Hi! I LOVE YOUR ART !!! >33333 *sends lots of love*
Please ignore me if someone has asked this before or this is not your type of qn to answer but I am really curious what is your general drawing process like? Do you start coloring from a sketch or you do a polished linework first? Do you use multiple layers and utilise different layer properties(like overlay, multiply, all the usuals etc) to manipulate the colors or you just use a single/very few layer and manually creates the effect like in traditional paintings? Also, how large do you usually set your canvas? Your paintings are at such a perfect pixel! I find the mood and astmosphere in your pieces truly gripping and as a digital artist myself I would be really grateful if you could bestow me with the insights of your thought process when creating a piece! (Sorry this kinda turned from one ask into multiple asks)
Sends lots of love again!!>>333
ok so my process is
1. Find references u wanna combine the feel of for mood and stuff
2. This is important listen to music while drawing which matches the vibe of the piece you want. Seems weird but it helps
3. Sketch out a thumbnail with the canvas zoomed all the way out to avoid too much detail
4. Clean sketch into a ‘lineart’
5. Base colour under lineart using lasso and rubber
6. Erase ‘lineart’ where the colour blocking already shows the form and keep where needed
7. On the skin tone base colour clip a multiply layer and airbrush blush and cool tones where needed and I like to make extremities more reddish
8. Colour lineart a more saturated colour
9. Merge all base colours and lineart
10. add shadows by blocking in using a multiply layer clipped to the whole form
11. Carve out shapes using multiply
12. Use select to erase multiply so it fits the form and release the clipping mask so it looks the same
13. Use clipping mask w multiply to the shadows with a warmer colour to add ambient occlusion to the shadows
14. Airbrush the light colour over the form with a clipping mask to add glow using the soft light layer mode
15. Using overlay and a reddish warmer tone add scatter light?? To where the skin or forms transition to shadow and more intense where the forms should be more permeable to light
16. Add bounce light from the background using soft light too so if the character is outside is should reflect the colour of the sky and the grass etc
17. Merge all together and create a new layer on top to render using a textured paint brush while following your reference
18. Add random doohickeys in the bg and play around and make it follow the rule of thirds by adding a lil grid on it
19. Add filters you want
My canvas sizes are usually at 8000px*6500px
also a really great tip is add a white layer w saturation layer mode to check ur values constantly
TGANK U FOR ASKING 😙😙

<At the Beach, In Every Life> A Coltland&Coltlandgentry Animation
You'll find me at the beach in every life through every door
Whoomp, there it is! last big thing before I go to revision hell!
Goal is to be done by today and finished it 15min before 12am so I consider it a mission completed.
My back eyes and body hurts but my heart is content. Literally finished minutes before my bed time so it is definitely not perfect but it is the best I have for now.(You can see how my patience starts to dwindle towards the end)
inspired by multiple coltland/ coltlandgentry fanart/fics, such as <based on a true story> by interstellarisms on AO3,(The song is from the fic's recommended listening and <he didn’t say goodbye> by eliomii on AO3, thank you to all the coltland/coltlandgentry creators (Esp the coltland propaganda community members)yall are amazing!!
Also I have to put it as coltland&coltland gentry as Court only appeared in one scene. So it is more focused on the twins but it is in the coltlandgentry universe(sorry Court i will make it up to you in the future I promise!!)
Will prob update more notes on this piece tmr when I am less sleepy
for now, hope you enjoy!
Edit: can;t believe i forgot my 100 days drawing challenge
25/100
also made a presentation for my friends recently
Some WIPs of an animation 'm working on :P
I swear this will be the last big thing i make before i head off to exams(OH LORD save me) But i js can't let the idea pass!!
Reflection
Does Colt see Ryland in his own reflection? Rendering/texture practice frankly idk what i'm drawing, just the vibes!
Reference pic from a photo in @sierrasixseven's post. Thanks Six!
Self notes on process: determined to finish it before bed cuz i can't drag every piece out to 5/6+ hours all the time. (So this time is around 3hr)Time to cut that habit of obsessing over details. Some times it just have to be imperfect. Anyways an overall pleasant draw(Esp the puddle, first time trying this kind of texture and is so fun to do it) after the puddle is more or less done moves on to Ryland and my lineart started to suck again. so eventually I removed it and opted for just the colors(which works surprisingly well for this kind of atmesphere hehe) . Speaking of color the brush [WaterC Spread Wide Area] in Krita is so perfect for drawing water color adjacent texture, almost everything in this piece if from this brush. The distortion of the reflection in the puddle is from[k) blender knife edge] and really gives the reflection a whole new texture. Feels like could have made the yellow more bright afterall. Love Ryland's yellow raincoat. And honestly even now after I finished I haven't decided if the person is Ryland or Colt. I mean, it could be both of them, like a two in one thing(what the hell am i talking abt) and I am pretty sure Colt would wear Ryland's raincoat after he's gone to 'feel his presence'. :*
100 days drawing challenge (24/100)
I'm not ready.
Guitar Lesson
Court being the literal mother of the twins It occurs to me mid-draw that the headcanon for how much older Court is than the twins is usually 3-5 years but I find it cute to enlarge that age difference so high school Court and Primary school twins!! Self-notes on process[rambling]: I AM SO SORRY YALL GUITAR IS SO HARD TO DRAW DESPITE MY BEST EFFORTS (GAAA
I actually spent much more time than usual on such a simple piece( I think in total it was (like5hrs??). was supposed to go for a more simplistic style as shown in my ref photo(credit to 鄂季 on Pixiv), but cannot help myself to do the details as I think my linework isn't good enough to support that kind of basic colors. Speaking about linework, big mistake to use a soft brush in a piece intended to be a practice about linework. shdoul have used the pencil brush last time or just full on hard brush. So spent so much time on linework(as I did draft-->detailed draft-->line work), took myself a bit of time to get the proportions right from the ref photo too(i am so rusted cuz of my exams). Generally a challenging piece that turned out okayish. Oh and i did record but I forgot to turn the recorder back on after I reopened the software so poof.
Key takeaways: Don't use soft brush when you want the focus to be your linework and your render is gonna be simple. Basically if you want your coloring to standout lessen the presence of the lines, vice versa.
mid piece but a piece is a piece so 100 days drawing challenge(23/100)

one last call.
I love how you draw Coltland Gentry- you make them such goobers it’s perfect ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Aww, thank you so much!(and thank you for the ask! It's my first on tumblr!!!) I'm really glad you like it! ❤️
I've always wanted to show their more goofy, everyday side as a way to escape all the immense hurt in canon, hahaha. But I also think that seeing them being so normal and mundane makes the tragedy hit even harder. Once you strip away the grand plot, they're just three brothers you could easily imagine meeting at school or growing up with. And that's exactly why it hurts so much to think about everything canon puts them through: one has the weight of humanity on his shoulders, while the other two are left to carry that loss for the rest of their lives. Somehow, making them feel ordinary makes the heartbreak a hundred times worse for me, but it also makes my heart warm and fluffy to see that life they are living before it all went to shit and pretend nothing happened in canon hahahahhaah >33
POV: Colt has to take Ryland's Highschool graduation photo because Ryland is sick on the day
I love these brothers they r gonna be the death of me
inspiration from this meme i found on google :3
Court and Colt when they heard their baby brother is being shoot off into space against his will:
Photo drawing prac of another Gosling film!!
watched the film a few days ago, wasn't what I expected(i was expected sth like drive) but still a great watch! squeezed it in between my revision
self-notes on process:
chill piece, I think avs time i used is 4 hrs ish? used that pencil brush I liked but i guess it could be barely seen with the rendering. as usual drew the background before the main body, works like a charm as usual(i'm too tired to write more so that's all bye)
