Some photos from Horror Hound Weekend in Indianapolis, IN.
Here’s a new photo of Bruce Campbell from Ash vs Evil Dead, which is set to premiere on October 31 on Starz.
The image accompanies an interview with Campbell on EW. The piece doesn’t say much new about the series, but I still get excited every time I hear about it. Here’s an excerpt:
You’re going to have new demons. Not necessarily a demon of the week, but you’ve got 10 opportunities for new creatures to fight with different levels of skills. Some are inanimate objects — as you saw from the trailer, Ash gets attacked by a doll. [Director Sam Raimi] always likes to mix it up. He likes to mix up the sorts of horror — whether it’s creepy horror or shocking horror or disgusting horror. You’re going to get all of that. So basically, the bottom line is: If you like horror, hopefully you’ll be satisfied. And if you’re okay with comedy, you’ll be good with that to. Because some people can’t take horror unless it’s got a little comedy — a little spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.
Campbell also mentions that they’re already discussing a second season.
RIP Wes Craven (August 2nd, 1939 - August 30th, 2015)
“We lost a great deal of magic yesterday. I’m devastated to hear of Wes’s passing. My life wouldn’t be what it is without him. I will be forever grateful for his brilliant direction, his wicked sense of humor and his consummate kindness and friendship. He has entertained us all for decades and inspired so many to follow in his path. I loved Wes dearly and will miss him always. Thank you Wes!” - Neve Campbell
Lost River (2014)
This movie is beautiful. Visually striking, great acting and has a strange original storyline. I enjoyed the horror night club and the friendship between Rat (Saoirse Ronan) and Bones (Iain de Caestecker). They did a phenomenal job. However I couldn't stomach it, the thoughtless cruelty and strangeness of this world that is somewhere between magical and Grimm reality was too unnerving. Some scenes were disturbing and I was definitely surprised by Ryan Gosling for writing this. If you can handle it I say go ahead and rent it but it's definitely one of those films you have to have a certain taste for.
ASK ME.....
If there is a movie you want me to see, or want me to do a review on? Or if you want to ask if I've already seen something. Ask away!!!
New Films I've Seen
-What We Do in the Shadows -Maggie -dead end -All Cheerleaders Die -It Follows -Ex Machina -Devils Diary -Unfriended
The Drownsman (2014) You know those irrational fears we all have? Well after nearly drowning Madison has a deathly fear of water… Even if it’s just a drop she flips her lid. Is it a fear of drowning or that scary man she sees when water is around her??? Perhaps we will never know. Her friends decide it’s crazy for her to be afraid of something so necessary to life and form an intervention. Yeah! Let’s just force her into a tub of water! That’s a great idea! Well slowly each friend starts to see what Madison sees and have second thoughts about water themselves. As the movie progresses a backstory is unveiled about a serial killer who very slowly drowned girls. The Drownsman, now he’s back and he’s come for Madison. The film has its bad moments, some questions about how she bathes and stays hydrated still linger in my mind but it was a good flick. Elements of My soul to take and urban legends flashed through my head and of course an ending that tricks you into thinking you’re finally safe. Not bad, not bad at all.
Poltergeist (2015) Alright. Get ready... Another horror remake. Horror fans cringe and cross their fingers as they buy their tickets and sit down into their snug theatre seats....at least that's what I did. Starring Sam Rockwell (love), Jared Harris as the psychic, Kennedi Clements as the little blonde (oh I mean brunette) girl. So they changed some things... They always do. But I think some of the sequels were worse than the remake. Something's don't make sense but in order to stay true to the original it couldn't have made sense. They added some stupid scenes and threw in a few more clowns because one creepy doll clown was not enough. However I liked that they explored more of the other side, the ghost realm that was scary. When it was over I took a deep breath in and decided that I approved.
Digging Up The Marrow (2014)
Starring Adam Green as him self, and Ray Wise as William Dekker a man hell bent on proving the existence of monsters. Dekker has gone to every director in the business, to get his monsters on film but when one comes to do just that he goes a little crazy claiming that he will scare the monsters away and Adam must decide if there is any truth to the old mans crazy tales. This film is cheesy and at times hard to take seriously since i didn’t find it particularly scary. The idea however is really original and I certainly wasn’t bored during the movie.
Starry Eyes (2014) This film starts out with a character named Sarah (Alexandra Essoe) an aspiring actress who can't seem to get a part, and becomes more and more desperate for one. So desperate in fact that she does monstrous things to get a seemingly perfect role. The film has your basic sell your soul for what you want premise but goes a lot darker than you might want to see. Although some of the acting is at times over exaggerated. The film is still terrifying, filled with striking shots and it leaves you with the thought....how much would you give for what you want? Is it worth it?
Army of Darkness. Who knew I could love something that involves time travel so much. Watch this movie but don't take it seriously. You aren't supposed to.
Recently I have watched
Jurassic World ***** Starry Eyes*** Leprechaun origins ** Predestination w*t*f Poltergeist **** The marrow *** Accidental Love**** Horns**** Some guy who kills people **** Come back to me **** Lost City ** The DrownsMan *** I will do reviews for these movies later.
THE PYRAMID (2014) I totally went in to this movie thinking it was about a mummy and a curse of some kind and then it reminded me a bit of “As Above So Below” mostly because of the going deeper and deeper under ground. Instead of a mummy however it is a creature, picking off the living. The monster is something I’ve never seen in a horror movie before and although I think more could have been done with it I’m still pleasantly surprised by it. The movie was fairly typical and aside from the mystery monster not much stood out. I prefer it it to Hack job movies like the paranormal activity films (I’m very sorry but I hate them).the camera work was dark and shaky, typical of found footage films, and yet I've seen better. The acting was believable enough, and the anticipation of seeing the creature was well orchestrated.
TUSK (2014) This film is a dark comedy…something like the human centipede but with tusks instead of… Well you know. My thoughts during this film… What the hell. No way! Ha! Oh god....no. Wallace Bryton (Justin long) a podcaster sets out for a good story and thinks maybe he’s found one when he ends up becoming victim to an eccentric madman (Michael Parks). Wallace struggles to escape and to keep from turning into a monster himself. The movie is quite original In a familiar way and definitely provides a few laughs, a few cringes and a few sighs. Worth renting simply because of its ridiculousness. I couldn’t help but rent it as soon as I laid eyes on it, curiosity killed the cat however. It was directed by Kevin Smith so what can you expect. Haha
FROM THE DARK (2014) We all know the story about a couple who's car breaks down on the countryside but instead of a psychopathic backwoods villain There is a monster. A vampire to be exact, who's been recently awakened. This vampire film doesn't feature the tall dark and handsome vampire we've become accustomed to...instead the creature is more of a Nosferatu. The film is filled with twists, turns and thrills. As our protagonists fight darkness with any scraps of light they can find. In a scramble to escape with their lives. This movie isn't a blockbuster but still gets my vote. Because A. it's NOT shot documentary style (which I personally hate) and B. the protagonist isn't a stereotypical blonde bimbo... She has a brain and occasionally uses it! You won't be disappointed! This horror flick is definitely worth watching kiddies.
<p>THE VOICES (2015) This black comedy features Ryan Reynolds, Gemma Arterton, and Anna Kendrick. The movie begins as a lightly dark comedy and quickly spirals into a sick feeling in the pit of your stomach. The setting is what I can only describe as the color scheme of Pepto-Bismol and blood in a back road town. The plot is that of a socially awkward and obsessive man who turns accidentally homicidal and listens to the advice of his pets. Whom he can understand.... When he doesn't take his pills. Wrapping it up with a unsettlingly cheerful musical number at the end that leaves you wanting to either dance along or throw up all of your insides. The cast was perfect for each of their roles and did wonderfully, the movie was intriguing and filled with twists and turns. Rent it at your own risk.
