Hi, my name is Crystal. I consider myself to be an intuitive abstract artist. My work involves a great deal of playing with paint, both digitally and real paint. I love to challenge myself with new color palettes all the time and don’t think I’ll ever be able to be known for a body of work that’s super cohesive in color scheme, especially digitally 😅. That said, there are certain color schemes I find myself returning to again and again. Where I hope to stand out is in my brushwork and imagination and what unique experiences my work brings to each individual viewer and I enjoy so hearing about people’s experience with it! So feel free to share with me!

I treat tumblr as a bit of a sounding board for ideas and feedback, I love to do palette challenges so will host those whenever I’m itching to challenge myself in a new way.

I also post my studio art though I’ve been kinda absent in there lately. I need to fix that.

Most of the stuff I share here is for sale! If there’s something you really like, let me know! I’m still working on moving my website over to a new host right now so just message me for now and we can chat! I absolutely do plan on making all digital pieces purchasable prints.

Wish I’d filmed the varnishing of this piece because the transformation was absolutely mind blowing over all the other pieces I varnished. The colors are so much richer.

Aliens on the brain. Trying to do some self reflection and spiritual meditation using the cancer zodiac palette (because if you could see my astrology chart it is 80% water for. Pretty much everything.). Evidently they see earth as a sort of tourist attraction. I think their really big ships are like cruise ships. They hide themselves in the ocean. Mostly benevolent or at least neutral.

And we have the same dna

So if we’re relatives the idea of being a star seed holds some value. (Though I have no interest in that cult but the concept of it has tickled my fancy)

Trying to figure out how to visualize that fuckin bassline in showbiz

How make flow from bottom to top? At the same time.

Bassline is dark for me. Usually show up as vertical lines

Matt’s vocals are high light and flowy and build. Swirly lines

Guitar I think represented as falling droplets

But that bassline drives and I want that showcased without totally over taking.

And drum. Not sure how to represent it either.

Oh god have I ruined it

Lift this one over at my friend’s studio. Looking back on it with fresh eyes I feel less like I ruined it so it will be interesting to come back to in a few weeks. There’s an art crawl at their building in two weeks so planning on going back. Bringing some of my art seeing if any of it might sell bc why not.

Want to try to regularly get up there so I can be at least partially in that art scene up there. For whatever reason I feel like in person sales makes sense more than like online promotion does? but it’s also a somewhat familiar area for me since I have worked in sales so it feels less intimidating if you can believe. The in person piece.

But I think the other comfort is just literally having people I’m comfortable with right nearby. My buffer people.

For context I grew up with selective mutism that presents itself a bit differently these days but I can still feel it there. If I could have advocated for myself when I was younger I would have advocated that I need a safe person nearby or a buffer person. That’s the fastest way to get me feeling more comfortable and able to open up more. Where I am currently I’m trying to navigate the local art world with no buffer person and so it’s really hard for me. I don’t feel like I can do it here but doing it there feels easy. Weird how that works.

So tbh I couldn’t decide which orientation I liked better. I signed it as vertical but tbh it could go horizontal.

I challenged myself with this one by making the softness in this the dark colors rather than the light ones which is what I typically would resort to first.

I loved how saturated only a few of the colors were and because they were so bright I wanted them to stand out almost like light on a dark background for the line work. I loved this palette and I found it a lot of fun. I have to challenge myself with it a few more times.
