“Thanks for the life advice, Kahlo. Much needed.” Chris gave her a curt nod and a fake smile, before diving back into his typing.
“One day you’ll be getting a pacemaker installed and you’ll think about me and what I said and how you didn’t listen.” Kahlo leaned forward slightly looking at the type of the page, “what class are you working on anyways?”
"Sociology," he said simply, completely ignoring her prior comment. "It's on poverty's effects on education." He shrugged a shoulder, trying to downplay his pride in his chosen topic.
“And I have a research paper to do,” he replied, narrowing his eyes slightly as Jaren scooched in closer. “I’m sure you have work to do as well.”
“Nope. Finished my last final yesterday,” He took another bite of the apple. “Well, the only one I really have to do, anyway. What’s the matter with lettin’ loose once in a while?” He rose a brow, looking from the computer screen to his freckled companion.
“I can let loose after I’m done with this paper,” he retorted, taking it as his cue to turn back to his computer. “You should study for your other finals. I can help, if you need it.”
Chris braced for his ear to be talked off as soon as he saw Jaren approaching. He accepted the offered apple graciously, placing it on the table next to his laptop. “You know I don’t do parties,” he responded simply, closing his computer as he turned to face Jaren.
“Don’t be so boring,” Jaren muttered, taking a bite of his apple before scooting closer. “It’s the end of the year, dude.”
“And I have a research paper to do,” he replied, narrowing his eyes slightly as Jaren scooched in closer. “I’m sure you have work to do as well.”
“I need a hero,” Jaren said, feigned hopelessness in his voice. “Just kidding. When are you not working on something?” He rose a brow, leaning forward and scanning over the text. “’Many school-aged students are affected by poverty depending on demographics and…’ Blah blah blah…” He trailed off, shaking his head and moving to sit down, offering Chris an apple before taking a bite of his own. “Are you going to the party next week? I just heard about it today.”
Chris braced for his ear to be talked off as soon as he saw Jaren approaching. He accepted the offered apple graciously, placing it on the table next to his laptop. "You know I don't do parties," he responded simply, closing his computer as he turned to face Jaren.

Wren: hey ily
Chris: What do you need?
“Somewhat confident.” Emilie said, doubt flooding her tone as she took the seat next to him. English had always come easy to her, but the last few weeks she seemed barely able to keep up with her usual work load in the midst of the unrelenting chaos that seemed to follow her in other aspects of life. “I haven’t found time to study recently. How about you? How are you feeling about your finals?”
"You don't sound sure," he said, giving her a dubious look. Chris wasn't the type to offer his assistance to strangers, but she seemed too polite and well-intentioned to let walk away. "I'm prepared for mine, so if you need any help.." He trailed off, eyes shifting to his computer keyboard.
I know that. What are you really doing?
Chris paused, turning to look at her, eyes narrowed. "A paper."
Putting her hand down, she stared at him for a second before rolling her eyes. “Alright.” She reached out in front of her, slightly bending forward as she reached for the item, getting in the way of his view from the screen.
Chris was content with her response until her torso suddenly blocked his view of the screen. His typing didn't falter, however, despite the blockage. "Wow. You've really inconvenienced me."
“Huh?” He looks up from the computer screen. “Oh, sorry, dude,” He says with a nervous laugh. “I was zoning out. You type fast. What’re you working on?”
Chris sighed, eyes traveling back to his screen as he resumed typing. "Research paper." After a pause, he reluctantly asked, "What about you?"
Upon entering the room, she scanned the area before noticing a black folder. Pointing towards it, she replied, “Yeah, I left something. Now, will you just give it to me?”
“Get it yourself,” he replied, not even bothering to glance away from his computer as he spoke.
“You look like you’re in intense thought. Are you preparing for your next kill?”
“Yeah,” he replied, narrowing his eyes. “So if you’d excuse me..”

No, not really. What are you typing?
“A paper,” he said blankly, not taking his eyes off his screen.
“Lovely to meet you then Chris.” Emilie responded, returning the smile. “Thank you.” She said, sighing in relief. “You are truly a life saver- or a grade saver for that matter.”
“Glad I could help,” he replied, turning back to his computer. He began to type, but after a brief pause, he turned back to her, raising an eyebrow. “How are you feeling about the final?”
