Rant about Shauna Shipman
"Shauna Shipman losing her best friend and baby in the wilderness are no excuse for her actions later on in the show!"
I truly hate Shauna Shipman. She was never a good person before or after the wilderness, and people excused her actions for problems that she brought on for herself. Here is my reasoning:
1. She slept with her best friend's boyfriend, refused to tell her how she really felt about certain things (college acceptance, soccer), and then made Jackie leave the cabin after she confronted her. I saw a comment under an edit I was watching talking about some "it was damn teenager shit" but it wasn't. Jackie and Shauna are more complex than that, and shouldn't be watered down to "both were upset" as if it wasn't for Shauna cheating with Jeff and lying to Jackie, then Jackie wouldn't have died.
2. Her losing her baby isn't her fault, and it was traumatic, but not enough to excuse her actions. Shauna got pregnant after sleeping with Jeff. Now, I'm not gonna blame a stillbirth on anybody because that's genuinely horrible (fiction or not), but if she never slept with Jeff, she wouldn't have had a baby. Matter a fact, if we recall, Jackie would've come back into the cabin if Shauna had just apologized. Jackie could've still been alive and could've helped Shauna with her grief, but because of the actions of Shauna Shipman, she died. Shauna caused her own issues long before the plane crashed, and no one really acknowledges it.
And if I bring up how Travis suffered more than Shauna, I'm in the wrong? He lost his dad, brother, got sexually assaulted, and low-key deserves more. I hate how "oh he was misogynistic" is really the only thing Travis haters bring up because that's really the only thing. Not to mention when Shauna brought up Javi? I almost lost my shit. If someone said that about her baby, then people would go on about how it's "messed up".
3. Shauna is a complex character, but so are the majority of the main characters. Misty is a prime example, as she's been bullied her whole life. She's awkward, doesn't understand social cues (honestly same), and had a motive for what led up to her destroying the black box in the first place. Jackie is the opposite of her, yet she's depressed because of the image she has to have, and can't be herself. Tai and Van are lesbians in the 90s. One has extensive childhood trauma and the other likely lived in an alcohol environment. Speaking of both, Natalie had both, while Lottie literally grew up being medicated and treated like an outcast by her own parents. Again, Travis? Or Mari? How about Ben? Or Laura Lee and her faith?
It really goes to show that Shauna isn't special. Everybody before her had issues, and her's could've been resolved if she communicated with Jackie, then nothing remotely bad apart from the plane crash and her baby, because Jackie would've always been there for her.
Shauna in my opinion didn't "suffer the most" out of all of the yellowjackets. She's selfish, narcissistic, and manipulative. In season 4, I hope that Misty and Tai give her what she deserves for getting Van killed (and low-key Melissa bc I hate her bitch ass too).
