Tardif is from a tiny fishing village in the Arctic, and grew up around ships and sailors. He's worked a wide variety of manual labor jobs, including rope maker, whaler, church bell-ringer, and butcher. When he's not bounty hunting, he takes odd jobs and works as an assistant to blacksmiths, carpenters and other tradesmen. He doesn't wear his signature mask when working as a "civilian", though.

Before Al-Hazred started diving into occultism, he was very into mathematics. He discovered theoretical problems about higher spatial dimensions while studying geometry, which led to an interest in the outer spheres and otherworldly entities.
