If you are a comics fan who has never worked in comics, and you think you know how the industry works, you're almost certainly wrong.Â
At least that's the conclusion I must draw after a couple days reading the comments. SMH!

Hey so I saw your post in the Gallifrey One tag and I don't have any experience with getting accommodation at the convention, but the staff and attendees are some of the kindest, most understanding people I've ever met. No one is judging and I think you will have a fantastic time at the event!
Thanks anon! To be honest, Iâve been pretty stressed about it and this is quite reassuring. Itâs nice to hear this, and it is definitely helpful!Â
I think thereâs some gally1 folks on the Fans For Accessible Conventions Facebook group
You might also try the #AccessibleCons hashtag on twitter for info gathering
Instead of saying something is in Godâs hands, say itâs in Groddâs hands. Because Grodd.
In Grodd we trust.
Calling all people with disabilities who attend conventions! Weâre trying to put the pressure on science fiction, fantasy, literary, fan, and comic conventions to add better accessibility to their events by encouraging people with all kinds of different disabilities to share their experiences on twitter under the hashtag #AccessibleCons
Share experiences, both negative and positive. Share your frustrations. Praise cons that are good about it. Show pictures. Make it personal. Anything we can do to boost the signal and get more cons to do the right thing!! impossible to post anything on tumblr without offending somebody
When I say âdiverse voicesâ in relation to comics, Iâm talking about the creative teams, not the characters.
I want to see more people of color, more women, and more LGBTQAI+ people having stories by them - their voices - published and widely distributed. I think this leads to fans having a better, more interesting selection of characters and stories because these creators are drawing from very different life experiences and perspectives. AND I think it is what the industry needs to stay alive. Thatâs what diversity in comics is. I think itâs kind of shitty that when I say âdiverse voicesâ, so many assume I mean, âwhite guys writing superficially diverse charactersâ. That does not even make sense. Also, I am not a writer. I am a graphic and sequential artist. If you are going to criticize my work, at least take three seconds to find out what the nature of that work is. Itâs not like Iâve made that hard to do.Â
Chris Jones, yâall. Being a good ally, right there.
Yes, if youâre upset about diverse characters that donât feel authentic (and you should be pretty much always if you pay any attention), look for more diversity/representation in the creative teams and in editorial. Those are the real voices in comics. Those are where we need the greater diversity. Itâs not âdiversity for diversityâs sakeâ. Itâs âdiversity for better characters and storiesâ.
I feel just a little bit left out sometimesâŠ
Iâm very pro LGBTQAI+, but the horrible troll part of my brain canât help but point out that thereâs a joke about color swatches to be had in here somewhere. Like you get all excited about seeing pride flags only to discover youâre actually just in the paint section of Loweâs.
(If someone wants to illustrate that, I wonât stop you.)
