Hi, I'm Alicia! 20s, they/she, giant nerd, member of @renegadeguild 💛. This is mainly a writing and bookbinding blog, with a few side quests here and there. I hope you enjoy your stay! <3
hiiiiii! zay has his copy now so I can post pics!! :D
I don't normally bind my own work, but after zay did an incredible podfic of one of my jayvik fics, I decided to give a go! (and so I could make him a copy too hehe). this is a bind of the podfic of my little seaside post-canon, when it comes my turn to lose you. gorgeous artwork on the CDs is by @moonartjb and @wr0wn. (full pieces, which have and deserve their own posts, are here and here!)
as always, more crafty chatter under the cut! <3
This was such a fun challenge! I knew going in that I wanted a format that would showcase the podfic in a physical way, but I went back and forth on how best to do that. While I was puzzling out possible dimensions, I came across the digibook and went !!!:
From there, it was just a matter of sizing the textblock and case around the CDs, then making paper pockets for each board to house them. For the textblock, I measured the dimensions of a CD and a standard jewel case as a starting point, then found a size I thought would work best. I printed on my usual short-grain letter paper and trimmed twice--once after sewing the signatures, then again after gluing the spine. The finished size of the book is the same height as a jewel case, and a little shorter length-wise:
(comparison photo with another bound podfic by zay hehe)
For the CD pockets, I used cream printer paper and folded them using this tutorial (...don't ask me how many times I had to refold them to get the dimensions exactly right ajsdlfkjs).
All in all, I'm quite happy with this size! I think it strikes a nice balance between book and CD case, and it feels nice and sturdy in the hand, especially with both CDs in there (Disc 1 is chapters 1-4, and Disc 2 is chapters 5-7!)
Another one of my favorite bits of this bind is the window inset! Original photo is by Daniel Gorostieta, which I edited in Affinity Publisher and printed on Epson photo paper. I then layered a sheet of acetate between the boards to give it that reflective window quality, and also to protect the photo paper, which can be vulnerable to scratching and fading if left exposed.
But by far the COOLEST part of this bind was getting to hand it to zay in person!! I've only ever mailed author copies before, so it was amazing getting to meet up and hand him something we'd both worked on together 🥹
And finally, one last credit--the beautiful metal spiral bookmark (which I just had to include in the pics) was a gift to me, literally forged by dear @zillac. It's one of the most beautiful things I've ever received, and I can't believe it's mine!! I will treasure it forever <3
Between the artwork, the podfic, meeting zay, and zil's gift (which arrived around the time I was finishing this bind)--gosh! All my books are a mosaic of people and stories I care about, but this one felt extra special 💌
And that's all for today! Once more for the road: you can listen to zay's podfic on ao3, here <3
was so incredibly lucky enough to get to commission @wr0wn for my friend zay's amazing podfic of my little seaside post-canon! wrown's art is so stunning; I'm always blown away by how they paint light, bodies, intimacy. they were so accommodating and generous with the final changes I asked for (hence why there are two versions of the scene ehe, both equally lovely!), and it was such a pleasure working with them <3
thank you so much for bringing them to life, wrown!!! I'm so in love with the final piece ajsdlfjs I'm gonna print it out to hang it up on my art wall so I can look at them being in love forever and ever 😭
(plus--a little bonus animation under the cut, of some of the final drafts stitched together! 🥹)
my friend zay did an INCREDIBLE podfic of my little seaside post-canon and I am!!! emotional about it!!! zay's narration is so soothing, and he does the boys' voices so fucking well. there's soundscaping, there's music, there's incredible voice acting--just, the attention to detail astounds. I feel so honored. you can listen to it on ao3, here <333
cover art by the incomparable @wr0wn, who I was so lucky to get to commission! I'll be making a separate post with the pieces, because they're so so stunning ahhh <333
AHHHHAHAHA I can post pics now! This is Match Your Breath to Mine, by dear @27dragons <3 Stunning artwork of chapter 4 by @wr0wn.
As always, crafty details under the cut!
Such a pleasure to make this bind for a gift exchange! I made two copies (the third, my own, is still in progress aha), one for dragons and one for dear @zillac.
I had SO much fun designing these covers. The fic is a wonderful jayvik college AU set over the course of their time together at university (AND THEY WERE ROOMMATES!!). When I was in college, I had a corkboard on my desk with a bunch of memorabilia and photos, so I wanted to emulate that dorm room, scrapbook-y feeling here. Photos are from various Pinterest images that I converted into Polaroids in Canva (there are a few I had to cut for space, but posting all them here now ehe)--
--and the full spreads were designed in Affinity Publisher:
The assets were also a blast to gather and collage together! Some I made myself (the red string is a piece of yarn I had in my fiber stash, and the acceleration rune sticker was hand-lasso'd by me in CSP), some I had in my assets stash, and some were from various png blogs on tumblr. One of them is even a photo dragons took! (the one of the paper chain, hehe >:3).
One of my favorite photos to edit was the one I eventually used for the title page, which I made more jayvik-y in CSP lol:
For the construction, I used the three-piece Bradel bind format that DAS explains here!
Endpapers were made with this Penguin Classics cover generator (I believe I found the link via Renegade aha). I foiled the endpapers in my cheapo laminator and some foil I had on hand, with some mixed results lolol (dragons and zil got the good ones >.<).
I'm also improving with rounding + backing spines! behold, the prettiest mushroom I've hammered to date :D
Covers were printed on printable canvas, which is now my go-to for all my digitally designed covers. It prints soooo nicely and holds up fairly well to all the folding and gluing I have do to while making the case. I also might try experimenting with sealing them with wax next time!
Finally, blue bookcloth is this gorgeous Japanese linen I bought while on a trip last year! It is SO dreamy to work with, highly recommend. The color is stunning and the iron-on foil and vinyl went down smooth as butter (I was concerned about the little neps at first, but they posed no issue and add so much yummy texture to the cloth :3)
AND THAT'S ALL, FOLKS! This bind was such a joy to make 🥹 Dragons's writing and MYBTM especially has such a special place in my heart - thank you so, so much to dragons for writing and sharing it, and to zil for beta'ing and commissioning art for it! Here it is one more time, for the road <3
it is kinda impossible for me to express how much this gift means to me. believe me, i’ve been trying.
cheering on @27dragons as Match Your Breath To Mine, genuinely one of my favorite works of writing, burst into being felt absolutely magical. the fact that 27dragons then shared it as a gift to me? makes me tear up, genuinely.
one part of the blessing of chub’s work is the evidence, in my hands, that this fic is massive. this is a whole-ass book. 27dragons wrote an one of my favorite books, in SIX WEEKS!!
even though i hadn’t yet held it in my hands, i knew this fic was something incredibly special. i couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate such an achievement than asking wr0wn to bring a bit of it to life. which they did SO STUPIDLY WELL, and i am so happy to see it here, on paper, in my hands.
another absolute delight and honor has been witnessing chub’s craft and insanely gorgeous book binds this past year. this feels like wizardry to me, from a technical standpoint. from a personal standpoint it’s just straight up incomprehensible. the amount of care and attention put into the stories i have seen chubs bind is palpable and it’s tangible.
i ALSO had a corkboard in uni. somewhere i gathered artifacts tied to memories i wanted to keep, a board that could hold some of the love for the people in those memories, in the moments i couldn’t hold those people. a place i turned a mystifying present into a fondly held past, where i stored the things i needed to see when i was trying to remember the point of it all.
this bind? feels like that, but massive. i just can’t put into words how it feels to hold something in my hands that has had this much love poured into it.
chubs, friend. from the bottom of my heart, thank you. ❤️
I'm really struggling to articulate how much this response means to me--thank you so so much, dear friend <3 this book is my attempt at bringing together the overwhelming love and creativity of so many people, and it's an honor to get to be a part of it! i'm so, so happy you like it, and that you and dragons can hold that love in your hands now <333
(also gosh, yeah. SIX WEEKS!!! @27dragons HOWWWW YOU ARE A WIZARD!!!)
MYBTM literally took over my WHOLE BRAIN; at the peak I was writing 4-7k every day.
By the end of it I had carpal tunnel. So I have now imposed a strict upper limit on the amount of writing I am allowed to do in one day. 😬
But I am STILL NOT OVER how pretty this book is and that I can hold it! in my hands! so you are AT LEAST as much of a wizard my friend! ❤️❤️❤️ (@zillac will back me up 🙂↕️)
Also @zillac you are also magic because your thanks to chubs made ME cry 😭❤️❤️❤️
My previous reblog was mostly just incoherent screaming and I still kind of feel like that but. MYBTM is one of the creations I'm most proud of in my entire life, and @zillac's help was 100% absolutely necessary, it would never have been anything more than a couple of short stories without their help. And to now be able to hold it in my hands is a miracle, chubs! And you've given that to me!
I've filed the serial numbers off of fics to publish them before, and each of those felt like real accomplishments, but this. This is something special. I am going to cherish this book for the rest of my life. ❤️🐉❤️

If the fic has been written by someone else, I ask that you please provide a screenshot of the author giving explicit permission to bind their fic for this event, or send a screenshot/link to a blanket permission statement from the author. The only exception to this rule is if a fic has been posted anonymously or orphaned.
Due to the nature of how I typeset, the fic must be posted to AO3.
I'm very open to suggestions or design ideas, especially for fandoms I'm not familiar with! That said, I reserve the right to make any final decisions re: design and construction, based on the materials I have on hand.
I can include art pieces; however, you must have permission from the artist to include their work.
I will not be binding anthologies or series; if you would like a shorter fic bound, please feel free to check out the paperback auction!
Fic can be any rating, but if it is rated Explicit, you must sign the age statement in the bidding form confirming you are over 18.
Bidders may participate in both auctions if they wish.
I will not bind anything related to the Harry Potter series/franchise.
Details - Hardcover
Please choose a fic with a word count in the 25k to 150k word range (some leeway of a few thousand or so words here is fine).
I offer three book sizes, but please note that if your WC is higher, it will be easiest for me to make a half-letter book. (Please see below for notes on sizing.)
Minimum bid: $45 USD
Details - Paperback

Depending on the length of your fic, I offer different sizes!

Quarto legal: ~4.125" x ~6.75"
Quarto letter: ~5.375" x ~4.125"
Details - Shipping and Timeline
I will pay for tracked shipping within the United States. If you are outside the US, I am happy to craft for you, but please note you will be responsible for the shipping costs, which can be significant as books are heavy. Please look into how much it costs to ship a book sized object from the US to you before bidding.
I'm aiming to have all books completed and shipped out by September/October; however, this deadline is tentative and subject to change (either earlier or later) depending on the complexity of the project. All books will be shipped no later than the FTH deadline of December 31st.

Helloo, I absolutely adore your binds, I could stare at them for centuries 😍 The ask word limit is killing me, but I was wondering if you take commissions for original work? My novel isn't exactly trad publishing friendly as it's got quite a quirky structure and a not-so-commercial subject, but I still very much ache to be able to hold it in my hand. Tumblr won't let me add a link to my writing blog, but if you're interested, would it be cool to send a message with actual details? Thank youuu!
hi hi hello! oh my gosh, thank you so much for the kind words (and apologies I totally missed this in my inbox!). I don't take commissions, but I'm always so honored when people ask, especially when it's for their own work.
(and I know your ask wasn't quite about this, but if you're interested in learning about bookbinding or getting in touch with a larger bookbinding/fanbinding community, I always like to point folks in the direction of @renegadeguild! we have a lot of great resources over there, if you're interested)
thank you so much again for reaching out--it really means a lot! <3
