I haven't abandoned this story. I just put it on the back burner for now. The story is just on a small vacation. It is currently out of office. It can't come to the phone right now. It just fell under my bed to sleep with the monsters. It never left my head. It is everywhere - except on paper.

I have taken a long break from writing because of my poor health. I have every intention of continuing my unfinished fics. I have many WIP I haven't yet shared anything about besides the ones I have talked about. But that said, I don't foresee myself returning to be an active member on here. I may post some links on here but otherwise will only be active on AO3. Most of my moots have my discord, if anyone wants to talk that would be the best way to contact me. 💙

Sebagni Japan AU

Setting: Late Showa Japan (~1970s-1980s)

The premise: Sebastian is a yokai, but he’s kept this hidden. He first met agni 10 years ago, halfway across the world from Japan. Agni was the first human since Ciel to show Sebastian kindness, so he hung around, eventually showing up in human form.

One stormy day, Agni’s cafe is empty, and he’s contemplating closing early when an absolutely drowned and dripping Sebastian shows up at his door. Not wanting him to catch his death, Agni insists on closing the shop and bringing Sebastian upstairs to his apartment to dry off and warm up.

However, Sebastian back then was not accustomed to humans or how they lived and was baffled why Agni wanted him to shower and get wet *again*, which made Agni laugh and insist that he at least warm up and change while he makes some soup and tea.

And they ended up spending the day together, as friends, and from there, eventually lovers… but Agni has a chronic illness, something he’s had his whole life, and one day he’s hit with such severe pain they end up in the hospital. He’s OK for now, but the scare means he has an abdominal aortic aneurysm, which is basically a dilation/thinning/tearing of the walls of the abdominal aorta that takes blood from your heart to your lower body.

The doctors explain that they can’t say when or where, but it will burst and he will die, and all they can do is keep his blood pressure and heart rate under control, and his stress low, to try and extend his life as long as possible.

It’s an enormous blow, although Agni knew his heart would probably be what killed him eventually, he had hoped he’d have more time.

He tells Sebastian that he’ll accept the offer for the cafe he’d been considering… Bc he knew he’d have to retire soon; he already is struggling with the pain of standing for long periods, and waking early is becoming harder and harder as his fatigue grows worse and his pain interrupts his sleep. He’s trying to put on a brave face. He realizes he’ll have to find a new place to live, too, and wonders if maybe it’s time to move on.

To his shock, rather than suggesting they break up, Sebastian says he was planning to find a new place (he’d been living in a room he rented from a very sweet cat lady he did cat sitting for), and suggests they find somewhere they can live together… Eventually, Seb takes him to Japan, where he’s found a doctor who claims he can extend Agni’s life and give him better treatment.

The story is focused on their time in Japan, as Agni feels the ever present touch of death and his growing isolation from the world and his lover… and a mysterious figure, a neighbor named Tanaka, seems to be ready to help Agni, and yet….

What Agni does not know is that Sebastian is willing to give up his immortality, his very life, to save Agni, bc he lost the human he loved once, Ciel, many years ago. And he’s vowed he’d never let anything like that happen again.

So that’s the gist of the story!!! I hope someone is interested bc there’s a lot more going on ofc…. like the fact that Seb can dispel curses (and curse people too). It takes place during summer, so we’ll see Tanabata and Obon play roles in the story…

Agni is extremely tall with long limbs that give him a “freakish” look to many people, so he’s used to being stared at— but Sebastian is the first one who stared but seemingly with only a childlike curiosity and no judgment to malice…

And as a demon, Sebastian is used to being reviled and chased from place to place. Agni is one of the only ones who showed him genuine kindness in both his animal and human forms… and enabled him to experience a kind of love he had never known.

Who is Modri Vladis?

The mysterious character who claims to know Sebastian is calling himself "Modri Vladis" in the new chapter.

It's been suspected that this person could know Sebastian as a demon from once having a contract with him. The tattoo on his neck might be a remnant of a contract sign. However, Sebastian denies to remember him, even to Ciel who he cannot lie to.

But does that truly exclude the possibility of Modri Vladis being one of Sebastian's former contractors?

Modri Vladis seems to remember an encounter with Sebastian for one night which could imply that there had been a very short-timed contract that ended in Sebastian taking Vladis' soul.

Vladis is first shown being connected to an infusion stand so it's likely he's one of Undertaker's more advanced Bizarre Dolls who depends on regular blood transfusions. So if Vladis' body was okay after dying or having his soul being devoured, there is a chance that he could have been made into a Bizarre Doll.

Sebastian claims he doesn't remember him but that does not necessarily mean that they've never met. Maybe with his soul missing, Sebastian truly doesn't "remember" him (like he says). Maybe a contractor is really so insignificant to a demon that they simply forget them after the contract. A human is just a meal to them, especially if that contract only lasted for one night. Who remembers what they ate years ago? Or maybe Sebastian's current form only stores the memories of his current contract. (When Undertaker cut him with his death scythe, he only saw the memories of the time from the contract with Ciel, at least to our knowledge.)

There might also be another possibility. Maybe this idea is a bit far-fetched but bear with me for a bit. ;)

Bizarre Dolls are created by extending their Cinematic Record which stores their memories. Undertaker first started by adding fake records and later added the person's yearning for the future which evolved the Dolls. What if another evolution to this process is to add memories of another person to a Doll's Cinematic Record?

The hotel's manager mentioned the smoking room as a place to share stories of the past and the future, which struck me as a curious detail.

Maybe this hotel is not just a place to gather blood but to collect the memories (i.e. Cinematic Records) for Undertaker to use for his more advanced Bizarre Dolls. In that case, Modri Vladis might have a different body with just the memories of Vladis. And maybe that's why Sebastian doesn't remember him from his looks.

The reason I've been thinking this is the way that Vladis tries to make Sebastian remember him. He cuts into his wrist and draws his own blood.

It seems like a strange way to make someone remember him. It could be that Vladis' blood was involved in once summoning Sebastian (similar to how the cultists who captured the twins tried to summon a demon by killing children). However, I couldn't help but be reminded that when a shinigami cuts someone with their death scythe, their Cinematic Record is shown. So maybe Vladis was trying to make his memories with Sebastian visible through showing his Cinematic Record?

That didn't happen, though, the knife doesn't look like a death scythe and I'm not sure if someone who isn't a shinigami could even use a death scythe in that way.

Still, whether Vladis is fake or not, Vladis himself seems quite convinced to know Sebastian. And despite Sebastian not remembering him, it seems like he's not absolutely sure that they never met.

So I think it's still possible that there is a past connection between them and I'm really curious to learn more about that.
