background
born october 10, 1997. an autumn baby! a libra! libras are intelligent, kind and selfless, and i’m sure some people think minsoo’s like that!
an only child. when he was young, he was recruited to star in cfs and be a child model. his cute little face and friendly smile were so powerful!
he got his big break at age twelve and went from a vaguely familiar face to an award winning one. soon he gets launched into nation’s little brother territory. with more fame means more money and connections, so his family gets pushed up to upper class / upper middle class. an older actor on a drama he was in took a shine to him and got him a recommendation to get into hannam.
if his classmates had to describe him, they’d say he was cute and tall, but a little bit crazy eyed. kind of understandable, considering he spends more time filming and being driven to shoot sites than studying and sleeping. he’s bright and smiley and he’s always surrounded by friends and classmates, but he’s always so, so busy.
has a great public persona. good boy. positive energy. everyone’s mama in south korea wished he was her kid. but the THING IS, having a public persona means always being perceived. his childhood belonged to the public more than it ever belonged to him, and every moment he had was always shared with everyone else.
his line of successful dramas came to an abrupt end with a total FLOP of a drama as his first adult role. it does NOT draw favorable reviews. and as someone who has had his whole life measured across a yardstick for perfection, it really fucks him up! he has a massive meltdown that is kept a whole secret but his parents pretty much find him in his destroyed bedroom, screaming and crying and they’re like O.O
his parents decide they have no idea how to deal with him (not that they ever knew how to parent him) so they ship him off to the us of a for school and just not be a problem.
he finally graduated and came back in 2019 and his first role coming back is a risque villain role! it shocks everyone! like little minsoo??? being psychotic and sexy? WHAT? it makes big waves and shoots him back into relevancy
lowkey deep dives into some crazy shit and may or may not end up being the “muse” for this idol aka being fwb and inspiring a few cute love songs, but the REAL draw is a popular, explicit song about how is ass is magic or something. spiritually, i think of it as nct 127′s baby don’t like it because taeyong really. said all that over the sound of bed springs
he didn’t mean to, not really, but he loves the rush and high that comes from it. he still has a generally clean and positive image, just now more in the spotlight with the villain role, and it getting out that hes (1) gay as fuck and (2) did some not so rated pg things would really topple him down
fun facts
studied filmmaking abroad! he got to see the other side and got to spend four years without the pressure of acting. he really enjoyed his time abroad! he made friends, he had some level of anonymity, he got to spend time doing stuff he was interested in rather than as a job.
When she had learned someone famous like Minsoo was attending Hannam High at the same time she was, Ahreum had made it one of her absolute goals to befriend him. Or rather: “befriend” him. Air quotes and all. She couldn’t tell the difference. And not that it really mattered to her.
Call her selfish, but she had little interest in the man himself, drawn more to his status as a person – something of which she was more than happy to exploit to her own benefit just as she had with many before. Thus, it came as no surprise her time spent with him back then was purely superficial, a nod or two there to signal she was listening to his conversation ( hint: she wasn’t ) and falsify a friendship to outsiders ( hint two: she couldn’t care less about him ). Him moving away should have upset any other person deemed close to him, but for Ahreum, it was a shrug of her shoulder and camera trained on her next victim to leech off of. Minsoo was a blip in her timeline of “connections.” He could do whatever he wanted.
However, that connection came flooding back to the forefront of her mind when she spots him in the same vicinity as her, after her name was called by the other. Oh my god. Minsoo is back…! her mind screams, gears turning on how to make it about her in usual Ahreum fashion. So far? A faux “welcome home!” 15 second story to be posted in the next five minutes. An opportunity could not be missed. Wasn’t he even more famous now?
“MINSOO? IS THAT REALLY YOU?” she screams out in response, her hands going to her cheeks in surprise ( a shockingly genuine feeling this time around ) before she hurries over to him. Without asking for permission she reaches to poke his shoulder repeatedly, as if she was in disbelief he was truly there in the flesh in front of her. “Oh my god. It is. How long has it been? It’s felt like ages… Has it been? Pleaaaase. Tell me everything. What have you been up to? I swear I’ve seen your name around, but I had nooo idea you’d be here today. What a happy coincidence! We have sooo much to catch up on. Come on. You have time right? For your dearest friend Ahreum? It’s the least you can do, just spare me a few minutes. I’ll even get you something, I was waiting for my drink anyways. Come onnnnn. It’s free, from me! How could you resist!” There’s a whine emitting from her lips as she gently tugs at his sleeve, her head nodding towards the service counter behind them as she waits for his response.
Minsoo wasn’t a stranger to loud. Hell, he was loud, ever knowledgeable of the need to project so the sound people didn’t have to finagle mumbled lines out of the recorded audio. Yet there was something distinctly terrible about the way Ahreum’s voice managed to turn the street into an echochamber, letting everyone hear every enunciated syllable of her screeching hello. She reminded him of the one dimensional mean girls in American movies, just as pretty and just as disinterested in anyone but themselves. Minsoo shouldn’t be so harsh as someone who’s entire career meant having to pretend to care about things he really didn’t care about, but it felt especially disingenuous to see it in real life rather than behind a screen.
He knew, without really asking, that Ahreum wasn’t actually interested in his response to any of her questions. She never had been, even as high schoolers. It had taken too long for Minsoo to realize everything he said, from concerns he shared quietly to jokes he cracked between classes, went in one ear and out the other. Beyond what could be turned into the caption of an instagram post, Minsoo was rather sure Ahreum couldn’t even remember his dog’s name.
She was still single-mindedly stubborn, dragging him towards the service counter while going on about missing him ( right. ) and wanting to catch up ( riiiight. ) and being his dearest friend ( riiiiiiiiiiiight. ).
“Mmmhmm. You really don’t have to.” He wondered how much he should really respond considering she likely wasn’t actually listening. “I’ve been at college and I’ve been back for a bit now. As I’m sure you’ve heard.”
Minsoo didn’t hate people. Scratch that. Minsoo didn’t want to hate people. It took so much effort and time to hate someone. He much preferred just dislike people and to pretend those people didn’t exist. He was a great actor, it took very little effort to completely ignore someone’s existence and continue his life without a hitch. After all, he did that for four years with his parents.
In high school, Minsoo would never dare to be upset at anyone. Honestly, he was too tired to be. He liked being around people, even if they moved and shifted and changed with every school year. Ahreum had been, and still was, pretty as a picture. The two of them never had been close. They might have been, if things had been different. Sometimes during high school, they found themselves in each other’s orbit and Minsoo thought she had been nice, at first, until he realized she was really more interested in taking pictures with him for her instagram than in being friends. The two hadn’t kept in touch, especially when Minsoo decided to cut contact with nearly everyone he knew when he went abroad.
And yet.
He spotted her in the distance, far enough that they weren’t quite at the same place, but close enough he couldn’t actually run away. Ah, fuck. He forced a smile onto his face, eyes already peeled for that god damn cell phone. “Hi, Ahreum.”
