Passion & Pride - Heartbeat of Home.
Working on this little project with the lovely Ciara Sexton for a few days over the next couple of weeks. Here’s some test shots… Next stop, stage and the street.

The greatest performance I have ever seen. Jean is such an inspiration.
REHEARSAL - A short film by Poppy Gordon & Matt Kliegman Here’s great little video where I talk about embracing your flaws, my love of dance and my dance role model (and now good friend), Jean Butler. In reality, without her inspiring me to dance I never would have been scouted as a model.
Brilliant.
After getting all 4 yes's from the judges, unfortunately we never made the semi-finals of BGT 2015, so here is a rehearsal video of the routine we...
Aren’t my friends crazy talented? Check out their AMAZING audition for BGT. Irish dancers, you’re going to love this! :)
Do nothing, say nothing, be nothing. Do something, say something, BE SOMETHING.
In the studio today preparing for Riverdance in Cork/Dublin and Heartbeat of Home's return to the stage. Thanks mylifenowandsoontobe for the fabulous photo on our last tour in Japan. #countesscathleen #riverdance #heartbeatofhome
Help how do I become a world renowned 18 year old irish dance choreographer who makes bank and gets flown into foreign cities to teach sets and gets to sit in the front row at majors purely because of my glory and fabulous outfit choices
This is AMAZING. 😂
Very little has been written about the history of Irish dance costumes. I was googling around last night and finally found the only good theses written on the topic. If you are familiar at all with Irish dancing in the 21st century, you may ask yourself why the costumes look so wack. Essentially nothing about the modern day solo costumes have anything to do with any irish design, production, nor handicrafts. The newer looks not only reflect a vastly different mode of production than in the past (chinese production vs. cottage industry), but also a change of identity. Those who appreciate the newer designs, do so because they view the traditional velvet costumes, colors, and designs as a static and overly rigid interpretation of the irish tradition. The Scottish highland dancing costume (pictured last, for comparison) (Yes, scottish dancing is a thing.) has been more preserved from the past, as has the kilt. Those dancers don’t wear wigs or fake tan. But anyways, what does that tiny dress you see Irish dancers today have in common with the past? Irish dress & culture were actually banned in the 1500s. During the cultural revival of the late 19th century, the Gaelic League and other cultural leaders wanted to revive & preserve what they saw as a disappearing indigenous Irish culture. The “celtic costume” is the top image. This was in vogue with Gaelic League members in the first two decades of the 20th century. Gaelic League leaders rejected an idealized peasant costume, but looked back to the pre-16th c. ancient past. The “celtic costume” has fallen out of favor, but some aspects of the “celtic costume” + the scottish kilt were used to create the dress shape we see as institutionalized in the irish dance world since the 1950s. Irish dance schools would have all their dancers dress in matching costumes. Eventually production has moved offshore, materials and modes of production and styles have changed. It’s a universal story you all know. I understand that people can be sick of the past and want to change, or have room to express themselves. But personally, all those garish designs and colors mortify me. Today the Irish dancers get made up like pageant girls. They even all have spray tans. Which seems crazy, because if you are representing irish culture…shouldn’t you be okay with your pale skin?

Amazing week in Oxford meeting old friends and new... Hearing how the show touches each audience member personally is incredible. Week 13 of the tour and we are absolutely loving it. X
Coolest cookies ever?!
Any tips on dancing and being confident on stage?
I’ve always believed that confidence is a direct result of the peace of mind you achieve from knowing you did everything possible to prepare for a competition. Putting in the hard work and dedication should give you the confidence in yourself to know that you are ready. There is no worse feeling than going into a competition knowing that you didn’t practice enough. So above all else, work hard before the competition!
Before you walk on stage, remind yourself of all the hard work, sweat, and tears that you put into your dancing. Know that you worked as hard as you could. Remember all the pain, the drills and the stamina work you put yourself through and tell yourself you aren’t going to let it go to waste! You didn’t do all that hard work for nothing!
Always remember, HARD WORK BEATS TALENT WHEN TALENT DOESN’T WORK HARD! I’ve seen dancers with loads of natural ability get beaten numerous times by people with less natural talent, but they just worked so hard they became amazing dancers.
Lastly, I think in Irish Dance we sometimes for get that, at the end of the day, although we train like athletes, Irish Dance is a form of art… And a beautiful form indeed! The essence of all things artistic is expression. Try and find a way to express your emotions and personality on stage through your style and steps. We sometimes forget that even though it’s a competition it’s still meant to be entertaining. The audience, and you yourself, are meant to enjoy the performance! Never forget to project to the audience and present your dances to the judges. They want to enjoy your performance too!
Don’t just go through the motions. Try to create images in people’s minds with your dancing. That is when Irish dancing is at it’s best and it’s is truly beautiful. Ciara Sexton is one of the best dancers I have ever seen at doing this. You can feel her energy and expression when she is on stage. She performs and projects to the audience and creates expression with each movement. Always remember it’s a performance not just a competition. Don’t over do it, but be calm, collected and enjoy performing your craft for the audience. It’s supposed to be fun! A natural smile will come when you are enjoying yourself and having fun on stage! :) Hope this helps! ❤️
