The first step for the women living at the Fay House Shelter was to gain the courage to break away from abuse.

All of the Strengthen Our Sisters properties are about to have their first utilities shut off!!! Sandra founded the first women’s shelter in North America and this 78 year old Jewish lesbian who has taken a vow of poverty has been running these 6 houses, a free day care, and a thrift store to help support the shelters largely on her own for almost 50 years. They lost a lotttt of funding last year for refusing to kick women out after 30 days. They are also one of the only women’s shelters in the state that allows pets which may not sound like a big deal to you, but a lot of people would rather stay with their abusers or on the street if it means getting to stay with their animals so it’s actually huge....Sandra is literally a saint and a lot of women are going to suffer if these shelters are closed down.
