Beds are so warm and soft when the rest of the world is not
if youāre having a bad day, just remember that you have managed to get through every bad day youāve had. youāll make it through this one too. i believe in you.
The problem disabled people face with transportation
I know Iāve talked about it on here before, the struggle that comes with having a disability: finding transportation. Sure, some areas provide public transportation and that helps some, but even those with access to public transit struggle with accessibility issues on trains and buses every day. One of the biggest struggles with disability support, accommodations, and accessibility is having affordable and reliable transportation. Most disability organizations themselves lack a transportation option even. Insurances may provide transportation to medical appointments if you are disabled and canāt get to appointments, but they will not take you to or from a job, shopping, or any personal events. Things like Smart Bus and disability specific transportation, though the will provide transportation to work and shopping, generally only work 9am-5pm Monday-Friday and will only transport you within a 15-mile radius. They also do not provide transportation to personal or social events.Ā So what are we supposed to do? What if our work schedules donāt fit the 9 to 5 of the Smart Bus schedule, or what if we need to be somewhere thatās not work or medical related? Unfortunately, that falls on us to hire personal transportation with outrageous costs.Ā You want to know why disabled people are often labeled as introverts or hermits who never leave their house, look above. Our socialization is not seen as a necessary part of life but it is. Even introverts need to interact sometimes. Before I became an adult, before my support system fell away I loved going out, being social and interacting with people. I was a very outgoing person. Now, because of the lack of transportation resources, which has led to days, weeks and even months of being stuck at home, Iāve become more issolated, and introverted. Iāve developed social anxiety because Iāve forgotten how to interact with people outside my home, away from a computer screen. This is why trasportation, and regular socilization is important for the overall health and wellbeing of a person, especially a disabled person. But transportation still isnāt taken seriously, because truth be told, the society still doesnāt want disabled people interacting in their world. They may not say it, but they show it in the little things that they do. And so, disabled people are left to struggle. Unable to work or leave their homes, unless itās to go to the doctor or the store.
The worst trick a childhood anxiety disorder pulls is, you spend your early years being applauded for being so much more mature than your peers, because you arenāt disruptive, you donāt want any kind of attention, you donāt express yourself, you keep yourself to yourself - this makes you a pleasure to have in class, etc etc - and you start to believe itās virtue. But youāre actually way behind your peers in normal social development, and who knows if you can ever catch up.
Never heard a truer thing in my life.
holy shit wait you mean being just morbidly terrified of doing anything wrong ISNāT necessarily the same as being āwell behaved?!ā
Convenient children =/= healthy children
Convenient children do not equal healthy children
Me: I hope this new and debilitating symptom isnāt permanent, idk itāll probs just go away after a bit
Narrator: It was permanent
disabled people shouldnt have to downplay their disability for the comfort of abled people
Youāre allowed to hate your illness. Youāre allowed to hate your body for making you sick. Youāre allowed to be angry, to be negative, to be depressed. You donāt have to beĀ āinspiration pornā or please others for the sake of being palatable. Being sick all the time fucking sucks, thats it.
You are allowed to grieve the years you lost to mental illness. Youāre allowed to be mad that it happened to you. Youāre allowed to pine after the person you might have been had it been different. But donāt let that get in the way of your growing into your new self and following a wholly new path for your life.
I just love sleep so much ā¦ā¦. like u just close ur eyes and ur gone bitch ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ brain logged the fuck off ā¦ā¦ā¦ powerful
Reminder: throughout your life, youāve caused at least one puppy to wag its tail when seeing you and that is a Good Thingā¢
This is the most blessed thing Iāve ever read in my life.
