@chytilovian-daisy
today, is gbf comicfury anniversary! i put up the first page on there this day in 2021!
i wanted to showcase my tools and such, but ended up being too caught up with life and all, but hopefully one day i can share more of the process around this comic!
here is a pic of the stack of paper it's being at home aaaa
there is a bit more in sketchbooks, lose papers and such, but, those in the pics are strictly gbf related! comis pages, illustrations, reseach work... it's all them! : D
Q&A!
When did you first conceptualize the characters and story?
most of the characters are OCs (original characters) i had since middle school! from the comic i wrote back then, in copybooks ahaha, 'goth boyfriends' is one of the many AUs (Alternative Universes) from this project that i keep toying with in my head.
i wrote the first chapter during a challenge with a friend, where we were writing very short comics. i started adding chapters and... here we are! haha! it taught me a lot about comic making so i'm very glad i pulled through!
And what came first?
first i was almost exclusively guided with the characters whims and their "usual" stories and links in the original material. friends were friends, enemies were enemies and so on. it was also a time i got really into goth fashion again, so it was truly a spiral around things i liked at this time, that keep growing and evolving all over the place!
then as things started to settle i was able to write a more coherant idea of the story. it changed widely, gbf directions changed a lot between 2020 and now. path to the next parts, choices on what way to go through for the ending, even the ending itself changed a lot! i remain open to things changing again as i write, but the structure is way more solid, in the way that i don't see myself write myself in a corner and being forced to drop it. i'm confident i can finish it!
How far ahead do you plan when doing it?
i used to work one page after the other with very blurry idea of the general direction aaa very risky, i'm glad i didn't wrote myself into a dead end, but now i'm being more careful!
nowadays i work part by part. i have a general idea of the ending, and then decide what a part should talk about. what subjects and characters it brings, what it solves (or make worse) etc...
Which of the cast is the most fun to draw?
all of them ahaha, top 3 would be hope, sadji and the dogs. hope for the raw display of emotion, sadji for the fashion and the dogs because i can go SILLY eheheheheheheheeh
anyone with fashion i like to explore is fun! tuma, sashimi and pao always have me searching up and making up clothing with more care. red also have some outfits that i enjoyed drawing...
i love experimenting drawing hairs, even though i often feel like i'm doing weird things and it makes no sense aaaaaa
Which of the cast is easiest to write? Hardest to write?
easiest are those with straightforward emotion/intentions. hope, you can read it all on his face so it's always very direct, i don't have to overthinks it too much, same for léo, as he remains very? unphased, by everything, yet says what he thinks very directly. somehow, red falls under this umbrella too, as he thinks he's always right, so whatever he says, he believes... u_u
hardest are sadji, as, except two time (i think!), i never wrote any thoughts bubble for him, and it's a bit harder to read his face (i think aaaa)
edel and kaizer are also ??? unpleasant to write, stressful?? aaaa edel because he is the embodiment of very vile things, that, unfortunately exist, but are also hard to display, as i don't want it to feel too caricatured, but sometimes some people display it in a very mean and dumb way, but that doesn't undermine the seriousness/harm of such hateful stance/thoughts
kaizer more that, he is a bit nuanced, and tied to the intrigue in a bigger way, so i can't shake him off and bring him 6 months later without consequences or it slowing down things... aaaa
thank you for the questions @brie-draws! : D i hope the answers are interesting and not too 'yappy'/blurry aaa
thank you to everyone who takes the time to read, comment or share the comic! : )
thank you for your kindness, patience and nice words! i'm still learning and i hope the road ahead is still very long for me to learn!
