story time pealese of people self shipping with your oc (what strange terminology)

oh my god so i used to be part of this oc roleplay when i was in my teens and for some reason my characters specifically really had people acting up. there was selfshipping there was kinning it was a complete battlefield i can’t even get into all of it because the lore is so extensive. but one of my OCs was named jake and he was the main character of this portal fantasy trilogy i was trying to write, and like overall he was a pretty bog standard YA protag, except for some reason he induced an acute hysteria in the community. people wrote unsolicited porn about him multiple times and dropped it in my DMs as a little surprise for when i got out of freshman algebra or whatever & there were threats of self injury if jake did not return affections. and i used to roleplay jake talking to people when they had a bad day because they’d ignore me, teddy, the real person, to be like JAAAAKE. Can I have a hug :c And i was ljke ummm ok “Jake: *hugs* Awww, hiya, bud. What’s goin’ on in your noggin’ today? That talk with your dad went rough or somethin’? *pats your hair*” because i had no idea how to navigate it even at all. one time a 23 year old told me that the idea of jake not getting a happy ending made him suicidal because He Was Literally Jake And If Jake Died Then How Could He Live. i was about 15 at the time so i didn’t know what to do about it except change the story ending like uhh dont kys look he’s happy now yayy!! LOL. and this sort of thing went on for like eight years. i learnt so many things about what people wanted to do to my imaginary friends, owl
