full body becomes basically a living flame he is able to fly).

That jar gag may just be my favorite thing- oh my goodness- 🤣

Pony hates Steve and Steve hates Pony. Do they have actual reasons? No. No they not. Yet they continue to get into situations like that where they just continuously mess with each other.

What if Johnny’s shadow is like an alter ego sort of thing? Like it’s the complete opposite of every single one of Johnny’s morals? I love that though- I need to draw that now-

Oh dear lord- and imagine the stuff he’d have to go through to get functional day to day gloves that were also fire proof? I can very much imagine Soda wearing those big clunky gloves fireman gloves until he can find something that’s more fitted.

Dallas mixed with flying would not be good for anyone except himself- that would just increase his no good intentions 😭

I know the powers manifested after the Curtis parents died, that being the situation that got the ball rolling, but do you have any specific situations in mind for how each of the Curtis gang figured out their powers? Like did Darry accidentally go through the roof or smth?

The book switches pov’s every chapter, allowing both narrators to give their thoughts. It follows Eddie and Danny, two teenagers living in 1983 Pennsylvania. Eddie is dealing with the grief of losing his mom, while also repairing the relationship with his brother. And Danny’s trying to make it without his older brother, who’s moved away. They both end up meeting and getting to know each other, as other situations unfold.
